Yes, but the MBP is still a laptop. It's a mobile computer, so weight and bulk matter. It should be lighter and thinner than the current model rMBP that are still pretty bulky.

If you want maximum power go desktop not mobile.

Or consumers could buy the laptop they really require, not want. Apple could build "Pro" laptops - a desktop replacement.

Thinner / lighter is not better - at the expense of functionality.

I'm sure for a lot of people buying a 13" MBP, a Macbook would do them just fine.

So With USB C, there is no way of connecting thunderbolt devices - there is no adapter?

- If you have purely USB-C (such as in the 12" rMB), no there isn't. But these new MacBook Pros are rumoured to have built-in Thunderbolt 3 ports (which use the same physical USB-C port but is a different interface), so you can connect all the Thunderbolt stuff you desire.

why can't it have both? Is it impossible or something?
2 USB C
2 USB 3
1 Magsafe
2 Thunderbolt
1 HDMI
1 SDcard

So it's both future proof and works well for the present. Why is this such a radical idea?

There are no adapters to connect TB 1 / 2 device to a TB3 port, right?

So, TB 1 and 2 devices cannot be used with TB3?

If rumors and pictures are accurate, all Apple did was add an OLED strip to the SAME OLD UNIBODY Macbook design that has been around for 8 years!

Any picture you have seen is a journalist mock-up rendering. Besides, the idea of the unibody design (which btw was heavily rehashed with the retina models) is great and there is not much to change about it.

In the meantime you can touch most PC laptop these days.

I am not the one to judge, but I don't think you should be touching your laptop

Apple's strategy - thinner == better. At all costs.

Being easily portable is "functionality" in a portable computer.

Apple have always been ahead of the industry on weight, bulkiness, fit and finish. The 1" thick G4 laptop was way ahead of the PCs at the time. They aren't going to all of a sudden start making laptops that are heavier and thicker. Probably not in grey plastic either.

MagSafe was fun while it lasted, but I'd much prefer having a standard port that can handle everything. Ideally, the battery life will be good enough that you don't have to have it constantly charging. Now Apple just needs to give up the lightning port on the iPhone.

- Those are a lot of redundant ports. If it has Thunderbolt 3, it also has USB-C. No need to have separate USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports.

- There definitely are. Thunderbolt 3 is of course backwards compatible with 1 and 2.
Here's one such adaptor: https://www.startech.com/Cables/thu...rbolt-3-usb-c-thunderbolt-adapter~TBT3TBTADAP

And then I would like to see a 12" MacBook, 14" MacBook and a 16" MacBook.
Actually, this would be slightly awesome. Imagine them only having one line of laptops, called Macbook. All with the same design, screen quality and keyboard (which would ensure I will never buy one, but that's ok)

12": as current – Core M processors
14": "proper" processors, 4xUSB-C
16": "proper" processors, 4xUSB-C, microSD, 1xUSB-A, HDMI

Easy to differentiate because of size.

It will never happen, of course, we'll get Macbook Air Plus Pro SE instead with screen sizes of 12", 13", 14", 15" and 16" and 1xUSB-C instead.

What makes you think they can't make a thinner MagSafe connector?

It's not just by thinness, it's also that USB C do everything : power, data, display, accessory, etc.

So having 4 usb C take less space than 4 usb C + Magsafe. ( or 3 usb + magsafe, but then you lose a bit of expandability.)

In general Apple hate redundancy, why a dedicated power port when you can do it all with usb c.

(dont get me wrong, I love magsafe, however, relying on usb c for power is defendable.)

Is there even such a thing as USB-C thumb drives? How much do they cost?

Are there TVs and external monitors that can be connected directly via USB-C? How much do they cost? Cameras?

Couldn't they at least keep at least one USB-A port so people can connect thumb drives and such without needing an adapter?

USB-A ports aren't even CLOSE to be being legacy technology. Pretty much every other system on the planet ships with them, and very few systems even have USB-C.

Apple seems to be obsessed with requiring dongles for everything.

HATE the shallow flat keyboards. Terrible. Terrible. They've created the most unrewarding soulless typing experience.

I have dreams about the ThinkPad buttery keyboards.

And everyone else loves them. Thanks for the worthless comment.

And it would kill you to use a card reader? Like...seriously? If you could trade this one slot for more battery life what EVERYONE who uses a MACBOOK (Pro) as it's supposed to be used (i.e. on the go) should want.
You could make that argument about literally any feature: "get rid of it for more battery life". Are you a professional photographer or videographer? No? Then you don't understand that having an SD card built in is a necessary pro feature, on a pro machine. If your livelihood depends on moving things off of SD cards in all kinds of environments, you're going to be a lot happier if you don't have some delicate little adapter sticking out of one of the ports at all times.

Wrong. "Everybody else" does not love them. Do some looking around these very forums and look at the multitude of posts about it, many of them with lots and lots of agreement. Did you see how the very post you're responding to already has 12 people who clicked "like" on it?

They're garbage to type on, and just because you drank the Kool Aid and think they're better becuase Apple's marketers told you so, that doesn't make it true.

Apple surely makes the best laptops and computers, but they always push form over function, the Mac Pro is a perfect example of this. Now they're stripping SD card slot, HDMI port, USB-A ports, and a MagSafe connection. So in order to seem cutting edge they're going to get rid of things people really need, there's no room for a legacy port apparently. I'm sure it'll be fine in 3 years when we upgrade all our peripherals, but then we would have already purchased a few dongles and dealt with the frustration of things just not being as easy as we'd like, I hope these rumors aren't true.

Can't wait to export my photos and transcribe video all day on one battery charge!

Clearly enough people love them to justify their continuous existence, it's as simple as that. I have no opinion personally, since it just works. My point was more geared towards the worthless crybaby comment which didn't help anything.
