Seriously, I am still in disbelief that the high end 15in laptop has only four measily ports. Ports that not only have to be used for power but USB-C (TB3) that aren't even widely used yet. Not only are the prices stupidly high but we will need to factor in adapters or an expensive docking station into the price (whenever they become available of course). Apple, WTF were you thinking???

Mostly happy with this. Was hoping for a 17", but that was a long shot anyways. Wish They had more than 16Gb of RAM, and the storage upgrade was cheaper.

Ordered my 2.9 GHz 15" Slate Grey with a 1Tb HD and 460 graphics. Can't wait til it gets here.

I don't know what to do. I used to get a new MacBook Pro on every release, top of the line, just because I could, not because I needed it. But then times changed and I couldn't do that anymore. I have MacBook Pro Late-2011 i7 2.5gz, mother board has been replaced 2 times, because the thing overheats and the graphics go south. One time replaced for free. I have a MacBook Pro 2010 model, the same issue and its having the same issues again. 16GB (while perhaps not officially supported) and an OWC 512GB SSD drive in it. I'm not a huge mobile user, but have Thunderbolt display hooked up to it. I have another apple display (non-thunderbolt) that works on the 2010 MacBook Pro.

5 years OLD and 6 years OLD. I can't do the copy/paste app switching between my iPhone and Mac, because its too old.

The Touch Bar is cool, but again, I rarely use my MacBook Pro keyboard, so I would have to change the way I work if I wanted to get any use from it, but I may never need it to use it short of the occasional Function key use or turning up/down sound.

I only have 50GB of space available on my HD, so can't imagine going to less. I already use external drives to store my photos and videos and less used items on. The whole iCloud storage thing doesn't give me warm and fuzzies. I use CrashPlan to store my data offsite in case of tornado, fire or complete theft.

This new MacBook Pro *might* have a CPU twice as fast as my current one based on Geekbench ratings, but I some how doubt that. My AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB leaves much to be desired. Glad they got away from the graphics switching stuff, what a nightmare that has been for my two MacBook Pros.

I might actually be able to afford getting a new computer in January and on one hand, I'm excited for something new, but on the other hand... I don't have a single device that uses USB-C/Thunderbolt 3. Adapters and/or New Cables, adds to the upgrade cost.

Maybe I should go iMac route, and just keep my old computer as the occasional mobile. It has a new battery and motherboard in it. UGH.

16GB max..... ahahahahahahahah my old 17" from 2011 has that amount of Ram!!!! WTF!
no new displays to match the line.... oh well, they are the best yet the so much worst in every way....
i'm a devoted mac user but here's the point these days: i wish apple a cold shower.

I know. My 2011 too... and a super-fast 1TB SSD. I NEVER use to keep my main laptop for 5+ years until Apple went mad and started giving so little for so much.

Ah i see. Play the blame game, ignore experts, reality etc. Retailers are trying to force the lowest prices they can but its not sustainable and only damages business in the UK. Every price increase will hurt much more.

Wait till you see the 2017 model pricing. 2018 will be worse and so on. The pound falling should be the lesser of your concerns.

Rubbish it's called greed!

Sure nothing like that exists but does it justify the price? What if they offered the high powered notebooks with variants with the normal function keys. If people still end up buying the one with touch bar then good on them. Such high prices for a touch bar is plain silly plus ergonomically it's in the wrong place. They placed it there because that is where the function keys were. Real courage would have been to rethink everything.

Did you watch the presentation? The performance of the 2016 MBP is significantly better than the 2015, and it's targeted at professionals. I don't remember so many people complaining about price in the Surface Studio thread for hardware that was $3,000 to $4,000 and was targeting a much narrower range of pro user.

Wow did not think of that but totally agree..however her reasoning is not entirely accurate.. how big do you think the keyboard is? with my hands placed across the keyboard I have full access to the function keys without stretching my hand in any capacity, the touch bar won't be any different.

See but you are thinking about function keys and all the focus of the touch bar was to move away from those keys which means that the touch bar didn't need to be in the place of those function keys. They could have those function keys and still have the touch bar just below the space bar. There is no need for a big trackpad without pencil compatibility. Apple made people believe that touch bar had no other space to occupy on the entire key board. Imagine the photoshop demo. If the touch bar was closer to the trackpad, it would have been a one handed demo. Thoughts?

OK lets compare prices.

Microsoft Surface Pro in Australia with i5, 8g and 256 is $2949 AU
13" MacBook Pro in Australia i5, 8g 256, $2699. AU

Hmmm...

For those saying Apple is over priced compared to Windows of comparable specs., well guess again!

Over 8 years ago my wife bought me a 'maxed out' (still only came with 4Gb memory) MBP from Apple, cost out the door....$3000! I was super stoked to have it while at the same time silently thinking 'Geezuz, she paid what?!', that was way back then, now that same $3000 can buy a MBP that's light years more advanced.

