This may be Apls new pricing structure from now on. At launch of a new product jack up the prices 15-20% above what they "normally" would have charged. Then when the product starts getting long in the tooth a year or so down the line, offer a "discount" of 15-20%.

Customers think they're finally getting a deal on old tech, which makes them less disgruntled, but in reality they're still getting ripped like the good ole days.

It's a win/win

Based on Kuo I'm not too confident. So...

I just decided to buy an HP Z840 workstation and I can config it anyway I want and its super powerful. I can use their free RGS software to control it through my MBP or even an iPad which is like having a turbo boost of power and the files are all created on the z840 so I don't have to clutter my MBP and use one device to control two. I can do that from the same room or 1,000 miles away.

So now I don't have to worry about Apple's BS anymore. I can upgrade ANY component I want and HP backs it up with 30 day money back, awesome 3 year warranty, etc, etc. So my recco is for anyone curious to checkout HP's workstation website. You can even call them and they'll walk you through it and get you special discounts. Better yet check out the RGS (remote graphics software) which has a MAC centric webpage and videos to explain how you can use your mac to work with the z.

Knowing is half the battle.

Thanks, now I see it too :D

Next year it's Kaby Lake (Cannonlake unlikely), touch bar and a $200-300 cut for the entry 13" MBP because it will have to come closer in price to the entry MBA, while the 12" MB will have to match that price of $999 exactly because the MBA will be discontinued by this time next year.

The entry level prices for the new 13" and 15" are $500 more! For a stupid bar? When was the last time new MacBooks were so much more expensive, and then took a price cut? Never. I don't buy that the first MacBook Air is an example of anything. That was a specialty product, unlike the staple laptops that generally just get better with the same price point.

8GB RAM is like $40. But Apple charges us $200 for it - to escape being stuck at just 8GB which is not a pro level performance.

Before, it don't really matter because we would just put our own RAM in, but that's not an option anymore... Tim Cook is a disappointment.

The new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar weighs as little as my MacBook Air from early 2014 does. It does that with a Retina display, better processor, faster RAM, and pretty close to the same battery life (10 hours for Pro, 12 hours for Air) as mine. That's why it costs $1,799. If price kills it, there are $1,299 and $1,499 MBP models as well.

And yes, this is basically the same as the MacBook Air. It was an engineering challenge that started Apple on the path to killing hard disks. Thank goodness. The MacBook last year was the same for "make it thin and only use USB." This new MBP is "put a Touch Bar and Touch ID on it and make it thinner and lighter."

Complain all you want about Tim Cook, but Apple charged a buttload for RAM when Steve Jobs ran the place. I also bought a $1,799 MacBook Pro from Apple when Jobs was running it.

I believe it, and I bet they will add ports. So many tech mags, blogs, tech pod casts, and enthusiasts are really criticizing Apple. However, the decision limiting ram isn't really Apple's fault, it's intels. So a bit unfair.

Apple will change it's strategy, my prediction is future models will add wireless charging and add a lightning port. All it will take is Taylor Shift to make an executive decision. Shame they didn't run it by her first, because the current CEO is a complete dud.

Aww. Your subtle and nuanced posting history of 11 posts of sheer negativity while ra-ra-ing the surface suggested otherwise too. Who would have guessed.
Yeah because I was waiting for the Macbook. Thank you for pointing that out.

While Kuo expects price cuts for new and existing MacBooks, like both the 12-inch MacBook and the new MacBook Pros, it's unclear whether he expects Apple to offer support for up to 32GB of RAM for the 12-inch MacBook in addition to the MacBook Pros.

Unclear? Or did he just assume everyone would know that 32gb of RAM in a 12" MacBook would be pointless? I'm sure there are a handful of contrarians out there who insist they use and rely on a 12" Core M MacBook for their design or video work, but rational people should understand that an ultra-ultra portable computer like the MacBook doesn't need 32gb of RAM. After all, Apple only officially supports 64gb on the Mac Pro, and still caps the iMac at 32gb.

Well... I'm not waiting anymore. So for now I'll take the laptop I get instead of the laptop I want.

Going to keep this 2016 15" in pristine condition. Sell it right before the new ones come out.

In this case I will hold on to my 2012 MBP Retina for one more year, worth the wait for 32GB ram and better performance, in all honesty ... my system now works plenty well anyhow. I only really wanted to upgrade to a system that had more memory anyhow. #worththewait

Jesus Christ, I'm surprised Jony Ive hasn't made a sleek and light weight unibody aluminum bullet to snipe this Ming-Chi Kuo Wanted-style from the other side of the planet. How is this one guy year after year taking the surprise out of Apple's launches? I refuse to believe that Apple are feeding this particular person leaks.

Apple must be very annoyed that many things concerning their computer lines are essentially dictated by Intel. They have Apple by the.. Apples. Bandwidth/PCIe lane/RAM/battery etc, problems with all of these stem from the CPU. One thing we know for sure, Apple is frantically exploring ways to make them not dependent on Intel while at the same time not making their machines incompatible with anything. The A10 Fusion Chip was a warning shot to Intel, telling them to stop missing deadlines for process/architecture releases.

This article isn't fact or an Apple announcement, just someone speculating what might happen if Intel stops missing their CPU timetables next year.
And while this might look like a reaction to the Internet's reaction to the Apple announcements, this is probably a reaction to the announcements themselves. When you get new hard data (aka the announcements), you'll usually recalibrate your predictions.

I'm beginning to like this guy Kuo.

Apple did the same thing with iPad Pro if u remember as well..

They had the 4 speaker system on the iPad Pro, which if customers were excited about this as well would go to the Pro, then a year later they bought the same features to the mini.

so based on that.... this kind of makes sense... first bring it to the 5k (iMac with memory supporting 32Gig), then bring it to laptops later.. (if intel can control their release cycle), but even if they can't current gens still use less power, so that could always be an augment to do it anyway.
