Since Leopard was "officially" announced to be coming on the 26th, do you guys still expect a MB update? I would've thought that any update to the MB would have been also announced the same day?

In the past have they made a big deal of updating the MB, like in a press conference or do they just show up on the online store one day?
The thread title says November and I agree.

I only expect a page update with new, faster MacBooks.

It is "by" November mhich would suggest that we are still yet to get the update soon. I'm agonisingly close to buying the Macbook within the next week or so.

I am ready to order NOW. I want a Macbook (will be my first Mac). However, if there is a minor redesign coming, I want to wait. I am not concerned about a bump up in speed, I think the current 2.16 will be fast enough for me. However, if they are going to upgrade the casing to aluminum, I want to wait.

On the other hand, I don't want to wait too much longer. I have been holding off for Leopard to be announced for release.

I would like to order a MB before the release of Leopard so that I can use Tiger until I see for certain that Leopard is running bug free before installing. And it will only be $9.99 to upgrade to Leopard. I won't mind at all paying the $10 to upgrade.

I'd keep waiting.

I've been looking at hardware releases for a gaming rig in addition to a MacBook and Thanksgiving looks like the best time for me.

I am guessing existing MacBook stocks could drive the release date between the first and third weeks of November. I would expect Apple wants Leopard-powered new MacBooks in the (Apple) stores by "Black Friday" to take advantage of the early rush of XMAS buying.

Why wouldn't apple announce that an upgrade was coming if it is less than 3 weeks away?

To sell existing stock?

I have to say, I am going to have a real hard time waiting. I have been waiting for months. The current MB will do everything I want it to do. But I would like a different case on the MB. Do you guys think a new case will be announced, or just internal upgrades?

All the Apple notebooks are starting to look pretty familiar. There's been nothing new in quite a while. Of course that's probably because the designs are so good.

Still, I hope something shows up soon that will tempt me to upgrade from my original MacBook Pro Core Duo 2.0GHz. I've upgraded the drive a couple of times (currently at 250GB) but the latest MacBook Pro, at 2.4GHz, just isn't different enough from what I already have to tempt me to buy. I wonder what it would take? Maybe if they made it 2 lbs lighter? Run 50 degrees cooler? Change the case/chassis to make hardware upgrades easier? Make it out of some magical material that airport screeners can see through my carry-on -- the same way they can see every other electronic device I carry? Multi-touch screen? Solid-state boot drive?

Im with you on that one. I (literally) just crazy glued part of the plastic on the side of my MB and just do not like the way this plastic feels. My old iBook had a much better feel to it and was sturdier. If they announce MB's with an aluminum case, I'm getting one. Otherwise, I'm grabbing a MBP because I dont want to have to worry about cracking plastic or yellowing palmrests. (I also think the backlit keyboard is VERY cool!!!)

I guess I have an antipodal opinion, in that I'm hoping for Santa Rosa but I kind of like the plastic case.

At least I think I do. I've never had one, but I'm not crazy about the aluminum case of my powerbook G4.

have to agree...once the publicity and general buzz of the leopard release date dies down a bit (and existing stock falls), the :apple:store will go down, we'll have a new SR X3100 MB we've been waiting for and :apple: will get yet more pre-holiday media exposure :)

Just tell me where you get your technical figures (the 99% bit) from (cite your sources) and I'll gladly leave it be. What study shows that 99% of people don't upgrade or buy new computers because they believe their current computer is good enough based on having NO knowledge about what's inside it? Sorry, but I have to call the BS card on this one.

You can call BS all you want. I really dont give a crap. Im not citing any "study", and Im not saying people dont buy new computers. What I AM saying is that people buy new computers when they dont need to (due to spyware and the general slowdown of the Windows OS over time) and 99% of customers just believe what the guy at Best Buy tells them. Where do I get that 99% from? Everywhere. I work for a large bank (over 10,000 people in my building alone) and most of the people that I know there just know how to run a few programs, and on their home PC's they just surf the web, email, and so on. I also used to work at Costco in the electronics department (they referred to it as "Majors") and about 1 out of every 100 customers looking at new computers had a clue about the technical specs. The rest just asked questions like "whats the difference between this one for $987.00 and the one for $1299.00?"

I'm done trying to explain this, but the last thing I will say is this: If everyone is so damn tech savvy, why does "Geek Squad" and the like stay so busy? Why are tech consultants/support people in such high demand?

Ya know... this should really be a poll thread.

Here's my line up for November

Q6600/Phenom Quad + 8800 GT/HD2950 Pro in a Minitower.

I believe nvidia is going to release a new 8800gts with more shader units.
But I don't believe the hd2950 will be up to nvidia, since it will a 256bit memory interface and sounds like it's going to take the x1950pro place. We'll wait and see.

Q6600 sound better, since phenoms will be expensive as hell. We already know the Q6600 reach huge clocks, and phenom...even if it is 25% faster clock for clock.

I'm not spending more then ~$200 for my video card.

Anything you buy will be "obsolete" in 6 months. Buy the damn MacBook now and get on with your life.

It's still a good idea to wait to get the best value for the time being. It's rather late in the game for a MacBook when it just screams update around the corner.

Like I said, the HD2950 Pro or the 8800GT fall near that price.

I never said the 8800 GTS.

Well, the price will be around 250 for the hd2950, so I said 8800gts which is the same. and the 8800gt will be between the 8800gts and the 8600gts, so price performance "nvidia wise", the 8800gts will still be the winner (just speculating here :))

The HD 2950 Pro is set to be priced between $199-249 depending on the model and amount of video RAM.

As far as I'm concerned there's much more value in buying a MacBook now & getting 2 operating systems for the price of one, then waiting around for a rumored update that might or might not happen.

I will anything to get rid of my MacBook. I can't stand it. The plastic is already chipping away and the palmrests look like crap...I wash my hands before I use my computer and the whole top part is a different color. The graphics card sucks, it constantly freezes (I have re-installed now 3 times). I just got this for free(from Apple) about 1 month ago and I can't wait to sell it and move to a MBP.

If you don't need the MacBook immediately then you don't need it.

I don't see a need to spend money on Leopard separately if you know your machine is going to ship with it.

How capable do you think the current or rumored slightly updated macbooks will be with running leopard? I am weary that they won't be able to handle all of the visual features of leopard due to the weak integrated graphics processor. Anyone think they will be capable of running the visual effects of leopard just fine? I really want a macbook because of the portability, and I no longer play games, only photoshop and office programs. I am just afraid to switch from my 17" notebook with an nvidia 7800gtx go, 2ghz (single core), 2gb ram for something that will be sluggish with all of the tasks that I am used to performing.
