I don't think you've ever used a touchscreen display before. They don't need to constantly be adjusted because they get pushed back, and the difference from having to move your eyes and hands off of the keyboard to locate the touchbar vs a touch screen is going to be negligible. No, the touchbar is a keyboard that can change its keys, but instead of a mechanical keyboard they went with a touch keyboard. It's horrible for ergonomics and touch typing. it's good for my wife who watches Netflix, but then it belongs on their MacBook Consumer, not MacBook Pro.
You say, having never actually used it. How do you know it's horrible before trying it out?

Going into it with pre-formed opinions is going to affect you as well - if you expect it to be horrible, odds are you'll think that coming out. Some people just don't want to wait and give it a fair shake before passing judgement. It has all the potential to be amazing.

My wife who is not a gadget freak and just glanced over my screen to see the event said - that bar is placed wrong and you will be tired stretching your hands like that. The correct placement would have been below the space bar so that you can use it with the trackpad.

I was stunned how simple her observation was and she just went back to reading her book.

Wow did not think of that but totally agree..however her reasoning is not entirely accurate.. how big do you think the keyboard is? with my hands placed across the keyboard I have full access to the function keys without stretching my hand in any capacity, the touch bar won't be any different.

€3199 in Belgium? Apple, you can **** right off! It's totally ridiculous - € is 1.09 to the $, the face price should be cheaper (and yes, I realise the sales taxes aren't show on the US prices, but they aren't that much).

Funnily enough, my "Late 2013" 15" 2.3 16GB still runs like it's new, think I'll just stick with that.

My son needs a new iMac, where are they? I'd even be prepared to invest in a Mac Pro for him, if it had a decent graphics card.

Hopeless.

I would gladly trade the oled touch bar for retaining some "standard" connectivity. I was under the impression a "pro" model would be designed as a more versatile platform. In saying that, I suppose I am no longer the intended buyer that Apple has targeted for the new macbook.

It has 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports, so is much more versatile than the base MacBook. There are USB-C to Ethernet, Lightning, VGA, and HDMI cables out there, so you only "need" adapters to connect to USB-A devices and Thunderbolt 2.

Too much of tom hanks?

This. Most people having a heart attack here could get by with a MacBook Air (or the non-touch bar version of the "13 pro) just fine.

For me, I know that for the next 4-5 years this new machine will be what I use to make money every day.

Apple keynotes used to be, 'Hell! Take my money!'

Now they are like, 'Er... I'm no pauper but, like, I just don't have the money... and if truth be told the product's a bit, y'know, so what?'

here in brazil the 15'' 2.7 base model costs USD 7500 ! seriously...i dunno what to think....rape !

Is that USD or BRL?

It sounds like BRL which makes the USD equivalent $2373. at the current exchange rate.

Base 15" in USA is $2399.

You all need to check your exchange rates.

WTF!!! 4 thunderbolds and no USB, how to charge you 6/6s and older iPhones on this crap? how to connect mouse? how to connect HD discs? ooo wow they left hadphone Jack (isn't to oldfashioned now?)!!!! that's awesome!!! and a touchstrip!!! Even specs looks worse than the older MacPros: 2.9Ghz with boost to 3.3Ghz L3 4MB, when my old MacPro has 2.6Ghz with 3.8Ghz boost L3 6MB (boost is needed for some PRO tasks). Graphics cards are also not a Pro cards, no CUDA support and Iris which is not serious!!! Where is the logic? What the hell is going on????

OMG! those UK prices. I love Apple but they are ridiculous.

Every model is £500-£700 more expensive than previously. £2699/$3285 base price for the top spec 15" model and £4049/$4929 for a fully kitted out model.

Need to answer with your wallets and not buy these notebooks so they realise customers aren't mugs. Seriously hoping they sell the way of the Newton.

God forbid what the upcoming iMac and Mac Pro prices will be when they are eventually refreshed.

Also their new website design is s**t. Too many clicks just to get to the purchase screen and the rolling images are just annoying.

I'm well off enough to afford one of these, and I was really excited to upgrade, but it's about $1,000 for the version I want than I was expecting to pay. I know Apple's market demographic is for the more affluent, but there's only so many affluent people that can drop $3,000.

