While it would be nice to see a 32GB option, I think people forget that OSX manages memory in a way that actually equates to more than the installed amount of memory. I remember them showing their memory compression techniques in the 10.9 or 10.10 keynote showing that they could fit over 20GB of data into 16GB of RAM....

Thank you David for emailing Apple and thank you MacRumors for bringing this story to everyone's attention. As many already know, I have serious concerns about the new 15" MBP being able to meet my needs out in the field as a traveling/assignment-based photographer and I am very seriously considering cancelling my order.

Everyone has different needs and it looks like Apple chose thinness and design over bigger amounts of RAM for its pro-user base. I fully understand that working pros are not the majority of buyers, but as a long-time Apple user (and fan) I am disappointed in their decision to not offer 32 GB of RAM as an option.

I love everything else about the new MacBook Pro and I am calm in my approach, but it looks like this MacBook Pro may not meet my needs today, let alone 2 years from now. I have some decisions to make.

The funny part of this conversation is how many people think they "need" 32GB of RAM... but are probably really only needing 8GB.
Really? Do you know many pro users are rendering 3D, movies, batch photo processing? Do you know many devs are using virtual machines and docker containers now?
These pro models are not for surfing the internet with safari and reading twitter.

32GB of RAM is an insane amount of memory.

One solution may have been to allow up to 32GB of memory when plugged into power, and then limit it to 16GB on battery power, but I don't know the technical requirements for that, or even if it's possible.

Anyone calling this garbage because this laptop doesn't support an astronomically large amount of RAM is just making noise. The Mac Pro supports up to 64GB of memory, so if you're in the market for a powerful Mac, Apple has you covered. It's unrealistic to expect them to pack a Mac Pro into a laptop. Possible, maybe, but at what compromise?

Don't make the freaking machine so thin... allow a slighter larger battery!

Another consequence of Apple compromising functionality over Form.

People have been making this moan on this very forum every single day since the first iPod was released - and in that time Apple has grown to be the biggest tech company in the world.

But you know, everyone on this forum definitely knows better.

Uh, no. How would that work? You are using 24GB of RAM and then you pull the power? boom, core dump.

Apple's reasoning is indefensible.

Give customers the OPTION. I guarantee you that those of us that need 32GB of RAM have NO problem finding a power outlet when required.

Defending Apple on this requires one to go full-retard.

If you are willing to plug in to use 32GB of memory, then buy a Mac Pro with 32GB or 64GB of memory. Then have a MacBook Pro when you're on the road. Apple is giving you options. People are just filtering the truth to make an argument.

Does Apple even makes "computers" anymore?? What they announced yesterday is an iPad Pro Pro. It appears all other models are EOL.

Macbook Air is about thinness and battery life.
Pro is about POWER!!! Anybody talking about thinness and battery life in a design meeting for Pro products would have been fired immediately by Steve Jobs. Max 16GB is most certainly NOT a Pro machine in 2016. Sorry, you can't spin that any other way.

So essentially, to remain an Apple customer ( as i have been for close to three decades)... you pretty much have to give up EVERYTHING. And here i thought Schiller was the only one who hadn't sold out. Can't innovate anymore... indeed.

THEN PUT IN A BIGGER BATTERY YOU NUGGET.

Most of us want smaller, lighter, better screens and longer battery life. The new Macs are pretty good at that, so I'm buying.

Mac Pros are aimed at prosumer customers, not hard-core IT professionals. That's a marketing choice that seems to work for Apple. Witness the demand for these new machines that is overrunning their early supply and production capacity.

If you want heavy iron, get something big that runs Windows.

Let people decide for themselves. Apple should offer 32GB, if that decreases the battery life - so what.

Secondly, this is a forum, allow people to speak their mind, whatever that may be.

They do? At any cost?

It is a lot of memory, but Macbook Pro's are supposed to be "Pro" machines, not just a marketing label. There are people out there who actually require 32GB.

Apple's competitors can offer 32GB, but Apple themselves, don't have the courage to also offer 32GB as an option.

This annoys me, and I also feel the graphic card choice in this update are a let down.
Frustratingly they have brought the iphone's slim design vs battery life crud to Macbooks.

The ram would not be too big of a deal, if the damn things were not soldered on.
