I've heard very good things about the skinit skins being both durable and reusable, so I'm assuming that they are easily removable (though not so easily that it just falls off :p). also, I doubt they would use a product that would ruin the finish on any computer.

EDIT: They use 3M adhesives which are great quality

I love my skinit skins on my computer.

I don't know about how well they remove (never tried but it is 3M and 3m does have a good reputation) but I will say they protect the computer pretty well (my MB has one and my MBP does too. Not a scratch on the skin even though the bottom of my MB that isn't "skinned" is scratched like crazy).

So I'd say they are pretty protective and, well, I like the design of mine (I wouldn't take it off unless selling the computer).

Apple could've just installed a quad-core in the 17" Pro and that would've justified the price jump.

Also, BB could've just preemptively made a webpage in anticipation - w/o having the actual machines in stock.

shhh dont ruin this for us xD

The skus of the MacBook Pros are listed on the Best Buy website.

The HIGHER price point of the 17" model probably proves that it's gonna have a SB four-core chip inside...

no one is going to buy that..but by the way this tells us that there will be more than just speed bumps because of the drastic price change.
When the iMacs last refreshed, didn't they go up in price even though they didn't really gain anything more than a speed bump?

i dont know but if the sources picked the right date then they probably also know what will be on it

All of the 15" MBPs and the 17" MBP have "ships within 24hr".
So what does this mean? Only the 13" MBPs are gonna have the update:confused:?!

Nope. Apple has started burning out their channels to reduce old models before a release. All that means is that in that area, all the 13inch models are cleared out to stores etc. So instead of doing a mass build that might not all sell, they are doing build at time of order. The US has the same sitch with th high end models

It might pay to check if it's still valid! I seems to remember the iTunes gift cards were only valid 1 year from the date of purchase.

US consumer law from about 4 years made it illegal to expire or devalue any gift cards only usable at select locales. So iTunes, apple, best buy, gap etc you are fine. Visa etc issued that work everywhere, you could be screwed

i think the smart thing for apple would be to put a sign on their homepage saying coming february 24th exc because then people will be more likely to buy it sooner because they will know what is going on. everone doesn't go on macrumors or something

Every major site and media outlet will be all over any release. Word will get out fast. No need to pre announce an announcement.

ahaha no thanks he would block me or something also then hell know there are leaks

Apple knows about th leaks. Has for years. If they really cared they would stop them. But it is free hype. The only time they bother shutting anything down is if someone does something illegal like Gawker tried last year.

They'll be told at the latest available opportunity and will probably also have signed NDA's - it's their job to sell you Apple products, not tell you to wait...

So I asked a few months back at one of my local stores and was told that they are told via the same announcements we see. In fact, it is not uncommon for them to pull up various blogs, the live stream etc and track it on the floor with the customers because no one is buying anyway.

I also ponder if the shift to Thursday/Friday launches is because those are already high traffic days so staff is scheduled heavy. Then managers don't have to scramble to redo things and dont have to be pre warned to schedule heavy, tipping them off that something is about to happen.

What stagnation?

I agree with those that make the claim. There has been some stagnation. But I won't go so far as to put the sole blame on Apple. In some cases, there has just been no where to go. What can you do with iWork other than rearrange deck chairs. All the big things right now are Microoft patented tech that thru won't license out, especially to Apple, because that is how push Office over iWork.

SSD etc hasn't been ready for primetime or cost efficient. Apple loathed to put baby tech in their stuff because it is just asking for more problems to throw at already overbooked Genuis Bars.

should I try and return it and get the new one?

If new ones are announced. Sure. Back up the old one to a hard drive, gather up all the disks, cables, box etc and ask. No harm. If you walk in nice and polite and expecting nothing you could be pleasantly surprised. After all, you aren't returning it, you are exchanging. And who knows, you might decide to go after that higher priced version, meaning not only are they not out any money, they got even more from you.

Just don't go in being a nasty, entitled, yelling, cussing jerk. Not cool.
If they come out on Thursday will I be able to go to the apple store that afternoon and buy one?

Unlikely. Typically they are shipping out the same day as the announcement which means at least a day to get to the stores. But we have to see what is said to know for certain.

thus my guess that it is indicative of a new product launch.

Or the bookstore staff are buying into the rumors and nothing more

The lack of details makes me question if they really know anything or if these are just placeholders accidentally made live.

Maybe the part numbers are real, but it could be that no one knows what they are for and assume they are computers and the same prices as before. And that is all. Not the first time it has happened with bb's site

apparently apple employees hate that lol but i will

going in and using the store as your free cybercafe, sure. But the product is there to be tried out before buying. And they encourage you to do that

Enough with the multicolor wishes already.

Given that Best Buy only has 5 SKU numbers listed for the entire lineup... there will be no color options. (We actually lost a 15" MBP offering).

when you say "gawker" who is that?

Gawker's Apple Tablet Scavenger Hunt.

EDIT: They offered cash - $10,000 for "bona fide pictures" to $100,000 for an actual prototype of the then-unannounced iPad. Which is illegal.

Doubtful. After all, he's not in a coma. He can walk and talk. He can stand up on a stage and make a presentation perhaps continuing the whole 'let's bring out the whole gang' stuff with Ive and some of the others doing some parts of the talking. Or Cook can use the same scheme.

He may not be in a coma but he incredibly ill. You really think he is going to get up on stage and talk for at least an hour about the new MBP? Why would they get Cook to take the speech as well? Cook won't have any where near the punch that Jobs will pack so why have a second class presentation? Personally i'd rather not see one at all.
