That Macbook Pro with multi-touch, macbook air keyboard, and a NVIDIA®SLI™Dual GeForce®8700MGT in it, better arrive on tuesday!!![]()
I can confirm that this change has happened in the Norwegian store as well!!!
THEY'RE COMING!!!![]()
You buy a computer when you need one or when the feature set is compelling enough to replace your old one. This constant "I must have the latest 10% performance gains so I can do my email and web browsing faster" is inane.
A quick call to any Best Buy location can confirm or blast this rumor. Just call any Best Buy store, ask them if they can tell you if they have a product in stock, be sure to tell them you have SKU number (which according to the screen shots is "8703441", which is later than the Air's SKU which according to Best Buy.com is "8698894"). They will be able to tell you pretty much anything you see on those so called screen shots. Ask a few questions like the price and see what they say.
If the information matches these screen shots, its real, if it doesn't then it's not and this is just another DEAD rumor. This test is pretty conclusive.
I would expect something like the ATI 3650M too.
But for me, the most important feature is BluRay support. Most other companies now have laptops at a similar pricepoint to the MacBook Pro with a BluRay drive and Apple needs to at least have it as an option, or fall behind. But this will of course mean including a HDCP chip with the graphics card.
Here in Canada They've been giving discounts on MacBook Pros for a couple of weeks now!
At Futureshop and Best Buy. Thos are the only retail places I've seen the rebates....
I just got rid of everything PC at my place... Just gotta get a MacBook Pro now!
NoNo! We're talking about the BTO = Build To Order = Customised MBPs!Norwegian store says 24 hours now.. I'm guessing apple will announce the new MBP after valentines.. so, tuesday the 19th.
Interesting indeed.yes, but I looked up the SHIPPING weight on amazon and its 9.6lbs for one. either they cut the weight in half, or the thing comes with some extra goodies. hmm...
do you guys think that along with an update they would raise the standard ram in the top of the line 15 inch macbook pro.
I remember when the cheapest only came with 1 gig ram standard, but now it comes with two, so shouldn't apple sell the middle and top of the line 17 inch with 3 gigs of ram standard for the same price.
they released the intel macbook without a media event, so it is possible that they release a mbp case redesign without a media event. this would also make reasonable sense because then they could release a new macbook case in june/july, getting ready for for the back to school season.
3GB standard might be a bit odd; the reason you are seeing 3GB of RAM standard on some PC laptops now is more because they are still shipping with 32-bit Windows Vista, and can't take advantage of the full 4GB.
If Apple were to up the standard RAM (which I don't think they'd do), they might as well just go to 4GB standard, since it isn't an issue with Leopard.

I really think a major MBP case redesign would come with Montevina in the spring or summer; it seems like you would want to tie a major external change alongside a significant internal change as well, and a simple CPU update from Merom to Penryn wouldn't really fit the bill.
If I buy the new macbook pro, will there be 3rd party upgrades for bluray optical drives in the future?

I been programing professionally since 1973, I remember my first commercial (work) computer was an IBM 360 model 20 (at school) that baby had 64 Megs of memory. Now we are talking about gigs 2 to 4 gigs on a laptop and 2 to 32 gigs in a desktop. Video cards today have a lot more memory than commercial computers had back then.
