Yet... it's still terrible. My M11x I had it turned down ALL the way down on palm check sensitivity and it would stil click and move and zoom in/out. Multitouch worked fine but the palm check via synaptics did not really work. Even my backup machine right now a crappy Inspiron 1501 with the TINY trackpad still gets screwy and I start typing mid sentence elsewhere due to fail palm check. Rarely an issue on previous MB's.

IF and only IF this rumour is true, at 16GB there will be a good chance IMO of it being soldered direct. This brings massive issues if it goes wrong, yet more non user replaceable parts.
Whats wrong with 2 drive bays one for a ssd even if its only 64GB, of decent quality. 2nd can be a larger standard drive for data, obviously ditching the ODD.
I hate the idea of blade ssd's or even worse soldered direct, just makes for less choice, and harder repairs

Given I've owned Mac's since 1985 (yes, 85), have only sent my Mac in once for any repairs (1998 time frame), and my current MBP is over 4 years old with no issues... I'm not too worried about it.

Not an issue for me... it sounds cool and a low risk part to break.

Really when was the last time they had a media event for new Macs? I mean I know nothing truly different has come along lately, but they really have gotten away from that since leaving MacWorld. That was where they usually did a lot of those things.

I guess they don't really need to anymore though. They're not the underdog they once were.

The new MacBook Airs got a media event. I think it's not uncommon for Apple to do a media event when there is a major update to one of the Mac lineups. That said, it has happened before where they don't hold an event. There could many reasons why not to hold an event, but I suspect the main reason is that this update is not going to change the "look" of the MacBook Pro that much. It will probably have the same aluminum look (sorry but the liquidmetal rumors are complete BS), just be a bit thinner, and have some small cosmetic changes here and there (larger trackpad, thinner display casing, etc).

Basically this will be a big update, but not a major shift in the way the MacBook Pro looks.

Wouldn't there be a press event if it were anything really significant? Especially a totally new body? It just seems, without a press event, that this is going to be the typical processor and graphics bump, but not a major remodel. Maybe I'm just afraid of getting my hopes up too high.

This just keeps getting better. My ThinkPad just died after 3 years. And I was going to get the MBP 15" in April after I become fulltime at my new job. Now I can get the latest, YAY!

I hope they drop the optical drive because it's no use for me. I already have an external Sony USB drive that should work, if not it's ok. I have 3 PCs in the house with drives that I can rip and copy to ISO. If I'm traveling and I need it I'll be SOL if I need to use a disc. This is a good option for those who can't live without optical. Copy all your needed discs to ISO.

I like bluray but I don't like discs. I convert my blurays to MKV and then play them from my HDDs. I convert the blurays to 8gb so it doesn't take as much space. I got 6TB worth of movies! :)

They can still do some changes without changing the look too much. They can make it thinner, they can make the trackpad bigger, they can even change the way the display casing is. I suspect that the general "look" will be the same though. Definitely no liquidmetal or anything crazy like that.

Reading your posts, you're obviously here just to stir the pot.

Ignoring from here on out... others should do the same.

Ciao Windoze boy!

He probably is stirring the pot...but I have a PC and it's great.
I'm switching to a Mac so I'll be a Pro with both systems and the hardware on Macs definitely lasts longer. But don't call someone out for being "poor" or other BS because Apple overcharges like a Mofo and unless your rich and buying all of this stuff they're definitely ripping a lot of people off.

Here you go lads...

The hardware on macs is cheap crap, really i have had my thinkpad for 6 years and it boots like a charm.

I put him on ignore, he has not contributed a single bit to this discussion, not in the slightest.

You are right that there is nothing wrong with owning a PC and there is nothing wrong with not owning a Mac, however this is MacRumors and so inciting a flamewar is uncalled for. There is no reason to debate whether Apple products are too expensive either, because the evidence points both ways. It is not the specs that you pay for, it is the whole package, and that is something that most people don't seem to understand.

Where did I call anyone poor? I'm okay if you or anyone wants to buy a PC... I'm just not a fan of them. I don't think Apple "rips" people off either. You get a quality product, that is well supported, and will last a long time with little to no issue. I think once you have your Mac you'll see what I mean.

Either way... I hope you enjoy it. :)

all these rumors its hard to keep track i wish someone would post a picture..even if it was of those sealed boxes just to know if they are there

i'm liking this idea of ssd with os and apps. should be fast as hell! too bad my mbp is working fine tho.

(and i hope they got rid of the optical drive... waste of precious battery space.)

k first of all I have found your posts very explicit and offensive.

second. When I hear someone say that Macs are overpriced, that automatically tells me that this person doesn't really know much about computers or what they are talking about

im shootin for a complete revamp with liquid metal but im tryin not to get my hopes up that much....Assuming that it is merely a minor spec bump or a slight redesign such as one closer resembling the air that still holds true to the current aluminium color scheme, how long do you guys think it will be for the start of a true revamp of the entire mac line to liquid metal?

All this hoo-ha about liquidmetal....

I wonder if the new, larger trackpad will be made from, instead of glass, liquid metal?

liquid metal is, afterall, amorphous and so one would expect it to have the same properties as glass, albeit with better conductivity due to the free electrons.

Does this sound plausible or crazy? I'm not 100% familiar with the physical properties of liquid metal but it would make sense and create a more flush macbook pro appearance, no?
