I'm right with you there!!! I was finally able order my laptop in January and then I heard about the updates and i decided to wait. I look at this forum every single day to check for any updates and i am starting to get impatient I just wish they would set a date.

Our distributor...

Our distributor doesn't show anything yet.

They could show up a day or 2 before they are announced. Since they aren't showing up, yet, I'd think that the new ones aren't very close to being released, yet. :(

I also...

I also wouldn't think that Apple would announce new MacBook Pro systems so close after MacWorld. It doesn't make much sense to release new models so soon but Apple isn't known for having a history full of the best decisions...

My money would be on an announcement in early March or April...

What I'm waiting for is a G3 unlocked iphone (and the tooth fairy, santa claus, and Elvis).

I read about the 'Macbook 4,1' battery report. What does the Air show on that program?

Same here. I would love to have the redesigned case that would allow for more insides and higher end tech inside. Also, the few innovations that came with the MacBook, (magnetic latch, user accessible HDD, NOT the keyboard) and a few more FW ports on the side of the thing would be nice. I can do without all of that for a 17" that is a real performer though.

So, in essence you're saying that you really don't care about the keyboard, magnetic latch, whether it has firewire (or any other ports), whether the HDD is accessible, just as long as you can get a "fast 17"?? That doesn't make sense at all. You ask for specific ports and so on, yet claim they're unimportant. Either you need certain ports or you don't. Unless of course the puchase will only be about bragging rights, nothing else.

I guess the 17" would make a clean desk when closed.

Are you telling me the pre-release Steve Jobs personal butler I just received from Cupertino is, in fact, only a clone?

Get in here, Steve. We have to talk. What's this "Designed by Apple in California" tattoo here on your back all about?

Ah dude, you haven't seen all the rumor sites? There's supposed to be a new Steve Jobs coming out. He may even have multitouch!

Can't wait for the Penryn MBP although I'm thinking it might be better to wait it out a few more months for Montevina.

A few more months?

Uhm... don't you think Steve's Oompa Loompas have better things to do than work on boring old computers? They are SO yesterday.

While it's not been reported here, I hear the next time Steve pops out of the factory, he'll be dressed to the nines in an absolutely breathtaking turtleneck gown - having finally removed his own dongle to fully embrace the wireless world that is our future.

And if you don't like it - go try getting your work done in Vista. You can't, can you? No you can't. So ha. And pthbpflt to you!

When Her Steveness desires to release another of those archaic laptop thingies, then he'll release it. Until then, shut yer yaps.

Dearest Fanboys and Girls,

We have now arrived at the final chapter of Apple Computers, ie Apple, Inc. In the future, we will be concentrating all of our efforts on creating silly gadgets for the metrosexual crowd. I urge you not to continue down this path - but if you must insist on hindering our evolution...

Here's the same computer in the same case with some junk we took off the "cool" devices we've come up with lately - and yeah, we shoved in whatever processor Intel threw our way. Sorry for the wait - but we had to delay the announcement until we sold enough of the cool new gadget. Now move along - nothing to see here. Innovation lies elsewhere.

Ah... back to the ultracool world of hi-tech gadgets.

All heil Steve - Queen of All New Media.

I already have a pretty nice MBP (pre-Santa Rosa), but if they come out with a 2.8 GHz Penryn with 1,033 MHz FSB on the Macbook Pros, i just might eBay mine. That extra processing speed and bus, with the option to actually have 4 GB of ram, is too tempting.

I would prefer to wait for a case redesign with a better resolution LCD screen and an updated video card though ;)

I'm not sure about this next update, but the following one later this year is expected to be Montevina which I believe will have 1066MHz FSB. I imagine it would also have an updated graphics card (actually I hope this Penryn update has a newer graphics card) and I think several people are speculating the Montevina update could also be a case redesign.
As far as the 2.8 GHz, it would be cool if Apple had that to offer from the start, but if they add it at all, I bet it won't be until several months later like how the 2.6 GHz option was added a while later. It would be nice to see the screen get the LED update like the 15" too.

Keynote Pages Numbers Iweb

my computer took this opportunity to tell me that I need to update these iWork/iLife apps... is this a coincidence/old update or something new?

Iwork/life update

the updates that it's telling me to download are for compatibility with mac OSX ... sooo.. take that as you will.. but reading into it, I'm thinking that we are releasing an update to OSX
