The 13" macbook pro still uses a core 2 due a 320m graphics and costs $1400.
How can you say that is not over priced? also before you go about OSX AMG osx is just a rebrand of freebsd which apple uses and sells.
free bsd is well free as well.

Interesting rumor... It does seem to be inline with their vision to have everything go SSD, but to dedicate such a small fixed amount to that, not sure it makes sense. Guess we will see.

3 years ago me and my buddy both bought laptops...he got a MacPro and I went with an HP...He spent $2k and I spent $1,300.
The specs were identical...literally.
So I don't really understand why his costs $700 more...that's why I say that.

I'm just hoping this rumor is true. It will be like having a hybrid MacBook Air with a Pro. Fast start-up with power to boot.

if it is gonna be released thursday, shouldn't people be getting invitations to the event? if they don't get them by tomorrow, shouldn't that mean either the pros aren't going to be released thursday or theres not going to be a major update? even if the media gets the invites tomorow, that only gives them 2 days to prepare!
Macs are more than just specs. They are one of the best designed laptops. Sturdy, good quality parts, reliable and Mac OSX is really a treat once you learn the differences. Try to remove your Windows thinking... there are some differences... but don't buy Virus software.... waste of money on a Mac.
My HP has been great to me with Windows 7.
Fast, reliable...no garage band, but I don't make music so I could care less.
I can honestly say my computer has shut down less than 5 times in 3 years...and that was because I had WAY too much going on and was trying to burn a DVD...but other than that you could list all these tiny little specs that look better on paper, but unless your editing movies or something along those lines you really can't tell the difference.
why? The pent up nerd rage is such that Apple could release a box full of crumpled up news paper and people would go balls out trying to get their AMEX in hand to buy it. 'Sides, if we knew it was coming, we'd have nothing to talk about.

I bet Apple will finally allow you to install Apps separate from the OS. Home directory and Apps can be located on the traditional drive.

There is not gonna be a media event unless the rumor of this Thursday is incorrect.
Assuming that this Thursday is correct (it seems likely) there could be many reasons why Apple would not want to hold an event.
1) It's Steve Jobs' Birthday, and he's not exactly at work enough to hold a press conference anyway. This means they would have to use someone else to do it, and that might look bad for shareholders who expect a healthy Steve Jobs.
2) The updates are major, but Apple chooses to not hold a media event because they realize that most of the people reporting on it will just be taking clips from the press release anyway. The media event is not easy to plan and setup, it's something that perhaps Apple has decided to cut back on (think about them pulling out of MacWorld).
3) The updates don't change the look too much. They could still make it thinner, still make a larger trackpad, even change the display up a bit, but the main "look" is still the same with the aluminum chassis.
Personally I think it's #3.
Honestly I don't see any reason why couple of insults and offensive behaviour from some people should start a flamewar. If you don't like macs, or you are not fans of apple or not expecting MBP 2011...why in god's name have you come here in the first place? This is something I will never get. This site is called MACrumors... now grow up...and if you have nothing to add to this discussion close to the topic...then simply don't.

Maybe some people like to support the artists that they listen to and watch - therefore the price of a CD or DVD is like a cheap ticket to a concert or movie that they can visit again and again.