I don't think anyone was defending the Surfaces pricing..

No General they were comparing Apple prices to lesser machines and forgot to mention the comparable high-end stuff from the name manufactures.

I spent around $1500+ for the small Sony windows PCG-505 machine more than a decade ago and that didn'tinclude a dock to allow me to plug in my external devices. It had a 10+" diplay and was amazing light for travel use, but these days my eyes need something a bit better.

Yes sir I watched the presentation and have followed all the performance changes in the last decade. None of these performance improvements in the past have had such a big jump. If the performance jump was so significant then why spend 3 mins comparing this version with something that is 25 years old and spend 20 seconds comparing with the last year's model.

I cannot comment on the surface. Didn't see that presentation and not following Microsoft. Maybe I should.

Wow....
Just noticed they have also increased prices across the whole site.
A macbook 12" Retina 8GB / 256GB is £1049 on John Lewis right now, but £1249 on Apple.com
similar for other models.

So basically if you are wanting to buy an older mac, buy it quick from a non apple website otherwise you will be stiffed with a 20% price hike!!!

When you customize the touch bar, you drag and drop from the main screen into the touch bar. It's also in the standard position where the function keys were before, so if you think Apple got it wrong…then that's true of every PC vendor on earth for decades. Also, think about typing. Your hands resting on the touch bar?

This is pathetic. No Mac Pro, Mac Mini, iMac updates? Hey, if you don't care for them anymore. Discontinue them. Selling 5 year old tech for the same price as 5 years ago is a sham. Damn you Apple!

It seems they are pushing back that release as they are not ready yet. This was MacBook Pro's Show.

Absof*******inglutely! this is a no buy for me. end of the story. hope lots of potential buyers will do the same, especially my UK friends who i sadly welcome to the Huge Apple rip off that's been going on for years in France and other european countries.... take at least 400 euros off and i'll think about it.
the macbook mid range 13" 256GB 2,9GHZ with the touchbar should be price 1450 euros at the most (not 1999!!!!). they would sell like hot buns. there's been a huge price hike in europe yeras ago when the euro fell, but now it just too much.

and always the same mistakes: magsafe is gone, thousands of pricey adaptors needed. macbook has only one USBC. typical apple first gen mistakes.
hope my 17" i7 will last more years to come with its new motherboard: it' big and heavy but has not so much to envy comparing to those new macbook pros, and especially because of those outrageous prices.

I swore on the screen during the presentation it said it "started at 16GB of ram", not maxed out at 16GB of ram. The starting at was applicable to only the other things.

It was the only way to add storage (for things like iTunes libraries) without spending big bucks on proprietary SSD.
Also, it's not the $15 adapter cost I mind, it's the fact that I need AN ADAPTER!!

Apple expects you to move to the cloud like all music services have. No need for a huge iTunes library.

Apple fails to distinguish between Concept, Ethusiast and Professional devices. This will be a great devices in... like 3 years. For today... fail.
The MacBook and now the Pro are "Concepts". A professional device, however, comes with todays interfaces and those of the future. Should have left the SD Slot in... and 2 USB 3 Ports. Anyway, I'm OK with concepts, but for that we are missing the 4K screen. Why 4K? Because FHD will display pixel accurate. Also, I'd like a dual port eGPU... 80Gbit/s should be enough for a decent GPU like a 970. These days Apple is only "ahead" where it cripples the user experience. In the next 3 years the customer will have no advantage of USB-C in 99% of the situations, but in fact be relying on adapters in standard situations (connect that printer or USB Stick). Should have used USB-C for the iPhone 7 already as well if they want to go all in on USB-C. Now people are buying Lighting Headphones. But they can be used with an adapter on USB-C... ;P

At this point (looking at that price-tag) I can only recommend Dell Latitude E5xxx series Laptops. My E5550 fits perfectly in stuff designed for MBPr15 (e.g. sleeves). I've a fingerprint reader, NFC pad, SmartCard slot, SD-slot and even 4G/LTE for 1400 bucks. Mics, sound-system, keyboard (incl. backlight) is as good as on my old MBPr. Screen is only FHD, but also a good quality IPS. Native HDMI, 3x USB3, RJ45 and a num-pad as well. And there's a cheap dockingstation for it that actually deserves the name. The whole setup incl. external screens is less than 2000 bucks. If I desperately need a Mac on the go add a MacBook for 1000 bucks. If you think it's wise to spend 2000++ just on a MBP just for "profesional" apps: Better not count on Apples support... they already discontinued Aperture. Without a real Mac Pro the profesional community is dying a slow death and so will the sales of the professional software -and ultimate share the same fate as Aperture.
