so..do you all think the prices will go up?

It has been Apple's general policy that minor refreshes (and an X3100 and speed bump kind of classifies as one) do not see a price increase.

If the MacBook adds an nVidia or ATI GPU and a CPU closer to 2.8GHz, then a price increase would be warranted, but as this would impact near-term MBP sales, it is unlikely to happen.

A 2.2 or a 2.4ghz?

I believe it was a 2.4, but I'm not sure. I checked his mac to see his specs but I didn't take note to remember really, because I'm getting just a MB. MBP is too much $$$ for moi.

You're not alone my friend! I'm in the same boat as you. I want a laptop that will have a long lifetime (up to 5 years) while remaining portable and am afraid the upcoming macbook won't be enough. :( Still, I could maybe update sooner than that...

Same here :(
If i bought a MacBook, I would be using it for atleast another 4-5 years.
It honestly bothers me how much even the SR GPU sucks.
I'm not an extreme gamer, but if the macbook cant even run a simple game like CS:Source, I dont think its a good time for me to get one.

Well, any laptop can have a long lifetime (my mom still has a G4 iBook that is almost 5 years old now, and it is still suitable for word processing, etc.).

But when you're talking about 5 year timeframes, any laptop you buy is going to be very outdated in that timeframe. Even if you bought the $2499 MacBook Pro, if your expectation is for it to handle everything you could throw at it in 2012, that is just a bit much.

It all depends on what you mean by "lifetime" though, really. Plenty of people still use machines that are 5-10 years old, but you don't expect to necessarily be able to easily run the latest OS and software.

"sucks" all depends on what something is being used for.

The integrated graphics processors, whether it's a GMA950 or GMAX3100, are designed to offer some basic graphics capabilities, but more importantly to get excellent battery life.

If your priority is gaming, then a machine with integrated graphics doesn't make sense.

But people sometimes actually do specifically choose machines with integrated graphics because of the benefits in battery life, etc.

thats why sony vaios have that "switch".... i brilliant idea in my opinion...
sadly for me, seems MBs are not going to have dedicated GPUs :(

Some people are claiming that this tues or next tues would only be so much of an update to the macbook then the aluminum casing would be later in early 08. This makes no sense, right? They wouldn't update the macbook twice within a few months AND take away from the MBP updates. Hellll no son.
