By the way lets say -> IF there is a new macbook pro soon (around september - october) is it possible that Apple would "upgrade" this version in January @ Macworld?
Penryn CPUs are to be speedbumped 133 MHz in Q1 2009, so a small update around Macworld is possible.

So maybe its better to wait till January? Macworld = biggest Bang for Apple, isn't it?
Macworld generally isn't for updated Macs. It's for new or highly revamped Macs.

And it is strange to see that they are selling a MBP w/ 500GB HDD and 3-year AppleCare - they probably upgraded HDD themselves since 500GB is not available from Apple, thus voiding AppleCare? Or am I just overthinking this?
Maybe the new notebooks will have a 500 GB HD option?

I'm not sure how reliable this source is. Is it authroized Apple reseller?

They say on their site they are "Not affiliated with Apple"

Which might allow them to mention an update? They obviously have a source for Macs, perhaps this source told them?

hello everyone,
my first post here :)
i`m also waiting for an update of MBP to buy one
and i`m as excited about the updates as most of you are.
but i think it`s not the best idea to go crazy
while speculating about what apple might or might not do.
just wait :)

here are my thoughts on MBP update :
i think it doesn`t make sense for apple to
completely redesign the mbp for a little
"speed boost update". most likely, they
will have an event in the next 20-50 days (it doesn`t really matter when)
and bring out a minor update (maybe with
a slight case redesign).
then, by MWSF they will either introduce a completely new product or update the mac pro and the displays or maybe both.
then, by the time core i7 comes out for mobile devices, apple will hold a special event and introduce completely new macbook pros.

i think apple won`t make a redesign which will be good for only one year, until nehalem mobile is out.
they`ll most likely try to make a redesign in 2009 and stick to it for another 3-4 years.

that seems to be the most logical approach to me...of course its just speculation...
what do you all think?

Are you having a laugh ? , this is MacRumors , we are allowed to go completely bananas regarding updates , plus it's also a good bit of fun too:)

It does to me and one or two others on here ! , I agree though that I couldn't really see them updating the shell for a minor bump , but then again I don't think this will be a minor bump.

I've been on the phone to his Jobsness and he said the 9th ..or was that just the voices again  , either way if I have to wait longer than the 9th I'll be displeased to say the least ..I'm on a G3 and really could do with a new mini & a Macbook too but will not part with my hard earned for a machine with 2 year old specs , and will struggle to do so for a Macbook as updates are surely round the corner.

then, by MWSF they will either introduce a completely new product or update the mac pro and the displays or maybe both.

probable that something funky will happen at Macworld for sure

then, by the time core i7 comes out for mobile devices, apple will hold a special event and introduce completely new macbook pros.

Or maybe they have some chips on pre release like they did with the iMacs recently

I agree , a case redesign for only a year is doubtful but it would allow them time to iron out any bugs

Why is this not on the front page? If EVERY iPod nano case gets a front page story, shouldnt this?

It is a little curios .

I have submitted this thread & the link to the NZ website via the ' submit ' link on the forum front page , could be that the site being as busy as it is no one has noticed ?? then again it could be a wind up ??

and so I responded by saying that it is a little curios that is is not on the front page and that it may have been missed by the guys on here because the site here is so busy ..or it could be a wind up IE: a joke of some sort

And that I have submitted this thread via the submit a rumor link on the front page of macrumors to make sure that Arn is aware of this

clear now ?
:)

I just re read my post and tbh , what's not to understand ??

no worries man , I understand , I thought when I wrote "wind up " it may be a little too localized a phrase .

Alright everyone...I sent an email to that store:

And I got back an answer just now. All it said was "Yes, you should wait."

Not to rain on the parade, couldn't it be a possibility they just check out the forums and saw the 10,000 new MacBook threads? Even more so, that reply is given by our members to people asking the same question daily. I doubt that they are more credible than you or I.

What is ToshComputer's return policy?

If it is 30-days, I can understand them preferring not to sell a current MacBook / MacBook Pro because it is likely they will ship within that time and they'll be absorbing a number of returns as people bring their "old" model back and exchange it for a "new" model.

I do believe there will be an event that launches the MB and MBP together, but I do not believe it will be the 9th.

If it does end up being the "One More Thing" on the 9th, that implies to me this update is going to be very mild (just a basic spec bump?) since Apple's invitation is emphasizing the iTunes / iPod angle. They would not launch new form factors, new models (Tablet) or new styles (colors or Al MacBook) as a "one more thing" of an iPod event.

So according to you, pulling a MacBook Air out of a manilla envelope is a "spec bump"?

Possibly, but remember...they are a store. Why would they want to stop me from buying a computer? Think about that...

I side with you. Not only are you 100% correct (store would want you to buy no matter what, normally), but I hate it when people do nothing but post "oh you shouldn't have posted, this has been brought up so many times, yah da yah da yah da... You are wrong.... blah blah blah". Its always the same. People get shot down. I thought these forums were supposed to be a place to receive help, not criticism for having a little excitement/need.

OK, I hope someone is going to see this because I'm posting this question here so I don't get yelled at for starting a new thread. But:

Someone said something about MacWorld. So, if it is "for new macs", then is it possible to release something better than the MacBook Pro? I mean, I really really want the MacBook pro, because it is possibly the best looking and performing laptop on the market, plus its Apple, but should I wait until MacWorld to see if there will be something better? I can't imagine something better than the MacBook Pro... And the MacBook Air isn't one of my favorites (most expensive sub-notebook on market). So, should I just get the new MacBook Pro when it comes out and be happy, or should I wait for MacWorld? I am one of those people that likes to have the newest and greatest things.

If you're in the market for a MacBook Pro, then wait until the new one comes out on Tuesday and buy it. Nothing will come out at MacWorld that compares to the MacBook Pro. It is a "professional" notebook. Apple will probably release a MacBook Tablet, or something like that. If you want to buy something like that, then there is no reason for you to be in the market for a MBP. Apple will not release ANOTHER professional computer; they have the MBP and Mac Pro for that.

OK.. Thanks for the advise. I am not thrilled about a tablet PC either. Not because I don't think it will be the most innovative piece of technology that Apple will come out with, but because I like having tactile options for control (track pad, mouse, keyboard, etc.) Touch is nice, but Not on the screen that you will have to constantly clean..
