True, but the Canada store seems to always be the last to be updated, remember when the air came out, we had the old home page for 2 days after.

But the US store says 24 hours as well.

I Knew It!!!

Here in Canada They've been giving discounts on MacBook Pros for a couple of weeks now!
At Futureshop and Best Buy. Thos are the only retail places I've seen the rebates....

I just got rid of everything PC at my place... Just gotta get a MacBook Pro now!

I hope this is a Quad, I saw an ad for a Quad laptop, also we need to separate the MacBook from the MacBook Pro and a quad processor would certainly do that.

Pro's on the go can use the extra cores.

You buy a computer when you need one or when the feature set is compelling enough to replace your old one. This constant "I must have the latest 10% performance gains so I can do my email and web browsing faster" is inane.

True. And as such I am not buying anything. But it's fun watching – I'd like them to come soon, just so my curiosity can be satsfied. The only thing that could get me to buy something else than my current would be a true ultraportable. But that one I have already kissed goodbye. Hell, I'll wait a little while and buy a thinkpad as an "extra", when I really want to spring for another one.
Until then, I will have to "make-do" with my 2.33 GHz/120GB/2GB Ram. And when that gets a little long in the tooth, I'll upgrade the RAM, and perhaps even go SSD (you can get a nifty SSD in an expresscard form factor).

Tuesday

I think the introduction of the new MBP lineup will be this coming Tuesday.

Most likely with a ATI 3650M card.

160, 200, 250 and 320GB Hard Drive options. 2GB RAM standard.

2.4 Ghz, 2.6Ghz and 2.8Ghz. Price points stay the same.

Looking to upgrade my 2Ghz MBP shortly thereafter.

A quick call to any Best Buy location can confirm or blast this rumor. Just call any Best Buy store, ask them if they can tell you if they have a product in stock, be sure to tell them you have SKU number (which according to the screen shots is "8703441", which is later than the Air's SKU which according to Best Buy.com is "8698894"). They will be able to tell you pretty much anything you see on those so called screen shots. Ask a few questions like the price and see what they say.

If the information matches these screen shots, its real, if it doesn't then it's not and this is just another DEAD rumor. This test is pretty conclusive.

Did you do it?

I would expect something like the ATI 3650M too.

But for me, the most important feature is BluRay support. Most other companies now have laptops at a similar pricepoint to the MacBook Pro with a BluRay drive and Apple needs to at least have it as an option, or fall behind. But this will of course mean including a HDCP chip with the graphics card.

No way Blu Ray arrives in the MBP before the Mac Pros.

I work at best buy, and the only discount is that it is on sale right now, which is infact and indication, because there is no mark up from apple to best buy meaning that apple dropped there cost

BTO = Estimated Ship: 3-5 business days

That is normal for the Canadian store. These things have to come from Thailand you know.

yes, but I looked up the SHIPPING weight on amazon and its 9.6lbs for one. either they cut the weight in half, or the thing comes with some extra goodies. hmm...
Interesting indeed.

It's worth noting that the old PowerBook boxes were almost as thick as this one appears to be as well and that Apple is changing it's packaging to be more environment friendly right now so all assumptions based on old packaging might be irrelevant.

In the end though it's a place-holder in the sales database of a store for a product the people in the store have never seen. It's also Best Buy after all, so the more likely scenario is that the details we are looking at are inaccurate in one or more places.

do you guys think that along with an update they would raise the standard ram in the top of the line 15 inch macbook pro.

I remember when the cheapest only came with 1 gig ram standard, but now it comes with two, so shouldn't apple sell the middle and top of the line 17 inch with 3 gigs of ram standard for the same price.

they released the intel macbook without a media event, so it is possible that they release a mbp case redesign without a media event. this would also make reasonable sense because then they could release a new macbook case in june/july, getting ready for for the back to school season.

3GB standard might be a bit odd; the reason you are seeing 3GB of RAM standard on some PC laptops now is more because they are still shipping with 32-bit Windows Vista, and can't take advantage of the full 4GB.

If Apple were to up the standard RAM (which I don't think they'd do), they might as well just go to 4GB standard, since it isn't an issue with Leopard.

