Now we get price cuts, now we get 32GB of RAM? What the hell is going on at Apple?

About a week ago Schiller said they don't build the MacBook for price they build it for experience. Has he changed his mind ... is he now building for price and an even a worse experience?

it my never come like the quad core 13" MBP

Yes! A price cut will be possible from a base model that comes without a discrete GPU, relying on Iris Pro, which might be sufficient if the next Intel's Iris Pro graphics.
Sorry to say, but Iris Pro for mobile CPUs appears to be on the way out per some leaked Intel roadmaps. Iris should stick around for a bit longer, but even that may go away after a couple years.

My god these comments are inane...

Did you read the article or even the headline? This is speculation about next year. The current chipset doesn't support LPDDR4 and Apple doesn't want to give up on LP, so it maxes out at 16GB (which is the highest amount of LPDDR3 which is supported). Next year, shocking, things will be different, since new technology comes out.

Well that was quick... will they make it thicker and add ports back?

Of course they'll not add ports back.

Who will still be paying attention to Apple in 2017 ?? Does it take being hit over the head with an overpriced Macbook to really see what is going on?

If I were to guess, people other than you. Grow some empathy.

WTF? Apple! Punish the critics now and the loyalists next year?
Who's setting prices at Apple these days ?

Yeah, let's cancel all innovation, right? Keep things as they were last year forever.

jumping ship? Nope!

most people like me are holding on to their MacBooks and waiting for the slightly cheaper more powerful version being released in 6 months

Well yes there are a lot of people like yourself holding out until next year.

However, there are also loads of people who were at the point of exhaustion waiting for this to be released, only to be shot down by the excessive cost.

These folks were at the breaking point and may not be as fortunate to wait it out until the next update.

I empathize with everyone because of the high costs and the lackluster release of the refresh.

Just a personal dislike for the touch bar, not for me but I'm sure other users (like the out of touch 50 somethings presenting at last weeks keynote) can appreciate it.

I'll buy whenever Apple offers a Retina laptop with 10nm Intel CPU and DDR4, and doesn't price the 512GB SSD like it's made out of unicorn cr*p.
Until then, I'm probably entering the Apple Store for a battery replacement on my 2013 Air.

Since Apple don't seem to fully understand the word Pro anymore, how about they introduce a Macbook Extreme , where performance and connectivity takes priority over thinness and battery life leaving older ports on too such as ethernet, USB - A and HDMI. So Macbook (Normal users), Macbook Pro (Office workers), Macbook Extreme (old Pro users) , giving them back the good, better, best lineup.

Still hoping for a massive drop in SSD upgrade in the Macs...

I'd like 2Tb to be a lot more affordable than it is right now.

Until such time, I'll be hitting the Black Friday sales for some new 2.5" SSDs for my existing 2012 cMBP 15".

Anyone had experience with RAID 0 SSDs in the cMBP?
I've been running two Samsung 512 Pro's in my mid 2012 MBP. I've even set up two external HDDs in Raid 0 for TimeMachine Backup because I couldn't stand the 70MBs-ish Read/Write speeds. No problems so far. But actually I don't really know if this is necessary. I just did it because I could. Unsure about the benefits…

Well that was quick :p If they lower the price they will have to do it across all their lineup, because I think that the Macbook 12' is worse value than MBP. So is intel now releasing two generations per year (Cannon Lake and Coffee Lake) or what?

Apple is doing only **** lately.
Maybe the old dinosaurs like Schiller, Cook and Cue need to be replaced by younger people! It really hurts Apple...

A pointless article implying Apple is rapidly changing course as this is all pure speculation about the second half of next year.

Cool....

Great timing to do this next year after all of your customers left and bought other laptops

Apple is being really stupid this year
.
.

But they won't. Point is if you need a powerful laptop it's likely for work and spending this kind of money on a work tool is firstly not a lot of money and tax deductible over 3 years in most countries.

The other thing of course is resale. Macs all have great, fantastically great resale value. I've just sold a 2 year old macbook for 70% of what I paid for it. This is partly down to the fact you can actually get part fro a Mac 6 years down the line... most PCs are obsolesced after 3 years and you have to rely on eBay which is hard as they make so many models.

And of course why on earth would someone who has used a macbook ever go back to a Windsows Dell.

