They've had that for years: it's called "WiFi" or "Bluetooth".

Meanwhile, my 17" MBP was easily dragged off the table by its MagSafe cable (it was due to a dog, who could be forgiven for tripping over the cable wrong) so its not going to be much use on a new ultra thin'n'light MacBook Air unless they make the magnet so weak that it also gets dislodged by a light breeze.

As for USB-C: what USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 really needs is a locking connector so that your 20 TB external hard drive array doesn't get disconnected mid-write because the cable gets yanked.

Contrive not to route cables where people are walking - its the only way to be sure.
I don't know, my Macbook was saved several times by the MagSafe. The removal of MagSafe would be quite bizarre. Especially since as far as I know Apple has patented it and refused to license the patent, after copying the idea themselves, showing typical Apple ethics and generosity of spirit.

Please don't get rid of the MagSafe, find something for the usb-c that I will end up tripping on and trashing my Mac.

Apple used to advertise safety aspect of MagSafe connector when it first introduced it. I guess now it saves a few cents profit margin to go with usb-c. Who cares if you trip on the cord and your mac crashes to the ground.

No USB-A ?! I am using that machine for work, are they kidding?

I use the USB Port to charge devices, connect my keyboard, our backup HDD etc.
What is wrong with Apple? Going to order the old model now, while it's still available

Wait and someone will sell his macbook pro for half the original price

I'm so ****ing tired of everything being "portable" and "mobile". I couldn't care less about a laptop in a recording studio. I want a new Pro desktop. Period.

I'll believe it when I see it, and let's not forget a new rMBP may get announced, but it could only ship several weeks later. Also, the other Macs are all in need of an update.

If rumors and pictures are accurate, all Apple did was add an OLED strip to the SAME OLD UNIBODY Macbook design that has been around for 8 years! In the meantime you can touch most PC laptop these days.

I mean the worst company for stealing Steve Jobs' MacBook design is Apple.

I think Tim Cook is very afraid to change the design away from something Steve Jobs approved. Even the iPhone 6SS (7) is based on OLD iPod Touch design aesthetics. All he did for the "new" Apple TV was double its height. ALL mac's haven't seen an industrial designer in 5+ years. The AirPods used 4 year old EarPods design with a longer shaft to hold the battery and bluetooth, and that is unforgivable because Apple bought Beats that makes headphones and speakers. The one new design that Tim Cook allowed on the market was the iPhone battery cover, and that was a horrible thing Steve Jobs would have been tearing new holes into people for designing.

Jony Ives cannot be happy at Apple, shaving mm of material off the inside of cases and redesigning circuit boards and figuring out how to put more glue into devices. It is laughable that he still goes on camera and says some of his best most profound work is coming, he is being held ransom by most likely a ridiculous paycheque and has pretty much given up and gone into early retirement.

I believe it when i see it. right now i'm just assuming it's never gonna happen.

Also love the macrumors videos but can you find someone who doesn't say 'Thee' throughout the video. It sounds like he's reading a script and is nauseating to listen to.

These are pro laptops. The point is usability and ergonomics, not design (at least not in the first place).

Besides performance, in what way have the MBPs been behind technological development in the past years? Or in a design sense?

And you are speaking as if Apple has already introduced the oled strip. They might not at all. In addition, you don't know what the new laptop will look like and what capabilities it has, so why are you so upset?

They will be thinner - yawn, all regularly used ports will be gone - boo, You will have to buy an accessory bag to carry all your newly required dongles - more money for Apple since dongles are cheap to make but expensive to buy.

So much for a "Pro" level laptop. Losing MagSafe, HDMI, and SDCard slots. I don't care about thinness in a Pro laptop. I value functionality way over thinness and portability. My Macbook Pro 2010 is the perfect size and weight. If you want to remove the ports that a lot of people use ALL THE TIME, then do that crap with the Macbook or the Air, not the Macbook Pro. That damn headphone jack better be there too or I'm roadtripping down to Cupertino.

I care about a thin laptop since I carry it everyday, I just want Thunderbolt 3 for eGPU power and USB-C compatibility for using my dock with all ports I need.

Hub USB C HDMI HooToo, Hub USB 3.0 Macbook a 3 Porte + Porta HDMI + Lettore SD Card + Porta USB C con PD (Power Delivery), Shuttle USB 3.1 Tipo C (Erogazione di Potenza per Caricatori USB Tipo C, Plug and Play, Rivestimento in Alluminio) - Grigio Siderale https://www.amazon.it/dp/B01KFNQ35C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_f4HbybEZSAJSY

Agreed. If you want thinness and lightness the most, then the MacBook is what the person is looking for. If someone wants the most power then the pro is the better choice.

Yes, but the MBP is still a laptop. It's a mobile computer, so weight and bulk matter. It should be lighter and thinner than the current model rMBP that are still pretty bulky.

If you want maximum power go desktop not mobile.

Who pays full price for any new Mac? Best Buy, B&H Photo, Adorama, etc, have discounts on Macs most all of the time, sometimes for a few hundred dollars off retail. I wouldn't pay full MSRP for a Mac on launch day much less when it's been over year since they've been updated and neither should anyone else.

No such places in Canada... Only choice we have here for the most part is buying a refurb, if you happen to get lucky to find one in a config that is adequate.

I completely agree. The current Pro laptops are a bit too thick and bulky. I'm hoping for a slimming down with minimal port loss.

I think the plan is to disrupt Microsoft event by taking over tech news with this release.
I don't see that, especially given that in all likelihood what MS is rolling out is just an AIO, where as Apple needs to roll out a lot more mac models.

i'm just getting so tired of Mac rumourmill. it's been going on now for over 6 months and still not a real peep out of Apple.

time to move on I guess

Thunderbolt is an interface. Its a list of commands and responses essentially, a language for hardware to use, implemented both in software and in a controller chip. It can be implemented on many types of ports, the physical port is mostly irrelevant. In the 1 and 2 iterations, it was implemented on the MiniDisplay port. In the 3 iteration, it is implemented on the USB-C port.

USB is both a port and an interface, designed together from the start. Same with DisplayPort. Thunderbolt is different in that it is just an interface.

So to be accurate: it is a USB-C port, which supports the Thunderbolt 3 interface.
- Correctamundo. Saying "Thunderbolt 3 port" conveys the same information and all the information that's needed. Saying "USB-C port" doesn't convey that we are talking about the Thunderbolt 3 interface, hence why it should be discouraged.
