I feel like people love bashing apple when they make major changes to their hardware in a direction that might not be the current expectation. When has Apple not gone out on a limb to challenge current standards? When it comes to owning a computer, I expect that at purchase it will last me 4-6 years. Is a little in convenience for the first maybe 6 months to a year worth it? Yes, because then the rest of its life everyone else is doing the same exact things. Changing to USB-C external accessories is the same exact process when Apple switched from 30pin to lightning. Everyone said Apple is the dumbest company for making people re buy all new accessories or buy converters. How can you expect any technology company to move forward with that type of attitude? Are we suppose to stay in our boxes because we don't want to be inconvenienced when in a years time we're not going to think anything of it. Was everyone inconvenienced when people bought DVD players at $1000 a piece to try and convert massive libraries to disc? People have had 4K televisions for years when there simply has not been any content til recently. Price people pay for being early adopters.

Someone happy with mediocrity. Just because Apple chooses to "challenge current standards" doesn't make it good or right or what everybody wants. Apple banks on people like you who will just blindly shell out their cash for whatever Apple puts out. Fortunately, there are plenty of people who will call Apple out for making poor decisions.

Enjoy all those USB-C ports. Get a big bag to hold all those adapters and dongles.

could please someone explain to me: what is PRO in apple's lineup?

I can't simply figure out, who is a professional in apple's terms these days...

this whole "PRO" mumbo jumbo sounds more like "preferably removed options"

But everyone is a "pro" in their own minds. Which explains why so many photoshop enthusiasts insist they're crippled at 16GB of ram....as if they haven't had a functional computer all these years without 32GB.....

To be honest, a device with the "PRO" moniker should be configurable for a Professional. I work with graphics professionals and the need for 32GB or even 64GB of RAM is desirable when working with 10GB InDesign files.

While many normal people will buy a PRO Macbook to just do daily stuff, the product should be fully configurable for anyone's needs. Take a look at Dell Precision or Alienware notebooks.

Enough of this crap! -regarding the article- I know its a rumors page but i had enough of it. I mean it. Its been a long time for the update of the product and now this rumor is making lots of people wondering wether to buy this new mac or not. Now we have rumors of fastest memory, better prices -there probably will be rumors of a 5k display, faster ssd, faster gpu and better processors.

Ok. Just guys tell you something If you need it just buy it. Its a great computer Is not worth to keep waiting in a year or two there always is going to be a better computer with price drops, 32, 64 or more ram

In my opinion apple has lost the horizon since the release of the iPhone. Don't get me wrong its a great product but apple is not innovating anymore the way they use do it. In the case of this computer I might get a 15 inch one too but they don't care about selling computers since the refresh rate each product is HUGE. The name PRO used to be something valuable for apple. In the present just a marketing thing.

Perfect timing for me. I'm a graphic design student and I'm graduated in summer next year with my Macbook Pro 2.6Ghz/16GB/512GB SSD Late 2013. I like the new Macbook Pro but it is a bit too expensive and I want my next Macbook Pro Retina to ave 32GB, so I'm a little more future proof.

Who's cancelling their pre order? lol

If you need a computer, but the ones from 2015, otherwise... wait. There is no need to buy the current generation unless there is none of the 2015 generation available.

Personally, I prefer people buying the current model with the TouchBar, they will help my stock shares of Apple rise and will also pay the overprice of the 'innovation' so that I can get the next generation cheaper and with proper specs :)

Now we get price cuts, now we get 32GB of RAM? What the hell is going on at Apple?

About a week ago Schiller said they don't build the MacBook for price they build it for experience. Has he changed his mind ... is he now building for price and an even a worse experience?

...no. Once the scale of their production increases, they are able to bring the price down. Remember the OG Air?

Vote with your wallet. That's all Apple listens to. Keep buying their misdirected, overpriced products and nothing will change and will probably get worse.

People are making such a huge issue out of the 32GB RAM. Why do you need more than 16GB? There are very few processes out there that require more than 16GB. And if something requires it, you're probably not using something like a laptop to do it.

More does not always equal better, especially with RAM. There's a point of diminishing returns, and 16GB is pretty much that point. In most cases, architectural changes to the CPU, newer GPU, etc will offer much better performance gains than simply piling on more RAM.

Because I want to run virtual machines. At an absolute minimum I need one virtual machine for Windows and one for Linux. The minimum recommendations for Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows 10 are 2GB each. 16GB divided between three operating systems is only 5.333 GB. Don't even get me started on Pro applications. On my Mac Pro with 128 GB of ram I literally idle at around 40 GB used. kernel_task alone is taking up 5 GB. Then we have Safari/Flash to deal with, that program leaks memory like a sieve, I've once had it consume all 128 GB of ram when I went away on a long trip. Right now, looking at Activity Monitor, Safari is using over 11 GB.