I'll buy a new MBP 15" when I need one. I could keep looking forwards forever what the future will bring, but any MBP 15" will allow me to do my job. Right now my mid-2010 HiRes 15" MBP is still acceptable - although the discrete graphics cause some occasional problems. When it brakes beyond affordable repair, I'll just buy a new one. When MacRumours says "don't buy" or maybe even "caution" I'll be tempted to buy a temporary second-hand. Otherwise I'll buy the current new one (if my bank acccount says yes, that is).

For you, they will spray-paint an old 2012 MBP and an Apple lackey will deliver it personally to your house!

while this sounds kinda funny at first, in reality the maxxed out 2012 book STILL is a competitor for the latest macbooks performance-wise and a real option for some users. It seems there is a bunch of people who thinks similar to me, as it reflects in the aftermarket prices for the mid-2012 hires models. the prices on ebay Germany for a *used* hires 2012 15" macbooks were incredibly high last year, they were sold on ebay for the same prices as new.

... my main production machine in fact is that "old" MBP mid-2012 15", has 1.5 TB flash storage (raid-0 for double speed gives you ~1GB/sec), quadcore i7 2.6, 16 GB RAM so it's just like 15-20% slower than the high end macbooks you can buy today. i was extremely lucky and got mine for just 950 euros last year, condition like new (23 battery cycles only!), invested ~400 eur for ram and additional ssd storage. the hires display is non-glossy which for me is better than the retina mirrors they are selling right now. i know this won't work for photographers etc, but for me and my coding stuff i prefer the matte display.

yes, that machine is bulky compared to the latest macbooks, but guess what: for 95% of the day i don't care, it works perfectly, has a real keyboard and many ports, too. the touchpad is marginally better than the newer ones with glass, and it even has magsafe. ^^ sure it's non-retina which is a show-stopper for many users (i'm perfectly aware of that), but the hires display is perfectly fine for some use cases like coding. having a retina display would imply having a glossy display, that's a high tax for people like me - even if the newer retina displays have become less reflective (which i highly appreciate).

So in my eyes a maxx'd out 2012 cMBP 15" hires machine STILL compares pretty well performance-wise to the latest macbook which is sold for EUR 4999. - This is a matter of fact, and there's no need to make fun of it. Actually, in fact it's rather sad than funny.

p.s. I also do own a 13" retina book (late 2013) and it's a lovely machine. i truly like the form factor, but the performance just can't compete with my good old mid-2012 book. - if it was up to me, i'd vote for a quad-core i7 13" retina macbook with 32 gigs of ram, 2tb ssd, magsafe, real ports, a real keyboard. knowingly at the cost of weight and possibly battery life. for sure, i'd not spend more than 3500 eur for that. and: i won't spend 4999 euros for that new "high end" macbook, i'd rather buy a 4TB ssd for my mid-2012 book. and, unfortunately we have to say this in here to all blind fanboys: i could afford the 4999 euros for the "high-end" model, but it's just plain stupid to spend so much money on such a medium spec machine, so please don't even dare to start telling me i'm a whiner because i couldn't afford it. that kind of "argumentation" has been showing up multiple times in the forum here, and IMHO that's just showing how narrow-minded some are ...

Guys, I officially speculate that Tim Crook will, after stealing everyone's Christmas this, grow a heart and give everyone MacBook Pros next year. Can I be on the front page?

Oh and hell has frozen over

If you always keep chasing technology, you'll never catch up. By mid-2017 there will be another excuse for people to wait another year.

I edit video on a 2012 rMBP with 8GB RAM and it runs smooth as butter, for me 16GB RAM with the 4GB Pro 460 is enough.

Finally, I always buy a new machine as soon as the new gen is launched. That helps me amortize its cost until the next gen is launched.

Next year is the year apple is going to make all your wildest dreams come true

Seems that way if you believe the pipedreams published here, but under the current management at Apple, I seriously doubt it. Okay, they may come up with a few new emoji's that are more socially correct, and they may well bring the 'Breathing App' over to the new MacBook Pro, and we will all cheer!

been doing raid 0 ssd since macbook pro early 2011. on most 2011 models the second SATA controller only gives you 3GBit but works well. for the 2012 models you will have full 6GBit on both drives.

TL;DR: works well, didn't have any issues. i'm on cMBP hi-res 15" mid-2012, too.
