Forget about USB 3.0. It ain't happening. Though in my heart of hearts, I would like this thing to have LightPeak! Integrated BluRay is overrated and you can just rip them to an external drive anyway. Could care less about a player. Would definitely like to see the Core i5 in the 13-inch, and (again, a dream) either dedicated graphics or something the equivalent of the 9400M. If the graphics chip is the one built into the i5, there will be disappointment all around.

I'll be back in SoCal briefly in February and I REALLY hope these new MBPs are released before/during this time, or else it's back to the UK emptyhanded (and without a US-formatted keyboard, which I prefer - worth the price of the plane ticket).

you can just buy online for the US formatted keyboard a lot cheaper than a plane ticket :D

This is a pretty big screw up on Intel's part. Whether it is true or not, Intel should have been more careful with releasing a promotion including unconfirmed specs of a MBP.

But that's just too easy! =P I guess seeing family counts for something too. Plus...there's the savings of about £200 by buying it in the US. By the way, I totally agree with you - if the new MBPs come out, I could give a flying rat's as* if the tablet is debuted at the same time! =D

Perhaps the media event is to herald this exciting development, not the tablet at all.

Thats what I was thinking ..its just MBPs and some other iPod revision or whatever, but no tablet.

EDIT: though I hope I'm wrong :)

That would not make sense if they didn't support Open CL, because an older Mc would be better for SL than a newer one. Maybe Apple could write OpenCL drivers for the Intel HD graphics? There was just a rumor about OSX finalizing openGL support, so maybe they are also in the process of making these intel graphics support openCL?

Use worst GPU in macbook pro than in macbook is also kind of wierd

aw well i bought a 15" 2.8 last friday. :(

then again i don't really care but it does kinda suck huh

Hope there's Core i7, even as an option…Core i5 only would be a large relative downgrade from current MBP CPUs.

EDIT: The MBP referenced may not be the high end, so I think there's a good chance that at least some models will have Core i7, even as standard. Still somewhat of a relative downgrade though.

wouldn't they use too much power?
Clarksfield Core i7 maybe, but not the Arrandale Core i7.

Yup. This is it. It's pretty obvious that the MBP's are getting Arrandales at this point. I say "ha!" to all the nay sayers. Are these Intel HD graphics as good as the 9400M?

Likely not. Have you seen the pinetrail netbooks vs the Ion netbooks? While the Pinetrail netbooks have a noticeably faster CPU, the integrated Intel graphics is SLOWWWWW, where the Ion netbooks use the older Atom CPU, but use what is basically a 9400 (the Ion) and it handles multimedia very very well, where the pinetrails choke to death on multimedia tasks.

I dread the integrated Intel video. If Intel has made terrible GPUs since day one, and their latest gpu in their netbooks is still horrible, what makes anyone think the new Arrandales will have some magically awesome GPU made by Intel?

Intel needs to continue making awesome CPUs, and leave the GPUs to companies that can actually make GPUs that do not completely suck at everything. Every single GPU Intel has made has been a complete embarrassment. The company can obviously make very very good CPUs, but they couldn't build a GPU to save their lives.

I'll take two please w/ non-glare screen please, but only if it has USB 3.0, otherwise I'll just wait it out.

New tablet, New Macbook Pro's new iPhone announcement??

Wowza!

I am highly doubtful on the new iPhone, the Tablet has been rumored to be getting announced this month since about this time last year, and the Macbook Pros are definitely going to need to be updated now that there are mobile Core i5/i7 CPUs out there replacing the old Core 2 Duo processors.

B.S. Apple stock would get destroyed and people would start to wonder out loud of Apple is done as the de facto consumer gadget leader. There has been way too much hype on the tablet by people too in the loop. Apple wouldn't let it get this out of hand if they didn't have something wow. Someone from Apple would have come out and and torpedoed tablets like they did netbooks. Instead we get credible tidbits from the WSJ who has an excellent track record in this area.

I can picture it now: Apple laptop event on January 27th with a "One more thing..." tablet announcement.

*sigh*

Can women have wet dreams?

To all those wishing for USB 3.0
It won't happen. Theres no need for it, and considering Intel have delayed USB 3.0 chipsets till 2011 i doubt you'll see any in a macbook untill next year. (that is if Apple decide to go down the intel chipset route unlike the nvidia chipsets last year.)

IF like i suspect they are going to do a ATI / Intel Partnership then it means new USB/Firewire/SATA controller/Networking chipsets. I suspect it would be a Intel Chipset with ATI graphics, which would definitely rule out a USB 3.0 port.

Downside to this is it means same old 3Gb's limit on SATA Controller. (As SSD's are being bottlenecked by this 3Gb's limit already)

Quote from the new Chipsets
"Intel also adds its management engine, enabling the protected audio/video path needed for Blu-ray video playback and high-def audio bitstreaming via integrated graphics."

Though i doubt we'd see Blu-Ray drive added... But the supports nice.

I find this hilarious given this statement at CES (from the post on the announcement on the chips).

The PC laptops with i3/i5/i7 use the new ATI videocards (ATI 5xxx), so why won't Apple??
