This is actually hilarious. They remove every single port and replaces it with a single port no one has a single accessory for. And as a final F*** you all B***es the port won't work with the dongles that you need to make your stuff work.

That new 'spaceship' of theirs is actually a Death Star.

Actually it's not that bad. People has been using USB-C accessories with Thunderbolt 3 ports, and that is cheaper than Thunderbolt solution.

USB-C Dock from Caldigit, OWC or Plugable should work with the new Mac's Thunderbolt 3 ports.
Caldigit's one is working well and has been confirmed by several users, not sure about OWC's and Plugable's. But definitely Plugable's Thunderbolt 3 dock does not work at all. That's been confirmed by this thread.

I would stay with a company that is more "mac-centric" such as OWC and CalDigit. Safe and Sound.

So are there lists of known compatible and known incompatible devices?

That's why I said, all the Mac users should stay with a company that is more "mac-centric" such as OWC and CalDigit. Plugable's one is mainly designed for Windows users.

What will be interesting is if my windows desktop with an Alpine Ridge controller also starts to have compatibility or functional issues with these early TB3 devices. I'd rather it just didnt work at all and displayed a notice as to why than exibited any behavioural issues or risked any damaged to my motherboard. As much as it might be frustrating I don't think we have enough information really just yet to jump to a conclusion if Apple are right or wrong in this scenario. We also don't know if future MBPs will also not be compatible - my guess is they wont be - so anyone delaying a purchasing decision based on this might be wasting time.

Note: Yes I have a windows desktop, yes I have a MBP for mobile work, I game so need the windows machine.

The current news of incompatibility with some thunderbolt devices, and the earlier news of two usb c ports on the right having reduced pci bandwidth compared to the usb c ports on the left, is beginning to appear like a day time soap opera where new twists and turns are uncovered every day... Very exciting, Apple.

The CPU you linked is 15w. The only machine that could have gone in is the entry level (MO touch bar) 13". The higher end 13" and the 15" use 28w and 45w. This has been posted endlessly and someone keeps making the incredible "discovery"

The linked CPU can be configured as 25W (2.7GHz, 3MB L3) which would be on subpar with the current offering, meanwhile consuming less. Also recommended price is lower by 40$. In my opinion they could have gone with this: http://ark.intel.com/products/95451/Intel-Core-i7-7500U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz- configured to 25W.

This is currently Intel's best offering and more expensive by 70$, according to Intel it performs however 10% faster and consumes considerably less. They could have afforded it since they actually reduced storage for the "high-end" MBP 13-inch.

The reason why they didn't do it is because what are they going to upgrade to next year?

8th generation Intel won't be ready so Kaby Lake and price dump is the only meaningful update, and of course GPU update for the 15-inch. And the truth is that's it for the coming 3-4 years, minor speed bumps, minor price drops and if we are lucky a resolution bump around 2019.

Tim Cook is not able to run a company of this size

He wants Apple to only concentrate on iPhones, iPads, wearables and services

1. Most of his time is spent on public / media relations and foreign government lobbying
2. He spends most of his time overseas or in Washington DC
3. He completely relegated every operation to the sales and marketing dept
4. He is concerned only about the iPhone and iPads (90% of Apple's revenue)
5. His though of innovation is squeezing revenue from services like Apple music, icloud, tv subscriptions in the future etc.

If he personally doesn't use a particular Apple product,
he wants Apple to consider that product an afterthought

He should be honest and resign since Apple DNA was never meant to be this pathetic

It doesn't happen on the 2015 MBP and the Dell
I'm not trying to defend or excuse the new MacBook Pro, it's just that 2.4GHz WiFi combined with USB3 is a known problem area. If you look at the video review where this problem with WiFi was demonstrated it seemed to be very intermittent and that's exactly the kind of behavior you can get when USB3 devices interfere with 2.4GHz WiFi. It also depends upon the device and the design of the motherboard, so some products have more of an issue that others.

In any case, the solution may be that you have to use 5GHz WiFi, but this assumes that there is an issue which may not be the case and it may vary from device to device.

