I can cope with a notch on the phone but I’m sorry I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER have one on my laptop

those will be my dying words.

Agreed, the biggest shortcoming for me is no Windows support. I only have an MBP for the ability to play games, which basically requires Windows support.
Microsoft being anti-competitive. coalition for fairness on Windows ARM!

They made the MacBook Pro again. Crazy to think people would actually use ports and be happy about MagSave.
Apple Fanboys claiming different making confused noises at the moment.

Some really amazing upgrades and I understand a lot of it is probably lost on my workflow but damn…..

these are some pricey laptops, quite a bit more than their predecessors.

European prices are a little crazy. 16-inch starts at € 2.749.
UK Pricing is worse, but that's what happens when Apple list the US pricing, as it excludes tax! I am living in the UK for a few months, and was going to purchase one, but sadly 1. As I would be paying with Australian card, online Apple UK doesn't accept non EU billing addresses (other than US) and 2. The price of the model I want, is AUD$1000 more after exchange, and add another 2% for bank charges.
I'll stick with my 13inch MBP 2.3 i7 4TG 32GB RAM for now.
Whilst I like the addition of the ports, the keyboard area looks bland, not life to it, other that keys. The Touch Bar adds life, colour.

Ordered base model 14" MacBook Pro 16GB/512GB and 3rd Gen AirPods. Should go nicely with my iPhone 13 Pro.

I can't remember the last time I dropped this much money on Apple products in the space of a few weeks.

The second I saw Promotion I was itching to buy. I didn't think they were going to include it.

Looks like the base model prices are the same as what I paid for my Intel 16" a couple of years ago.

The new M1 is a good machine, I'd be up for one if I didn't have the Intel, but I'm still happy with that for my uses.

the fact that base 14 inch has *only* 8 cpu cores and 14 gpu cores 🤡
For $2000 starting price, I was expecting a non-gimped CPU. Kinda greedy on their part honestly.

Especially if 2 of the big cores are disabled, that would be a 6 + 2 CPU, significantly less power than an 8 + 2.

They want an additional $300 to get to the real spec of 10 core CPU and 16 core GPU. Ridiculous.

But that's the thing. It's very distracting. Just look at the real images where Apple hasn't tried to hide it with wallpapers or full screen. It's a big black splotch right in the middle of the menu bar.
Thank all those that wanted a better video camera for camping! Personally, if you want a great camera, do what those on YouTube do when vlogging live, buy a quality independent one. Even the one they are using isn't going to be that great. On the cheap, you can buy some lighting when at home, or any of the new Logitechs, that are truly amazing.

Looks amazing. If people only manage to focus on the notch I feel sorry for them
Apple heard and gave back what people was asking for "Pro" computers and that they ditched years ago: no more "let's make it thinner" that compromises functionality and thermal design, more ports (HDMI and SD card included), better screen, no more touchbar and back to physical buttons... Yet people always find something to complain about

16" M1 Max starting at $3,500. Yikes.
Would you care to share a cheaper PC with equivalent features?

CPU/GPU Performance faster for common tasks than a 28 core Xeon and workstation GPU, cool operation, 400GB/s RAM, 64GB GPU memory, 7.2GB/s SSD, 254dpi display with 120Hz, local dimming up to 1600 nits and P4 colour reproduction.

Oh, and all of that with a battery that lasts up to 21 hours in a thin/light enclosure.

If it's too much money, there is are two cheaper laptops available from Apple. If you (or your employer) can afford it, this is great value for money.

I was going to wait and see how things panned out for initial folks prior to ordering... but then after seeing the beast I realized I'm buying it at some point so why wait... but DANG did maxing out everything hurt the wallet! (though only went to 4TB... drew the line there)

I don't understand why? The menu bar is taller than it currently is on my Mac mini with M1 running macOS Monterey and my older MacBook Pro 13-inch with Touch Bar running macOS Monterey. Why would they make the menu bar extended lower than the camera cutout? Looks horrible. I didn't really like how the menu bar was taller/deeper to begin with but I figured it made sense so it would indeed be flush with the camera cutout. But making it go even lower? Why?
Likely to keep it hidden for those that use the "more space" resolution option.

Interesting view point, I think they have just pandered to the fan boi, the system architecture is truly amazing, but bringing back MagSafe and a 1080p camera; no doubt due to the incessant whinging, isn't innovation. A laptop is a laptop, it's meant to be on the move, if it's being charged, it should be safely put on a desk. A built in laptop camera is the same, it's for using out and about, if your home, get something appropriate.

I'll wait for the new MBA. Probably looking at $1299 for a nicely equipped version of that next year since they're still touting the 13" MBP at $1299. The base M2 MBA will be a little cheaper and then they'll throw the M2 in the 13" MBP too.
Yeah, same. This computer looks amazing but it's probably overkill for me. My M1 MBA will probably serve me just fine for years to come, so I'm hoping to see a lot of these improvements trickle their way down to the entry-level MacBooks. I'm especially curious to see what improvements will come to the cheaper MBP next year.

For a professional music producer often running +150 tracks in Logic Pro, is it necessary to go for the (ridiculously expensive) M1 Max 16"??
Indecisive whether to go for a M1 Pro 14" with 32GB memory or a fully specced M1 Max 16" with 64GB.

EDIT: Apparently we do get M1 Max with the 14" if you just spec it.

Professional music production should have no need for the additional GPU performance? The 10-core Apple M1 Pro with 14-core GPU should be your sweetspot to be honest. The Max is mostly about being able to go for 64GB of Unified Memory, having additional high-resolution display connected at once and the additional graphics performance.

Unless one is doing some heavy graphics work like rendering and editing a ton of 4K and 8K ProRes the pinnacle choice would pretty much be Apple M1 Pro 10-core with 14-core GPU and 32GB of Unified RAM.
