I don't think the rumored 14" MBP will replace the current MBP with M1 but replace the upper end 13" MBP/Intel. I was originally waiting for the 16" MBP but decided to get the 13" M1 and am very happy with it. Runs VS Code just fine and will do all the other things I need as well.

The Mac mini, though, is something I'm looking for to replace my 2017 iMac. That'll have me set for years to come.

Hopefully, though, these announcements will be a bit more exciting than the iPhone announcements...
I don't know if they'll replace the current MBP immediately, but I think the 13" MacBook Pro size will be eventually discontinued and after that all MBPs will be at least 14". Perhaps something like this:

2020 - M1: 13" MacBook Air, 13" MacBook Pro, Mac mini, 24" iMac
2021 - M1X: 14" & 16" MacBook Pro, Mac mini (new design), 30" iMac (wishful thinking?). M1 models would continue to be sold.
2022 - M2: 13" MacBook Air, 14" MacBook Pro, Mac mini (new design), 24" iMac. Old M1 models discontinued.

Personally, I just want a Mac mini with more ports and a new design. I don't need an M1X. My friends and relatives want the 29/30" iMac though. Alternatively, I could get a 29/30" iMac and use my 30" Cinema HD Display as a second monitor and don't bother with a Mac mini at all. Right now I use a 2017 iMac beside a Mac Pro with that 30" Cinema Display, but Apple is offering me over CAD$900 to buy back my used iMac.

My mid-2014 MBP is feeling long in the tooth. While she still pumps, I’m ready to step into the freezer* - I mean, future.

* shout out to my fellow phans lurking in these forums.

Here we go.. madness as people sell off their old mbp in Anticipation , the dosser guy jumps on the prediction bandwagon, people lap it all up.

Only enthusiasts who follow news will be doing that. You forget we are the outliers, not the norm.

The average Apple customer doesn’t even know they shouldn’t buy the regular 16” these days. I have family friends asking all the time if they should, or the 4 port 13”. When I tell them the base Air is typically a better buy they think I’m insane.

Cannot get here soon enough but I am sure delivery windows will be very long after lunch. I am currently still using the first retina MacBook Pro from 2012 and I was waiting for a redesign to finally upgrade

People, you do realize these Macs are not gonna change anybody’s life. The pandemic will still rage on, Monterrey will likely come preloaded and buggy, requiring several .0 updates before the .1 arrives. Reviewers and early adopters will conclude it’s really a negligible performance upgrade over the first gen M1. Most of us will just buy it to continue posting and discussion on Macrumors about the larger iMac and M2 silicon.

The conclusion is, technology has plateaued. As seen with the woefully underwhelming iPhone 13. In fact, I think Apple has kinda bitten off more than they could chew with Apple silicon development and chip shortage just makes things worse.

If you were not desperate to get your current machine replaced, wait 6 months first.

Then again I did buy the M1 MacBook Pro out the gate.

What’s wrong with me??????

I get the fact that this website is named MacRumors, and after all "rumors" is a big part of the name, but come on MR, show some restraint with quoting these guessers and click-bait artists who have been consistently wrong over the past several events.

I think all of us with functioning grey matter can figure out that updates are due for Macs, and we can figure out that those updates will likely be incremental, and we can even figure out that they will soon be discovered to have many little, perhaps some big, flaws. We are talking about Apple here, the company that no longer innovates on the scale it once did. They are predictable. We don't need has been old hacks trying to tell us what we already can figure out on our own.

I’m predicting an announcement on Tuesday for the event on the following Tuesday, October 12.

Tim will open the show, but then I just want to see Johny, Fed, Joz, and Kevin — nobody else. Enough of the slick diversity promotion videos — just geek the f out.

Why do any of you listen to this guy? his record is awful.
Who's listening to him?
He's making a guess about something almost everyone thinks will happen, gurman or not, so thats what the chatter is really about. All this story did was ignite more chatter about what we already figured was obvious.

And as far as Gurman specifically, many here are saying what an inaccurate douche he is - so not sure where you got the idea people are 'listening' to him.