Is there anything good about these MacBooks? expect that they are almost sold out as they said? :D

Hey, at least they are so thin that you can push them thru 15mm opening.

How about the most pre-orders of a MacBook Pro ever?

Yeah, when you don't update your models as often you did and people are buying every year more through web, it tends to look good in numbers.

I am not sure about slowing symptom, but apparently, wifi stops working once usb-c devices are plugged in. It works fine when no devices are plugged in though.

You can see above symptoms in detail:

Do you think it might have to do with the thunderbolt adapter not being fully compatible? After reading the article on pluggable, starting to think that might take into affect that faulty performance.

http://plugable.com/2016/10/27/the-new-2016-macbook-pros-plugables-thunderbolt-3-and-usb-c-products/

Makes me mad that apple even released this. So many incompatible devices right off the bat.

But guess what, turns out at least some of the Apple dongles are not compatible with other dongles, Apple or otherwise (i.e. they cannot be stacked). e.g. You cannot use the Apple mini-DisplayPort-to-DVI dongle with the Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 (mini-DP/TB) adapter.
This is the best post ever. (Also bad news for me, because I was trying to figure out if I could do something like that.)

this is only a prequel of what is to come. They have said it themselves. Wireless is the future. Next MacBook... No ports. How else will they keep making thinner lighter. They have lost their mind. Soon everything will be in cloud, bye bye hard drive or ssd.

Tim is always traveling with his beloved iPad pro

Would you trust a CEO that is selling you a product he doesn't even use ?

Well, I have the OWC TB2 dock and it's absolutely rubbish so forgive me for not being enthusiastic about about these "mac-centric" offerings.
Actually, what's worse than anything else with the OWC dongle is the audio - it's absolutely awful. And that's the way we are going forward now with the DAC-on-a-dongle.

Not that anyone will let facts stand in the way of their narrative, but let me repeat that Plugable is using the wrong TI part.

"The TPS65983 will have an updated FW interface and an improved reset behavior for Two Port Alpine Ridge Systems."

"The TPS65983 is intended for Thunderbolt 3 device makers only." (also here)

They tried to use a USB power and data mux for a TB3 device. I'm sure Apple could have enumerated it just as some Windows systems do, but then all of you would be complaining that your TB3 bus is locking up which, of course, would also be Apple's fault because everything always is.

Plugable is using the same strategy Dash did-- they're making Apple out to be a bogey man to bring out the torches and pitchforks and ya'll are just falling right in line.

USB-C is the new standard. In time, all manufacturers will adapt USB-C. So I honestly don't get why people are getting fed up. Sure change can be cumbersome, but its all for the best.
- no backwards compatibility: a shame indeed.
- Iphone 7 not USB-C compatible: serious brain damage @Apple

I consider it a great move from apple. You can argue a lot of decisions made by apple, but lets be honest, adaption of USB-C is not one of them.

That being said, the new MacBook Pro is the second worst update in recent apple history. Number 1 being IPAD PRO (bad adaption of iOS).

I have been waiting long enough to realize this is going nowhere. I expected a lot. But I definitely didn't expect a silly touch bar, the marginal incremental hardware update, and the pricing. Still undecided whether I should buy the new surfacebook. What is holding me back, you say: WINDOWS.
Why they don't want to accept touch screen is beyond me (as an option). It would make lives of so many designers so much better. Students already in so much debt (college, universities), I don't think they can afford this laptop. So who are they targeting?

Competitors are catching up or have left apple way behind.

That adapter may be doing something fishy—potentially leaking enough EMF to disrupt wifi, or causing a problem with the TB bus itself. He should have tried a different adapter, for one. Also, once the touchbar versions are out he could plug it in on the other side, which is a separate bus, and see if the problem is still there. As long as it isn't a hardware problem, Apple could potentially fix it in an update.
I usually don't worry about problems that can be fixed with a firmware update, but Apple can't download me a quieter keyboard. Can they? On the bright side, when there finally is a third generation butterfly key mechanism, the prices of MBPs will have fallen too. :D

I remember being told I was holding my iPhone 4 wrong.... ;)

Please , stop defending apple like they are always the victim, some of their justifications are lame at best
