Why is it that a lot of people would be happy to see the optical drive go? As the name suggests, a lot of people have this mbp for buisiness reasons. Hence the pro! We need riability. I for one often have to give my clients large files. How are all those other people doing this? Are you all giving away free usb-sticks to your clients???? No, please keep the optical drive. By the way, if the ssd becomes the ROOT folder (where the OS is installed), how are you planning to install the applicatipns that rely to be installed on the ROOT folder if it is this small?

I think it's funny how many people think they "know" what it will have. The truth is only a handful of people who work for apple know exactly what it will have and what it will look like. Everything else is speculation. Feel free to make predictions and express your desires, but stop claiming you are certain that that new MBP will have "x" feature. My hope is for SSD all the way, not some crappy 8-16Gb junk. I don't see why people are so content with a lesser item when apple could easily make the entire storage SSD (as seen on the MBA). I would love to see a refreshed look. If it happens, I'm sure it'll be good no matter what they put out. A larger trackpad seems like it would get in the way of typing, as pointed out by numerous people, so I don't think that would be a good idea. However, if it is larger, it'll probably be only a smidgen larger is my guess, as to avoid this, or there will be a major redesign of how things are laid out. I think the processor upgrade is a given. Blu-ray, would be awesome, but I'm extremely doubtful because 1) It would make pirating blu-rays way too easy for apple users and of course apple would rather you download their HD movies from iTunes 2) I think having a BR drive would be too expensive for them. I would love for my MBP to be lighter, so I'm definitely hoping for this. I need a portable machine with power, but I really hate that the thing hurts my back from lugging it around all day.

I agree about the ssd.

I will probably get an 2010 model if they go with some crappy 8-16gb flash solution.

I want to run professional apps of of it that already take 40-50gb to install and than scratch disks for Photoshop and other apps would take me easily to 100GB+.

Why would I want to go down from the current mbp 2008 that has an ssd in it?

I'm just afraid that is true and will get some crappy 8-16gb partition that will cause all kinds of issues and of course will take away one SATA port on the motherboard.

I really hope that if they go that route they allow a custom build without the ssd flash so that I can customize it with a reall ssd not some half baked solution.

So much BUZZ over what...just nothing.
Why you guys upgrading beside the point that your MBP is bad and cant be fix or is to old...?

Uh??? There's always "BUZZ" @ MR.

We're talking about an update to apple's best selling computer- even minor changes will generate lots of "BUZZ." Its what we do here.

For those of you curious what a MacBook Pro trackpad would look like if they made it larger.

I see no reason why they shouldn't use all that space they have. It is silly that they weren't already using that much!

The SSD + traditional spinning platter is a neat idea. Can't wait to see how the 13" spec would be.

+1

I disagree about the Magic Trackpad. I bought the thing, used it for a week and returned it because I hated every minute of it. It's finger tracking ability was extremely poor, it felt really awkward to use, and it was very uncomfortable. I like the magic mouse much much more, although it is also a bit uncomfortable with how flat it is.

Wow that is the complete opposite experience that myself and many others have had. You are definitely in the minority.

Well this looks great to me! :)

I think it's funny how many people think they "know" what it will have.
Some people think they know and others like their thinking to be known. At the end its all the same illusion so why worry about it? Just enjoy whatever is being released by Apple, no matter if you like it or not, and move on.

All of those features sound great, to me.

I hope, if true, they also come with a price decrease and longer battery. (Though admittedly, anything is better than my 2006-era MBP).

I can't see a price decrease if they're using SSD, even just for OSX.

ok so def big no for bigger trackpad as it will overlap w/ most people's hands when they type and it will just be a hassle.

Also, I vote "NO" (and I might be minority here) for ssd blade where end user cannot upgrade. As faster ssd will come out this year(and every year from now), getting unupgradable ssd sucks

Still wondering why people are happy about this? I was excited about the refresh just hours ago, but if this holds true I will be concidering keeping my 2008 MBP for another year.

Just over an hour since this was posted and already over 170+ post replies... love it!

Gonna have to change my sig though  CINC House (for those in the know!) made me get a couple of thousand dollars in new kitchen appliances this weekend! Stainless steel too... at least I could make believe I'm looking at a giant MBP every I glance at the frige!

Nail on head

I wonder why Apple didn't go for this technology in 2006 when Intel was making a big fuss about it. ;) It could have been perfect way to get some additional buyers.

Still, a great improvement for Mac OS X that simply flies on SSD and hybrid drive.

So the new PRO's come with a build-in flash drive to boot up the OS. Remember 'Back to the Mac'? Sounds like the hw is being prepared for Lion. If iOS and OSX are to be more unified than having the OS in flash memory is a logical next step. Technically it is already pretty simple to boot OSX from a USB flashdrive and run all apps from a network share. And you don't even need a Mac to do that

Well said.

Now I'm convinced that the new MacBook Pros need an event, like a keynote. Having a dedicated SSD for OSX is just an excelente idea!
