Just like my other thread it will be June 5th, 2007. I got too much hassle for posting 6/5/07.

The reason being is Apple wants to start their Educational Back to School Program soon, before WWDC. You can not start the program and then change models a week into the promo. Which like last year will most likely be a dollar amount off an iPod with purchase of a new system.

By changing the system ahead of the school promo, all the marketing can be made ahead of time with the correct specs.

Period.

Now that makes sense. IIRC from one of the threads a couple weeks ago, the Back-to-school promo last year started on June 5th.

If it's not Santa Rosa or LED backlit screens, then wtf will it be?

I'd be hoping for a GFX card update? bumps in processor/hdd to restore distance on Macbooks too?

We need a sweepstake. Guess the weight of the new MBP?

WWDC, being for developers, could reasonably be focussed almost entirely on Leopard. I can believe it.

Especially if the secret features are important and interesting to developers. They might need a lot of time to demo them.

I vote for the 5th. Why not bring them out early?

I think it might be announced on the 5th, just so Steve can spend his time on other things in the keynote on the 11th. He needs to discuss Leopard, iPhone, and anything else he has under his sleeve.

We'll have to wait and see.

Okay guys. This presents a bit of a problem for us. We JUST purchased a new MacBook Pro, simply because we HAD to have it in our possesion no later than next thursday (June 7th).

Now, We ordered ours just this Tuesday, (May 29th). Now I read somewhere that in a case where you order a computer JUST before an update, and you were scheduled not to recieve it until after the update date, they ship you the new computer with the configuration you ordered?

IF this rumor is true, and IF they ship us the new comp, will it be in by June 7th? We're leaving on a 3 week vacation on Friday the 8th, and we HAVE to have a computer with us for Work and Financial reasons.

Processor is already maxed.. can't go any higher without going to santa rosa

No, it will most likely not be there on the 7th. If it was in stock, say there is no rev. expected then it would ship according to plan or date in this case.

Since there is a rev. expected on Tuesday, your order goes back into a pool in the order it was placed with other customers and when those new systems ship yours will be pulled in order or date the order was placed.

You still might be able to find if need be an older model from a reseller that would most likely have price protecton on the older models and be selling them 100-150$ off.

In-Depth Analysis

i think that the macbook pro will get its led, santa rosa, graphix cards, processor, etc. upgrades on the 5th

remember in jobs interview at D last afternoon he said that wwdc will be telling the secret features of leopard and massive investments in desktops.

that leaves the mac mini, imac, and mac pro

the mac pro could get some updates but they wont really be "massive investments in desktops," and also technically mac pros are workstations and not desktops

it is possible that the mac mini could be discontinued, or they could make it into a headles version of the imac. If they made the price of that very cheap, it would be competing with all the pc's out there for the consumers. Now apple would make alot of money off of that so it could be massive investments in desktops.

now the other possibility, which i think is the most likely is a redesigned imac, with santa roas, and possibly touch screen. If apple does what they're best at and gives it a stunning and sleek new redesign, they will get lots of press and publicity, so that could also be a massive investments in desktops.

the main reason that i think that the imacs will get redesigned and have a touchscreen interface, is why steve mentioned what he mentioned at D. he said what he is most excited about and what is the newest to him and a first at apple. Leopard is an amazing operating system and steve is extremely proud of it. MacMini and MacPro would just be spec upgrades and is not particulary exciting and fun to talk about. But a completely new thing for mac users would be redesigned and touch screen imacs at their current prices.

It still is very possible that we see more than one desktop model updated.

I also think that there is a small chance that the apple cinema displays might be updated very quickly, not using a huge portion of the keynote, to give the displays built in isight, improved specs, and a slimmer case.

Thanks for reading this

Julian
:apple:

Quiet updates before WWDC07 I can see that happening, personally I think it might because then it wont take away from Leopard, the iPhone and hopefully a new iPod (fingers crossed). :apple:

i would like to know some spec speculation on this. 2.4 c2d santa rosa, 800 mhz fsb... and...

Processor is already maxed.. can't go any higher without going to santa rosa

Lots of updates happening in June. I can feel it.

The MacBooks are just as fast as the iMacs. I think the Mac Mini will just be upgraded to Core 2 Duo, with a 1.83 ghz processor on the bottom-line, and a 2.0 ghz C2D high end.

Will the iMacs get Santa Rosa?

In The 'Order Status' section of the Apple Website, it says "Not Yet Shipped..." and it said that a mere 4 hours after we ordered it, and it hasn't changed yet.

Did they manufacture it that quickly? If I recal a while back when ordering my iPod (5G), the status went through "Order Recieved", "Order Being Processed", "Order Processed", "Not Yet Shipped..." and that all took a day or two.

What would this mean in corlation to this rumor?

Don't see anything for not yet shipped, but I would guess that you are getting the revved version.

I think that WWDC is the time for updates. Let's hope, because if they update the MBP in June 5, then it would be a very tiny update.

If it is a big update they would surely want to wait till WWDC.

This will just be a bump to the existing MBPs, incorporating some of the new features from Santa Rosa into the existing packages. There is way too much to talk about at WWDC to spend time on a fairly incremental upgrade (Leopard, iLife, iWork, iPhone etc).

I could however see them release announce the new MBP mini at WWDC after the upgrades to the existing ones are announced the week before.

Dunno if anyone said this, but it should be pointed out. C2D update was a quiet update. No *real* announcements. The online store was simply updated. So it is possible that it MAY be SR. Don't get your hopes up though ;)

Exactly, the C2D was in November I believe and it was just on the Apple Store with a press release. Steve isn't going to waste time at a developers conference on MBP. Leopard is the main stage event this year.

If they had LED, which they wouldn't it might be keynote material but not speed bumps to Santa Rosa.

My best guess is that Steve (Apple) will want to get all the minor upgrades out of the way. Even if they are going to put santa rosa & LED screens into the MBP; these are 'minor' upgrades they have already talked about or people know they are coming (Announced by Intel). For WWDC news it would be a footnote compared to Leopard Features and/or New iMac designs (or a new Desktop System), so why wait, maximize news coverage.

If its just a minor boost of specs to make the pricing on-par with the MacBooks, they don't want to have any negative feedback during the conference.

In any matter, other then the Mac Pro & Mac Book, I expect that all the Macs will be updated/announce/discontinued by or at WWDC.

Cheers!

5th or 11th is the same to me. Gotta wait till WWDC is over to see what I am going to be buying. If the Macbook Pro's just a really good update and maybe a teeny price drop then it's 90% I will buy one. If the iMac's get a killer update then maybe I get one of those and a refurb macbook for my portable needs. Either way I am waiting till Stevie makes his annoucements...just more time to drool over a mbp should they release next week :D
