I keep hearing “M1X” but I will be surprised if marketing uses that name. The M1 is a year old at this point. If an M2 is coming out next year in a MacBook Air then most people will think that M2 is better than M1X. It is best to use a different moniker for the pro chips. Maybe “P1”
iPad Air uses A14 while iPad Pro was on A12Z for 6 months.

Consumers buy what they need. If you want more ports, 14/16" mini LED, and 32/64GB memory, you have to buy MacBook Pro.

In the EU, the European Union, NOT Apple will be deciding how your Apple devices get charged. In the EU they are now requiring that virtually everything use the same charger. Further, they are banning chargers being included with devices. Their intention is to limit one charger to each person. Due to massive consumer demand, Apple is bringing back the magnetic charging connector on its new 2021 MacBook Pro. Therefore, they will make a separate MacBook Pro just for the European Union. As is now common with iPods (due to EU sound volume restrictions) you will see more customers from the European Union smuggling USA products into the EU. So be careful when purchasing Apple products, make sure you are NOT getting the European Union crippled versions.

source of "banning chargers being included with devices"?

Oh, definitely— will be like an iPhone 12 Pro Max order at 8:00AM Eastern 😊 Demand will be through the roof for these things if judging by all the forums I’ve participated in since before WWDC (when they were originally meant to be released).
We will never know for sure if it was to be announced at WWDC or some internal change occurred. There would be little point to announce these at WWDC and have it shipped in very limited order two weeks to a month out and also having to deal with “back to school” sales.

It has happened in the past but to a limited degree. I suspect Apple decided to confirm stock of components is available for assembly and shipment and other quality issues to wait a few months. Plus that leak of blueprints for the next MacBook Pro did not help but did confirm peoples wish list. Exciting times.

My thoughts these days are have a powerful desktop and very portable but reasonably powerful laptop. I also think this is what Apple always goes for, so I expect to see the following [these are my ‘made up’ predictions]:

1. Chassis is an iterative update. Squared off but recognisable still.
2. All day battery
3. Micro LED screen with reduced bezels
4. Reduced weight and thickness
5. TB4 ports only
6. Cooler running - super quiet.
7. 20% max improvement in speed over the current top end MBP [I9 5600m]
8. 14” + 16” both have same spec upgrades.

If 8 happens, I will get the 14 maxed, otherwise may sit this one out.

are hyped Apple products typically hard to purchase the moment they are released? (Ex. Like Coachella tickets where there is no guarantee you get tickets even if you try to purchase tickets as soon as they are available).

or do they have enough inventory where you will likely be able to purchase as long as you do so within the first day or so?

I’ve never cared to purchase an apple product the day it released so I’m not sure how previous hyped releases fared. My laptop is basically garbage at this point and I have been waiting on this laptop for months maybe even a year +.

if there‘s no SIM card/lte connectivity for the mbp I‘m switching to android/windows!! 😠

You may as well switch now because that’s not happening. Not sure why you feel the need to announce that, though. If I announced everything I didn’t want to buy and everything I would buy instead, it would get tedious fast.

If you buy the first day, typically you can get your product within a month.

I need this……

Using an iPad, even with a magic keyboard has been a pain in the ass over the last few months since my 2016 died.

You think it will have ProMotion or not? If not, would that effect your purchase (if you was/are getting one)
I don’t know, but I don’t care about ProMotion other than to save battery, I don’t see any difference between my iPhone 11 Pro Max and 13 pro max, or my ipad pro 12.9” and other ipads around the house, so promotion will have zero effect on my purchasing decision.

What *will* affect it is it’s a MacBook pro with appropriate screen size, the fastest laptop on the planet, with fantastic battery life, and it runs macos. It’s not like I can buy some other machine that has all those features but also has promotion instead.

I don't think the rumored 14" MBP will replace the current MBP with M1 but replace the upper end 13" MBP/Intel. I was originally waiting for the 16" MBP but decided to get the 13" M1 and am very happy with it. Runs VS Code just fine and will do all the other things I need as well.
Sounds like sour apples to me.

14 and 16 will be complete MBP replacements. Enjoy your 13" M1 MBP, it's a lovely stopgap device that has active cooling and a touch bar to differentiate it from the (honestly, more impressive $ for $) MBA.

I agree— we I’ll probably never know for sure but I am pretty certain that in a perfect, non supply chain issue-plagued world, they were intended for launch at WWDC— however we don’t live in that world :(

yea, cause politicians understand technology so much better than technology companies ...

Ok, not sure how you get “sour apples” from what I said. I will enjoy the 13 MBP. It’s not my work laptop (which work provides) or the primary workstation in my house. It suits my needs quite well.

That said, I still think the 14” will replace the upper end 13” intel MBPs and the M1 will be unchanged for at least another year.

Here we go.. madness as people sell off their old mbp in Anticipation , the dosser guy jumps on the prediction bandwagon, people lap it all up.
Sold my MBP 2017 back in December for U$1750; I’ll be almost there for the new 14” although I’ll stretch for the 16” if performance difference is dramatic. That’s not madness, that’s being clever. (Survived with esxi server + iPad Pro)

I disagree. Everything points to the MacBook Pro being able to charge off both USB-C and Magsafe. Provided that the MBP supports USB-C charging I don't think the including of Magsafe falls afoul of EU rules. I sure hope it supports USB-C. I'm really looking forward to not carrying a separate power adapter for my MBP when I travel. It would be economic for Apple to develop a separate, EU MBP.

The sooner the better. Been waiting so long for this model though I feel like I'm just going to be disappointed since it's just going to feel like a year old M1 with more multitasking power at this point.

My late-2016 MBP died in May. This has been a long, long wait, but buying an Intel version made no sense.