Not at those prices. The touch bar is just a very (very) small touch screen. Other companies had been selling full sized touch screens on their PCs for ages. I'm pretty sure I prefer the full sized version. This is the Apple's "you don't two mouse buttons" re-written for the 21st century.

So you're complaining about the price, but then saying it should have a touch screen too? Also, did PC manufacturers ever use their superior large touch screens for that type of functionality? Nope. It's just something to check off on a spec sheet…"Hey, it's got a touch screen. Who knows what to use it for, but hey…it has a touch screen!"

No 32 GB of RAM? No MagSafe? No reasonably priced 1TB SSD? And why in the world is the Apple no longer glowing?

Nah thanks Apple, I'll stay with my 2010 MBP for a little bit longer - even though I wanted to upgrade this year. This is not an upgrade, it's an enhanced 2012 MBP with a fancy LED strip above the keyboard.

LOL at all the people trying to act like the touch bar isn't anything special. Looks like a huge functionality improvement for using a notebook, and they specifically showed how versatile it is for high-level pro software. Nothing like it exists in the notebook marketplace currently.

Sure nothing like that exists but does it justify the price? What if they offered the high powered notebooks with variants with the normal function keys. If people still end up buying the one with touch bar then good on them. Such high prices for a touch bar is plain silly plus ergonomically it's in the wrong place. They placed it there because that is where the function keys were. Real courage would have been to rethink everything.

Man, I could stomach the idea of them silently replacing the Mac Pro with the MacBook Pro (price wise and the Radeon Pro), but no 32GB is a serious bummer. For that price, I'm expecting premium! Read: slightly overspeced for my use cases.

So what are the chances of them doing a good old fashioned silent upgrade next year to a 32GB config?
I think it's extremely likely, but considering the contents of this event, I'm betting it won't be silent. They'll throw an hour long party to tell us they're increasing the max RAM.

In the pre-Tim Cook era, Apple was known to under-promise and over-deliver. I think many were expecting to see just one presentation where that happens again. This wasn't it unfortunately.

In the pre-Tim Cook era Apple put state of the art internals in its computers. I love how proud Steve was when he introduced the iBook. The fastest GPU, the first consumer laptop with WIFI, the best Apple could build. Just watch the keynote.

Now the Macs in the Tim era are, well, obsessed with thinness, not user upgradable meaning they end up in landfills earlier than the Steve era computers, are crippled, have outdated internals and are way to expensive.

Compare it to the Surface Book - MBP is cheaper, but doesn't have the dedicated graphics board.

Yes and the MBP doesn't have touch screen, which I would love to have, however the Surface doesn't run OSX and therefore it won't run xCode for propper iOS development. This is one of the reasons why I'm part of the Apple crowd.

It is kind of a sad game trying to figure out how much $$ it would cost me to match the ports my 2015 Retina MBP has.

2015 MBP Retina
  1. Mag-Safe Adapter
  2. 2X Thunderbolt 2 ports
  3. SD Card Slot
  4. 2x USB 3 Ports
Adapters needed to Match the 2015 MBP ports (using Apple as my source ignoring Amazon and other options)
  1. $69 USB-C Digital AV Multiport adapter (Gives me HDMI and a USB port back, and allows me to charge using the USB-C power adapter. Does not support 60hz on external displays over 1080p so this adapter is limited in this regard.
  2. $19 USB-C to USB adapter (Brings back the 2nd USB port)
  3. $49 X2 Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter
$186 And I am out of ports without even resolving the need for an SD card slot.

Now I am not fully obtuse, as there are many other ways to skin this cat, some less expensive, some more expensive. I am also aware that the 4X Thunderbolt 3 ports provide far higher amounts of IO than the 2x Thunderbolt 2 + 2x USB ports of my older laptop, however, I would argue that many people primarily worry about resuming life with their existing peripherals, on their new devices.

Thankfully there are places like Amazon that provide some more solutions, but, they are relatively expensive as well. some of those options would also require users to daisy chain all kinds of accessories together, or, buy expensive "docking stations" to provide their desired connectivity.

IMO throwing in a USB-C Digital AV Multiport adapter with every new MBP purchase would have been a nice gesture.