My six year old Mac Pro 2010 has 128 GB of ram. Even my Early 2011 MBP has 16 GB of ram, what Apple is doing is reaching absurdity. I will not buy another MBP until the 15 inch comes with 32 GB.

Really? When should we expect the iPhone 7 Plus prices to come down? Or, when will that 3 year old Mac Pro come down in price? Certainly they've caught up on production of that unit after 3 years!!! :)

Ming-Chi Kuo has a good track record. I'm pleased with my decision to not buy one of these expensive machines and wait. Instead I've bought a PC with a beefy graphics card, i7 6700, 16GB for half the price of the MacBook Pro I was going to buy. I can continue to use my exiting MBP for the lighter work.

The prices were hiked on the first retina display MBP, and then reduced back to 'regular' price points for the next speed bump 6 or so months after.

I know what you mean. They just don't care anything about money

Just the way it goes for refreshed generations. We should see $400-$600 cuts across the board in the form of new entry-level MacBook Pro with touch bar models next year.
$400-$600 is a ton, there is no way Apple is going to cut that high after a single year (Also that would put many things lower than their prices last year, which were at a low already.) $200 -$300 is the most likely case. Drop the retina MB to $999 (finally returning an "entry level" machine to the lineup that isn't really old.) MBP "Air" (non-touchbar) goes to $1299, Touchbar MBP at $1499. Drop the holdover 2015 rMBP 13.

Those prices make sense to the consumer and clean up the lineup into something that actually makes sense.

Let's play a game of what's more likely:
1. Consumers vote with their wallet and Apple admits their mistake and brings back the requested features.
2. Low sales convince Apple that people really want devices more like an iPad and the rate of Mac Transmutilation accelerates.

Do you cry that BMWs are marked up? Apple is not a bulk discounter like Dell. They sell premium designer product ---with OSX --- that stuff ain't free.

Just to add one more thing...apple products have great resell value. What other computer brand maintains it's resell value several years down the road? For extreme example, check out the going prices for Rev A iPods on ebay!

I'm pretty certain a new design BMW will significantly out perform the previous model and offer new tech, not massively increase the retail price for miniscule performance gains and two year old technology..

Apple IS a bulk mass consumer electronic manufacture and is not a designer fashion label... sorry to break that news to you.

Have you replaced with HDD with an SSD, an upgraded the memory?

After I did this to my 2011 MBP several years ago, it felt like a new machine. For non graphical tasks, it still runs fast enough ( software development etc ).

I was planing to buy the new MacBook Pro but daaaaaamn it's so over price and I want to upgrade the specs to 16g and 1 tira but after I saw the price am so over my limits
I have 2011 MacBook Pro and it's like a cow it's to slow to use I need a new MacBook Pro for college

Price Down? Apple? Don't think so. In several months you will have price drops from companies like amazon, bhphotovideo, adorama -they are selling the MacBooks around 100 and 200 cheaper than apple itself-

Emphasis mine.

You're comparing the intended utility of a Mac Pro to a MacBook Pro. Apples and Oranges.

Apples to oranges. You're moving the goal posts.

The OG Air is the perfect example.

And if a $300 price increase is that unpalatable to you, then you have other issues you need to be addressing before even considering a new work machine.

Some people have to justify their purchases to bosses or significant others.
If you were planning to spend $1200 on a 2015 13" rMBP or expanded Air you've already out on a limb explaining why a $600 PC with the same processor and RAM wasn't good enough for you. Now you have to explain away another $300 price hike - plus $200 or so in cables and adapters. These things add up. But, hey, lucky me has the cash, so I'm alright Jack.

Stop the press:

Has Dell raised the prices of the XPS 13 series?

I'm now seeing (on the US site) $1400 for the "new" XPS 13 with QHD screen, 15W i5, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD (broadly comparable with the $1500 13" MBP) - The Dell has Kaby Lake processors but HD, not Iris graphics (probably a zero-sum game) but I'd certainly pay $100 extra for Apple over Dell. The XPS 15s are still cheap c.f. the MBP 15 (but I don't think their GPUs are in the same class)

That puts things in a different context - considering that the XPS 13 and MS Surface Book (which has always been "overpriced") are probably the main competitors.

Looks like the industry may have been waiting to see who blinked first on price.

I vote #1. I don't think most Professionals want an iPad-like device unless you are an artist. That form factor will never be as powerful as a notebook just due to thermals.

If public displeasure is out in the press and on social media, etc., I think Apple may take heed and possibly lower prices and redesign to bring back features that people want.

In reality, though it will be #3--Apple will ignore everyone and do whatever they want because people will always buy their products no matter how many compromises need to be made.

What is an "OG Air"?

I can wait, these ones just announced are not a good value at the current price points.
This.

The product was late. It was always going to be controversial by removing ports. The touch bar is not an obvious improvement (short term at least). So, the price hike was just a kick in the nuts.

Well, see ya later Apple. Not shopping at the greedy store any time soon.
