Will you be waiting for the fabled November 6th updates?

Multimedia would sure be telling you to do so ;)

Yes, I definitely will be; however, if that update doesn't look like it's going to be coming anytime soon (i.e. Nov. 6th or earlier), I may be forced to look elsewhere for an up-to-date notebook. I am convinced though that Apple will be wanting to get their best-selling computer line nice and updated before the holiday season. This includes american Thanksgiving (Nov. 22nd). And Apple needs some time to get production volume up before the holidays as well. One more thing, is Intel still producing the Napa chipset? If not Apple is going to have to update when their stock nears depletion. I guess this also goes for the Mini, which apparently is headed for guillotine.

I'm wanting a major mass reduction. X3100 is fine. The MBP class of machine is just too heavy for everyday use, and for what I'd want to do on a Mac for personal use an X3100 / 2.2 should take care of most stuff. But it'd have to be well under 2Kg for me to consider it. Samsung can do it, so it's not in the impossible domain.

That'd be the current Macbook then, you can't get OS X on any old Thinkpad ;)

I agree wholly, partly because I want one myself!

Sorry, I'm not sure about this one, it's not exactly new though is it.

Not so much guillotine, more Liposuction :)

True, but have you also seen how ugly they managed to make those laptops? ;)

Leopard is cruising nicely on my 1st gen MacBook, so I intend to wait a bit even if all the goodies ship next month with the new version as I would like to see where the MBP updates land.

That being said, those goodies shipping will weigh positive when I compare it to the next MBP. I know the MBP will be superior, but I do not ask a great deal of my laptop, so cost is a major factor...

So I finally decided to pull the trigger and switch over to a Mac! Years of frustration with PC vendors and Win-turds have left me excited to start using OS X.

One problem though... that was about 12 months ago, and I have yet to purchase a Macbook. Why? The waiting game. Leopard, a stupid phone (who cares about a phone?) (actually it is super-dope), and the crazy apple rumor-mill. Now that Leopard is out there're whisperings in the wind of a Macbook update. Will it be a minor speedbump, or a change in form? Plastic or aluminum? Upgraded graphics? Will a new and improved version of the new and improved version be released three months after the update? Will Steve Jobs ever change his shirt?

SHAME ON YOU STEVE JOBS FOR PUSHING THE INDUSTRY FORWARD AND SPEARHEADING INNOVATION.... for I am a penniless college student who needs the most bang for his buck... whose Dell Inspiron 8100 circa 2001, while lacking functioning speakers or headphone jack, disc scratching DVD drive that which the tray refuses to open without a "jiggle-of-the-handle", and impressive 24 minute DUAL BATTERY performance, continues to limp on and function as a word processor and interweb (you know, the one with the e-mail) browser thus not immanently requiring a new machine, though it surely would be a marvelous upgrade.

And so I wait.

True to an extent - they're not that ugly, but have you also had one of them, compared the two directly and seen how their last-model Q's lasted an hour more than the MB, weighed a pound less, got less hot and generally ran better?

Seems like just one win-turd. Which has lasted you 6 years. Not much of a sampling for an opinion, if you ask me - but a pretty common Apple convert, seems like.

I tried some out in PC World, for about half an hour, that's the extent of my knowledge of them
Good battery life, I admit.
I haven't a clue what a pound is, I'm guessing weight, which doesn't help at all: metric, mate.
True, the Macbooks run hot but we like to push them as far as we can :)
And I'm not sure I could agree with the last statement.

GMA3100 .kext in Leopard

FYI-
As pointed out last night in irc, if you look in the /System/Library/Extensions directory in Leopard you'll see not only "AppleIntelGMA950.kext", but you'll also see "AppleIntelGMA3100.kext".
This leads people to believe that the Santa Rosa based Macbook (and/or MacMini) will be out decently soon, otherwise why would the kext make it's way in Leopard so soon?

Quote"late stages of QA/field-beta testing revisions to the Mac Pro, Xserve, Mini/Nano, and Macbook. Add in this week's release of Mac OS X 10.5 and things are really moving quickly in Cupertino.....so expect a lot of exciting updates in the coming days!"

Seems the MB updated will be soon

I love you can we make isex ?

One thing I noticed was that the MacBook had 3GB of RAM (as did the iMacs and MBP's at the Apple Store).

-Zadillo

3 gig ram in a MB in apple store?? thats NOT fair! they recommend 2 gigs and i know people ask twice in this group before putting 3 gig in their own machines :p

Okay, so I had decided to wait for Leopard to be pre installed before I purchased an MB, now I am waiting for the 6th, rumored dated. But tonight I tes drove my friends 15" MBP and wow. So fast. Responsive. Just amazing. Not like this glitchy POS Toshiba I ahve now which is ultra slow, though I do run a bunch with 512 and he had 2 gigs lol. anyway, im just realy pumped for my MB purchase. and Leopard. His Tiger is fast, if Leopard is faster, then I'm boggled more people dont make the switch. I am going to recruit everyonbe for AAPL!!
