Scary.

I've been waiting for around 10 month without a computer for the new MacBook Pros to actually come out. And now I've no idea what to do - wait for Rev Bs? How long? Let alone all the complains and get the MBP? I'm in Italy, I don't know how much reliable will AppleCare be and if I get a defected machine how will they sort it out.. they're not very much understanding here, as it's not even an Apple Store. Any ideas?

Uh. God.

Buy one. You'll have to be unlucky to get one with a 'defect' because most of them will be perfect.

The biggest problem you could have is a slightly loose battery cover (which you can fix yourself) or slightly skewed keys (again which you can fix, check the forums).

There are no widespread serious issues with the new MBP's, buy with confidence. I bought a new MBP and it is flawless.

I've been checking the forums/MR since the day it started shipping. And threads like this one makes me overthink whether to buy now, or wait, or not to buy an Apple laptop at all.

I would advise you to buy one as on these forums you hear a lot about the small percentage of people who have problems. The majority with no issues tend to not post about it.

I bought this my 4th MBP fully aware of the threads in this forum & confident that I would get a flawless machine, but in case not Apple would not only fix the problem for free, they might even offer some freebies as compensation for my trouble. As expected, I received a flawless MBP.

Which model is more 'recommended' the 2.53Ghz BTO MBP? Or the 2.8? I've been planning to get the higher-end one. Also, which hard-drive?

I seriously am beginning to wonder how many MBPs have physical defects compared to how many of Apple's customers have mental defects like O.C.D.?

It's only natural that Apple's customers have obsessive compulsive disorder, since Steve, Jony and other executive at Apple apparently do. Every aspect of the machines are carefully thought out to the utmost. I really don't see Steve Jobs at his desk or house using a machine with slanted keys or washed out screen.

And by the way, I don't think you're required to use periods behind every letter in an acronym. Thus, instead of O.C.D., you can refer to it as 'OCD'. (I learned that from a friend of mine who works at N.A.S.A.) :D

If, in the unlikely event you do have some issue with the new machine, I've heard that the BTO's are a PITA to replace. You could get a 2.53, and put in your own ram and hard drive yourself. If, God forbid, you have an issue, you can quickly swap it out for another off the shelf.

+2,..... never , ever , get a BTO from Apple , they are very difficult to replace if you should have an issue .
Like the man said , get a base machine and put RAM & HD in yourself ...it's easy ...couple of screws and your done ,.....good luck :)
....also which machine you get depends very much on what you use it for ... think carefully and don't be pushed ( by marketing or forum looneys) to believe that you must have the highest CPU etc etc ....
Ask away & start a thread of your own , list what you use the machine for etc and the MacRumors massive will help , I'm sure .

I agree with iONic , but I would also give this advice , go to the store in person if you can , buy the machine and check it in store , that way if you have a problem , it can be sorted out there and then .
Oh , and don't get a built to order ...see above .
good luck.

LOL .... I tried a few machines in store and each one was damaged , period . no OCD ... I like my stuff to be nice and that's it , I care for the few possesions I have so they last longer , I don't expect to have dents and scratches out the box !.
OCD LOL
If you bought a car and it had a dent in the door or body work somewhere ...would you accept it ??? , I doubt it very much .

Yes... BTOs are a PITA ... and they might be more likely to have more defects. (Based on my experiences)

I'm now waiting for my 4th base 2.4 MBP

1st) Faulty Superdrive
2nd) Lots of backlight leak on bottom
3rd) Loose battery cover (I fixed that), crooked keys (Which I don't care) & even WORSE backlight issues. I can see those with the lights turned on. The bottom is the same but now there are streaks of light coming from the left too!

I called and am waiting for my 4th!

Apple CS is perfect but their QC SUCKS! I love(d) this company and always did. My products were perfect before. My Touch 2G had to be replaced once too.

I hate the complaining you HAVE WARRANTY take it back until you get one that works!
thats what happens with new products!:apple:

It's this kind of attitude that causes companys to not bother much about QC ...it shouldn't happen with a new product , just the same as it shouldn't happen with a second or third revision .
All the taking machines back and forth costs people time & money ...it's costly to the environment also...

No disrespect meant, but I don't think anyone gives a rats behind about the "environment" when it comes to them getting a good quality controlled machine. First and foremost on ANYONE'S mind is the money they've spent. If your concern is to limit your exchanges and keep a defect product in order to save the environment then you, as a consumer not only have issues but you are also the type of consumer that keeps Apple wealthy beyond means.

None taken , notice how I mentioned environment last in my comment? , ....almost as an afterthought !. I just thought of all the machines being shipped too and from Apple warehouses because of silly QC issues...

....adds a lot of smoke to the sky if you do the math.

Foremost on my mind though is the time I have to spend dealing with silly issues that in all fairness should be none existent , that is the main concern for me , certainly not money(I'm not rich btw) and certainly not a free iPod or whatever they give you as an appeasement for the hassle of returning a faulty machine , nothing can make up that time .

The environment is a concern to me and should be to EVERYONE! , that's why I went into an Apple store to pick up my machine ( whilst on other business in the area)then I could make sure I got a working machine without the waiting , hassle and of course without adding unnecessary smoke to the sky by returning the inevitable DOA from my home .

Unfortunately it didn't work out on this occasion , Apple had no working machines in stock that day !!

Apple must be paying massive $$$ to ship these hundreds of defects back and forth with expedited shipping from China to the States and everywhere else... I would think it would be to their advantage to cut these costs by getting it right the first time.

Who knows ? , must be costing them something , I agree

I wonder if Apple do actually pay anything though. It's the manufacturers problem not directly Apple's?
