So Macrumors, are you going to FINALLY stop using Prosser as a source? This joker has been wrong with every single one of his last few "predictions" it's sad.

What's even sadder is that you continually give "No Brows" Prosser page clicks
Think I’ll use his predictions and go with the opposite from now on. Like the George Costanza doing the opposite bit

Maybe he was thinking they would announce it with a later release date and not ship immediately, and that he was confident they are positioned to announce, but just decided not to.

Regardless, it is good to see that Apple is willing to admit that many of the "innovations" they have announced during Tim Cook's tenure were poorly executed and had a lack of foresight - Apple Maps, the trash can Mac Pro, the touch bar, the butterfly keyboard, holding down the space bar to select text on iPhone, plenty more examples.

Tim Cook should probably be nicknamed "The Weatherman"

Why do people listen to that guy and these other so called "analysts" or leakers? Its a given that there will be new mac books coming eventually. Only Apple knows the timelines.
These leakers/analysts just are racking up clicks/views and making $$$ from people believing their information.

I just don‘t understand the „hate“ towards one news source or the other, especially Prosser.

These guys are no oracles or something like that. They just pass on what infos they get from their sources. Whoever doesn’t take it with a grain of salt, it’s their fault, really…

Prosser has been right in a lot of instances I remember, especially with regard to final designs (iMacs, AirPods Max, AirTags, just to name a few), so obviously he does have some credible sources…

But particularly release dates are another businesse, they can be delayed and postponed at any time, so a “leak” that ist technically correct today, can turn false tomorrow, when Apple changes plans…

So yeah, why not stop the hate and enjoy the hype?

Q3 makes sense, especially September. A15 and M2 together.

Apple has finally unified the silicon development for both iPhone and Mac. The end result has always been a unified experience. What better way to do that than launch both products together.
They can launch both products together but people are broke nowadays.

At this point, I'd almost rather wait until the next architecture change based on the A15 for better single-thread performance. Hopefully, that could be ready by October. Maybe there won't be an M1X …
Agreed. But... it's probably going to be M1X. Here's to hoping you're right though.

Right? Though who knows how long it'll take for Apple to get that out there. It's unclear if they'll have a Xeon-like release cycle, or more coordinated.

Yeah but it’s also strange to put 2 fans in the new iMac design if they weren’t planning to allow M2 configurations soon. That’s 1.5 more fans than the M1 needs.
I’ve heard that putting the lower end single-fan iMacs under hard load can cause them to spin up enough that one wonders if they shouldn’t have put two fans in the whole lineup, and suggests that they need somewhat more that your suggested half-fan.

My guess is a September launch. The new MacBook Pros will launch with Monterey, and perhaps be announced with the iPhone 13.
I am telling you, Apple wants a piece of that back-to-school market...they will AT LEAST launch the 14-inch MacBook Pro before the Back-To-School season is in full swing...especially now that COVID-19 cases in the US are coming back down and most states are reopening schools to close to 100%.

I’m thinking a July release if we’re lucky. Pretty sure it was delayed because of the miniLED display components. I was bummed yesterday but miniLED is worth the wait.
If it didn’t happen at the WWDC keynote, it’ll be September/October, as usual. Why expect Apple to rush things out, off their normal schedule, at a time when part shortages are a thing? It satisfies fan boy desires but that’s about it. And don’t get me wrong I am eagerly awaiting a 16" M2-powered MBP too.

If anything, I’m a bit relieved they didn’t release the new larger MBP this week, because that makes it more likely that the one at the end of summer / beginning of fall will be “M2-based” vs a lesser “M1X-based” model now.

Unfortunately, I think you are right, that it will be M1-based, M1X, or whatever Apple decides to call it. It's just that if it's delayed for one to three more months, it will be odd that their professional machines will have the same single-threaded performance as the entry-level ones released 7-10 months prior.

That makes no sense. The guy has been right way more often than being wrong
Most of us don’t care if he’s right or wrong. We get it. All leakers hit and miss a lot of the time.

The reason we’re tickled by this is because he’s a pompous AH, so we enjoy seeing his credibility take a hit. Had he he been right, his ego would’ve ballooned even more and that’s the last thing this world needs. It’s nice to see him kept in check.

In retrospect, maybe it’s not a surprise they didn’t announce it yesterday. It would’ve been strange to release new iMacs with an M1 chip and then two weeks later announce the M1X chip.
why?
the m1-imacs are the entry-level imacs. remember back in intel-times? there've always been entry-models for the imac lineup and beefier, more expensive machines, which were expected (starting at a ~1.8k usd pricepoint).
