@Eitrig
I challenge you to find me a laptop that is as powerful as the low end 13" MBP for a lesser price. It also has to follow a couple more things:
1) High quality casing
2) 10 hour battery or better
3) <1" thick
4) 4.5 pounds or less
5) 1280 x 800 screen or better
6) Multi-touch trackpad*

If you can do this, then I will forever praise you and consider you a God among men.

*As apple is the only company with a trackpad like this, the computer you find does not have to follow this one.

(Feeding the troll. Boo Yeah!)

this is what I am saying. i would say cross of #7 because thats not measurable

but add another point: must be 13" or less.

also at this point in time he might be able to find one since the macbook pro is apple's most dated product right now especially the 13inch.
but with any other apple computer except for the white macbook, or the macbooks after they update, he won't be able to find one

...Anyone got that arguing on the internet image from 2001? Seriously though, just make fun of the guy. You don't even have to come up with clever material. He basically writes it all for you :p

Sure it is. Just survey a sufficient number of people and ask them if they are happy with their customer service interactions. Which various entities do. And Apple is always at or near the top.

I'm not so sure I like these rumours, a 16GB SSD is too small especially if I want to use Bootcamp. And what if I want to install more applications but the SSD is already full? I would have to put it on the slower HDD. At least 32GB or 64GB is a more ideal size is there's a hybrid SSD/HDD drive or even better SSD only with something like 128GB or 256GB.

Is it bad that I don't know the difference between an i5 and i7?

Just a performance difference. All depends on what you need it for.
Most consumers who buy a Mac for trendiness don't even need the i3-they could get by with the core 2 duo. (At least until they run out of supplies).
i5 is a bit more powerful, and the i7 is the top level workhorse.

seeing as we get a little bit more info everyday im hoping well have even more tomorrow maybe that answer some questions

Even though I am a mac fan (and I don't even own one anymore...though that's changing soon) I actually think is is super funny and a little true. The ironic this is that it is Apple pushing professionals out of development on Apple computers because of iOS focus. But that's for a different thread and you're still a tool.

I think the whole, only spoiled and/or rich kids use Macs, is ridiculous. As I used to work at an Apple store, there was every different age/race/sex you could image.

Plus there is the image attached... which speaks volumes:

To stay on topic though... that'd be amazing if it had a mixed SSD/HDD. Maybe something like the Momentus, but I'm thinking the onboard memory like the Air but with an extra HDD. And here's to the death of optical drives!

I figured they were gonna incorporate some of the SSD of the air with the higher storage needs for pro users... COMBO DRIVE!

All the benefits and none of the draw backs. Apple will probably put highly used programs on the SSD for faster app launch too.

Im not planing to run the hadron supercollider anytime soon, but I am planning to go to Starbucks tomorrow. This has nothing to do with consumer electronics, as you cant go to best buy, pick a computer and connect it to the hadron supercollider, but I can go to bestbuy by buy a computer and go to Starbucks.

It's all moot. No scientist is going to use a machine they can't run tcsh on.

The first tidbit of information claims that the new MacBook Pros will offer larger trackpads than those found on current models, opening the door for greater flexibility for users and perhaps options for more complex gestures.

Why not just make the trackpad a mini iOS LCD+Digitizer Frankenstein ??

It could be a lower resolution, ......I'm fine with that.

iOS and OSX - Together, but in their own spots on the device.

Keep these coming. Seriously this discussion got boring after page 3...I'm glad to see it get a second wind. In all seriousness though...when is someone gonna break NDAs and get us something to sink our teeth in?

Maybe some people like to support the artists that they listen to and watch - therefore the price of a CD or DVD is like a cheap ticket to a concert or movie that they can visit again and again.

Would you try to sneak your brothers into a movie or a concert, or would you buy tickets?

When you buy a "CD" or "DVD" etc you're not paying for the plastic or for the 1s and 0s that make up the data on them, you're paying for the right to listen to that music privately. It's sort of like buying a license...

MP3s that you purchase are likewise just new licenses that you pay for to listen to artists' works.

Making copies of CDs that you've paid for for your family is not quite the same thing as stealing, I don't think.

There is not gonna be a media event unless the rumor of this Thursday is incorrect.

Assuming that this Thursday is correct (it seems likely) there could be many reasons why Apple would not want to hold an event.

1) It's Steve Jobs' Birthday, and he's not exactly at work enough to hold a press conference anyway. This means they would have to use someone else to do it, and that might look bad for shareholders who expect a healthy Steve Jobs.

2) The updates are major, but Apple chooses to not hold a media event because they realize that most of the people reporting on it will just be taking clips from the press release anyway. The media event is not easy to plan and setup, it's something that perhaps Apple has decided to cut back on (think about them pulling out of MacWorld).

3) The updates don't change the look too much. They could still make it thinner, still make a larger trackpad, even change the display up a bit, but the main "look" is still the same with the aluminum chassis.

Personally I think it's #3.

i don't disagree with you, however i do find it odd that they wouldn't hold a media event for a major update of the pros. i personally think they are gonna hold an event, which means that the pros aren't being released thursday. maybe tuesday of next week.

Can't wait. Hoping for more than a refresh. Still eager for iPad 2 too.. should prove to be an interesting year now that everyone is after Apple full boar!

I have a strong feeling we'll see a redesign. Happy 56th, Steve!

You hit the nail on the head...If I buy a CD and make 3 copies for my family members (not charging them of course) it's completely legal and ethical.

All this fanboy shi* is getting old. Grow up kids;)

W7 is a great OS that supports most HW under the sun...sorry folks, but even a spec'd out MP would get PWND by a similarly priced PC.

OSX+iLife is a much better computing experience than W7...and Apple's HW design is second to none (though its guts are pretty blase).

Pepsi or Coke folks...what do you like?

because supporting the most amount of hardware makes it the best experience for the consumer.....

no one can match Apples hardware
