As has been stated earlier, Apple is only partially to blame.

The devices talked about use the outdated TI controller which was never meant for TB3 devices. Only the new controller by TI is actually designed for TB3 usage.

Windows builds in support for this Frankenstein TB3 outdated mish mash, MacOS doesn't.

It's not entirely Apple'a fault.

I remember being told I was holding my iPhone 4 wrong.... ;)

Please , stop defending apple like they are always the victim, some of their justifications are lame at best

So, a third-party accessory manufacturer is using wrong chips and of course its Apple's fault. Incredible :D

"So we offer these products as Windows-only Thunderbolt 3 devices until a future hardware update."
Wait, is it hardware or software? Will they work if you boot into Windows on your MBP?

All in all... they took something that was pretty portable and made it not so much anymore. I am extremely disappointed with the route apple is going with all of these dongles... for the phone lets remove the headphone jack but make wireless headphone have a short battery life. Remove all of the usb, and SD card slots from the laptops because WE ALL NEED TO CARRY A DONGLE NOW... WHY? This seems so ass-backwards. What happened to the magsafe adapter... are we now after years of being used to this now to worry about cables and usb drives now plugged into it. I don't care about the statement of being brave for the iphone, its not about bravery, it was about waterpoof and having no room for the head phone jack because we really need a skinnier phone? No. Now the macbook pro needs to be as skinny as the phone and to remove all the options it had to be more portable but in reality IT'S NOT. I am so angry with this direction they seem to be going in... the little itrack thing isn't innovative... where is the touch screen? Didn't apple make its money from the iphone's ability with its touch screen? How can they let microsoft beat them on their version of the imac? Maybe all the good ideas or ability to push people's creativity to produce excellent design was lost when he passed away... the watch is a waste and is basically a mini phone, not innovative especially even the same shape, boring. I hope my current macbook pro can last as long as its predecessor so I don't have to buy this BACKWARDS DESIGN. STOP trying to look busy/innovative, there is the old saying if it's not broken don't fix it. If something needs to be changed do it, but dongles on something that is supposed to be portable is not fixing it or improving its ability to make it faster or more portable.

USB-C is the new standard. In time, all manufacturers will adapt USB-C. So I honestly don't get why people are getting fed up. Sure change can be cumbersome, but its all for the best.
- no backwards compatibility: a shame indeed.
- Iphone 7 not USB-C compatible: serious brain damage @Apple

I consider it a great move from apple. You can argue a lot of decisions made by apple, but lets be honest, adaption of USB-C is not one of them.

That being said, the new MacBook Pro is the second worst update in recent apple history. Number 1 being IPAD PRO (bad adaption of iOS).

I have been waiting long enough to realize this is going nowhere. I expected a lot. But I definitely didn't expect a silly touch bar, the marginal incremental hardware update, and the pricing. Still undecided whether I should buy the new surfacebook. What is holding me back, you say: WINDOWS.
Why they don't want to accept touch screen is beyond me (as an option). It would make lives of so many designers so much better. Students already in so much debt (college, universities), I don't think they can afford this laptop. So who are they targeting?

Competitors are catching up or have left apple way behind.
Backwards compatibility if fundamental to any ecosystem aimed at the professional / corporate markets. No one wants there investments to be made obsolete overnight. They simply won't buy the new non-compliant product. What does this say about Apple, that they have no interest in anything other than the fashion market, because that's what the new mbpro is aimed at....overpriced/underwhelming.

iPhones 7 is USB C compatible and your post is confusing but I can gather its negative.

It is backwards compatible

This didn't have to be a difficult transition. All they had to do was keep a USB-A port or two along with USB-C, just like every other PC manufacturer is going to do for the next 3 or so years.

The chip manufacturer does not agree...
I read your post above, and I didn't see where you were getting that the -2 chip isn't meant for TB3. All it said is that the -3 is meant only for TB3.

No, it still uses that stupid Lightning port, which I used to like until I realized that it's physically unreliable due to poor design and software-wise unreliable due to its using of the equivalent of DRM for cables... i.e. it keeps randomly thinking my stuff ain't genuine.

The older part appears to have reset issues with Alpine Ridge.

You know how this mess feels like? It's like buying a BMW without the 4 wheels, so you basically cannot use it after the purchase, first you need to buy all sorts of extra adapters to attach your wheels. Well, I guess there is a mercedes shop around the corner...
.
in the Uk, the base price increased by £4-500. On top, the user needs a good 3-5 dongles to make it usable (ssd, usb, ethernet, thunderbolt, hdmi), that's an extra £120-200. All together a £520-700(!!) price increase for the BASE model. That would buy you a new ipad or another second hand macbook. People will simply not go for this pricing. The bare minimum Apple should have done is to include 3 free dongles at this point in time.
.
My family owns 3 macs and 1 macbook pro - and for me this is a turning point in our loyalty and our relationship towards Apple. The reason is simple: for the first time, i genuinly feel that the user doesn't matter. It feels like a shady garage business where they want to screw you with tricks. Apple has never been cheep, neither BMW and other brands, yet we still chose them. but they crossed a line where you feel that they deliberetly want to trick you paying almost double price.

"would also be Apple's fault because everything always is."

See this is the part I'm replying to.....that apple is always the victim .

How about you reread his and mine comment. I agree with Everythink he wrote, except the quote above....and linked a classic example of where apple plays the blame game

All I can say is thankfully it's so early in TB3's launch that all new products will know of this issue. This will be forgotten about next week.

I am not sure if I am allowed to post this link here, but I found this information quite enlightening.
Sounds like USB-C/TB3 connectors, cables and standards are a right nightmare at this point in time.
Did Apple jump too soon on this one?

It certainly is confusing because of how versatile it is, kinda like Objective-C with its backwards compatibility. But there isn't much they can do to avoid it other than waiting for a few typical kinds of USB-C to become mainstream.

I think Apple is trying to take us to the future by taking the "courage" to remove all the outdated connections and use the updated TB3/USB-C instead. Bad news for people who do not want to change/wait will end up buying adapters/hubs, I believe it's just a temporary solution. The new Macbook Pro has only launched recently and it takes time for companies update their products. Good news that the Macbook Pro now brings 4x TB3 with up to 40Gbps and a power delivery up to 100W (Up to 15W on devices) would cut down on using the power adapters.

Apple needs more Indian tech guys and less Doctors who aren't really Doctors.

Does Jony Ive even owns a computer or just plays all day with foam prototypes down in his basement lab using imaginary software?

It was good to a point, but isn't helping Apple right now to have him toying in his basement.

Can any one please explain to me, how come the USB-C is the same as thunderbolt? I thought they are different just like Firewire and USB are different.

Plus, I have never seen a thunderbolt device, what can it do that USB 3 can't?