I really think a major MBP case redesign would come with Montevina in the spring or summer; it seems like you would want to tie a major external change alongside a significant internal change as well, and a simple CPU update from Merom to Penryn wouldn't really fit the bill.

Well my reasoning was that if they bumped the entry level computer's ram but the price is the same, then the only thing differentiating that and the high end 15 inch, is faster processor and bigger vid card, seems like if they bump up the low end's ram, it should ripple troughout the lineup to eventhings out.

We come a long way

I been programing professionally since 1973, I remember my first commercial (work) computer was a mainframe IBM 360 model 20 (at school) that baby had 64 K of memory. Now we are talking about gigs 2 to 4 gigs on a laptop and 2 to 32 gigs in a desktop. Video cards today have a lot more memory than commercial computers had back then.

We come a long way and we want more and more.
I am all for progress and change. Bring it on.

You know what I just realized? We are all REALLY big Mac nerds. I mean, instead of doing productive work or spending time with loved ones we're putting posts on a hypothetical new MBP. lol.

To thow my 2 cents into this debate. Isn't a larger track pad+new keyboard+magnetic latch technically a case re-design? What do you guys want for a case redesign? lol I mean, if it gets any thinner, factory standard drives/parts WON'T fit in it? And if that happens, good luck getting top of the line drives/cards/memory for the MBP. As it is, the 15" model has to have a special optical drive made for it. Only the 17" will hold a standardized drive.

Thinness isn't really a big deal to me. I mean, for god sakes. i've been working on a POS Toshiba from like 2002! The damn thing is like 15lbs and almost 3 inches thick! The current MBP is like Star Trek tech compared to that thing.

I don't think there should be a rush to force the MBP to be any thinner than necessary. After all, look at the MBA. It's "supper thin" and it has a crappy, slow processor. If they made the MBP any thinner, it would compromise speed and its ability to do the job its designed for= PRO'S.

Also, I hope for a new graphics card. Why? Because, the NVIDIA 8600 really is a bit of a dated card. Also, if they don't offer a Blu Ray option, they should at least have the decency to add a card that has a HDCP chip in it so we can swap out the optical drive for Blu Ray whenever apple gets it ducks in a row. I mean, not to be a fan boy, buy Blu Ray is pretty much dominating the market. The format war will be won in short order. It's pretty safe to side with Blu Ray right now. Over the last couple of weeks i've heard OLD PEOPLE talk about getting Blu Ray. OLD PEOPLE! Most old people can barely operate a DVD player, yet they're getting on the Blu Ray bandwagon?

Cool! Cool, yet bizzare.

I don't think this is necessarily true based off of apple's recent history. When they went intel they specifically KEPT the old design so as not to confuse customers. When they released the Santa Rosa Macbook they KEPT the old design. The times the have changed the design recently were not coordinated with internal changes very much. iMac was a notable exception however...

Personally with the new MBP I see:
1. Penryn support - longer battery life, slightly increased performance
2. Multi-touch trackpad
3. Macbook Air keyboard
4. 17" LED
5. Magnetic latch
5. Possible SSD as option
6. Possible slight case redesign to match macbook air somewhat
7. Possible upgrade in graphics card IF there is a case redesign
8. Possible change in battery
9. Possibly something totally new and crazy none of us have ever heard of before but now that we know about it we can't live without one...

I been programing professionally since 1973, I remember my first commercial (work) computer was an IBM 360 model 20 (at school) that baby had 64 Megs of memory. Now we are talking about gigs 2 to 4 gigs on a laptop and 2 to 32 gigs in a desktop. Video cards today have a lot more memory than commercial computers had back then.

I didn't see this till after I posted my last post, but don't you mean 64 KILOBYTES? It was 1973 for gods sake. My first computer in 1991 has a 40 megabyte hard drive which was so sweet at the time I couldn't believe it. Of course I compressed it to get a whopping 80 megabytes from that sucker on day #1. It was purrrrrrrfect.

Bill Gates famously said something like 640 kilobytes of ram should be enough for any home computer if that's any indication that whatever we think now is probably completely wrong about the future of computing.
