Steve Jobs probably had a "one more thing" line where he was going to introduce the new notebooks, but was distracted by Jack Johnson's dreamy eyes.

 You all know what must be done!

*grabs pitchforks and torches*

Follow me friends! To JACK JOHNSON'S house!!!

I emailed 5 apple stores in The Netherlands, i asked if they know anything about the update, if they would advise me to buy one now and when they expect it.

I hope so too, but I doubt apple inc., would leak info like that to local stores. They know how many internet-happy kids work as genuises, and the rumour would spread within seconds across the world.

When the iPods nano were anounced, they were available in Apple stores a couple of days after. I don't see why it should be different with laptops.

I didn't say it would take 4 months after an announcement, I said a couple of weeks. Since we don't know when they're coming....if you want to "wait" you could be waiting for 4 months.

Would be pretty horrendous if they left it till MacWorld.

Now, don't get mad at me. This is absolutely not directed at you personally.

This is directed at all of the laptop crowd:

NOW YOU KNOW HOW THE MAC PRO USERS FEEL. Who are you to whine about updates; laptops get them the most frequently.

While we trudge through a year and a half without so much as a speed bump, the laptops are updated three to four times in the same period.

Summary: Cut the crap and stop whining until the updates come out... because we all know that we'll be whining even more then.

Besides, if they get left until MacWorld 2009, Yixian, newer mobile cards will have an opportunity to come out by then. Heck, instead of a 9650M GT, we could see an ATI 4850M or something along those lines. Better! Yay, right?

I've got the feeling that if Apple does update the laptops in Oct then it will only be a minor speed bump, possibly a small jump in RAM, boost HD capacity and perhaps an updated GPU from nVidia whereas if they wait to Jan it could be a complete overhaul. Doubtful we'll see both.

Let the whining commence...

I'd agree if I didn't have to angle my magsafe adapter with my hand constantly just to keep my laptop from powering down. It's also kind of a bummer to have laptop battery with about 20 minutes run time when 100% charged. I could get those things fixed probably but I'm past warranty so it'd cost quite a bit :(

A 4850 would be smex but I genuinely need a new MBP now in time for uni.. next Monday..

Of alle the stores i emailed, none of them know if i should wait or not, they only know as much as we know, so only the rumors. Bottomline, they dont know when it will come and if they should advise me to get one now.

Why are people expecting any different?

(Besides wishful thinking of course).

Because the nVidia failures keep happening and they (Apple customers) want to believe Apple will offer a future solution free of uncertainly.

While this may be "wishful thinking", people need to believe things will get better. The fact most people have no problems with their MBP doesn't mitigate the fact a serious problem exists with a nVidia mobile component and current and potential customers would like to see something else in the next MBP.

Cheers,

At least the Mac Pro may be predictable in the future.

I'm expecting a new GPU (not a spec bump) on the upcoming MacBook Pros.

Cheers,

I'm on your side. I'd leave work early to get a new MBP today if it was released. But current/potential customers will most likely have to wait till '09. An unveiling of a major overhaul of notebooks at MWSF would seem intuitive at this point.

But again, I hope I"m wrong!!!!:p

Split books

Hi
As you can see I m a newbie ,but I'm browsing the formus for quite a while now and I have to admit , it's addictive , so I thought it was about time to join in ;) ..so sorry if my first post is a bit looooong ;)

As so many others , I'm also waiting for the new macbook pro revisions to arrive (to damn long if you as me but i don't want to buy the current form factor for different reasons).

Just a guess :
Could it be that we will see new macbooks around october/november and new macbook pros (and mac pro) at Macworld ?
Why ? ...well :
While looking at the macbook(and pro) update pattern in the last couple of years , I noticed that Apple always updated the Macbooks before the macbook pro !

Having 2 complete notebook formfactor revisions at the same time or event just seems too much !

But than again ....it's just a guess !

That's a reasonable statement.

On the other hand, Apple could release them early so they have room for more significant products at MWSF 2009. They've (apparently) done this before on a lesser scale with WWDC 2007 and MWSF 2008.

Hi and welcome!

A staggered release is not out of the question.

I would consider one redesign not enough for an event unless there is major software (iLife, iWork) unveiled at that event. So I would say an event could easily contain two redesigns and small software (like glass trackpad functionality).

Ahhh I hope it will be a major overhual though! :) But that would definitely not be possible for Oct. haha
