Well, Lenovo started to use DisplayPort on some of their new notebooks. At least Apple should give us HDMI. And keyboard, hm... I wouldn't be surprised if they go for a unified keyboard look for all their notebooks (MacBook Air like).

But you are right, I am sure I will get disappointed one way or another. ;)

Good Gawd; no way we'd want the whole unit shipped all over the world. We air-ship nearly 500 drives each month to clients who want to upgrade their Macs, and we supply in 12 countries by airmail. Now, there is no need to buy drives from us to have them sent to the US, you can source those very easily locally. The newest 2.5" SATA drives are 500/5400 and 320/7200, and both seem very reliable. For 3.5" the largest is 1Tb still, for iMacs. When you check our prices, remember that these include the horrendous 12.5% GST/sales tax in New Zealand, and we do not have to charge that on sales overseas (that's why our Australian sales just about double each month...). When you upgrade, get a $20 or so external USB enclosure for the old drive, and voila, you end up with a back-up drive.

So if I'm correct , you offer a 12.5% discount on overseas shipping of products ? ......will/do you ship to the UK at all ? , if so how does it pan out with the warranty if something where to go wrong with the machine ?, could I go local to me or would have to ship it back to you ?also what would the shipping costs be to the UK?.

I'd like to buy from you guys , honesty I appreciate and would be happy to part with money to such an honest firm ..

clarify those details for me & I may well be buying my next two machines from your good self . I'm looking for a low end Mac ( an updated mini if it happens) and a notebook , probably the Macbook depending on what Apple release of course , but two machines either way ,1 desktop & 1 portable.

thanks

"A few days" in the now nearly 2-year life of a Macbook could very well be 10, 20, 30... Probably the hyper-excitement of some readers got the better of them. I am sure the iPod announcement will be wonderful and then we can all take a deep breath and get ready for the laptop revealing.

1. 12.5% is the GST content. To get the exact amount, divide the sales price by 9, and that is your GST (you wouldn't need to do that, though, as our ex-US pricing is lower even than that because we wouldn't have to freight the darn thing to New Zealand). Remember that in the UK you might be up for paying VAT, although that has never happened before. It might make more sense to support your local Apple dealer, and be fairer as well.
2. Yes, we ship worldwide. To Europe, we ship from our New York hub by DHL or International Express post (tracked).
3. All Apple warranties are global. It makes no difference where you buy and where you use, any local Apple Centre will support the unit.
4. Shipping costs for a macbook would be about $80.
5. For low-value units like Minis (people still buy those???) the economics of buying overseas might not work out.

If I may recommend something: You are much much better off to buy the stripped-down base unit locally and then buy AppleCare, RAM and drive from us. Costs only a few quid to ship, does not attract VAT for its low value and saves a bundle on Apple upgrade costs.

Cheers, Jens

It seems to be getting kinda late for the usual statements from various well-known mac-pundits that there will also be a new MB/MPB announced at the iPod event.

And anyway, if they were going to announce new (not just "speed bumped") notebook models, they'd probably have a "notebook event" -- not just an "iPod event".

I want a replacement for my 2.5 year old MBP, but I don't think it's coming in the next four days.

A new alum. macbook would get alot of attention and alot of money if they would get off their tails and make one already.. the most popular laptop by apple that is being sold right now is the macbook... so alot of ppl would be interested in buying them and they would go along with the look of apple TV and the new iMac's so it is something to think about anyway....

<sigh>

I think i've got to agree.

The revision of the Macbook Pro and even the Macbook will be epic.

The Powerbook/Macbook pro design, while time tested, is roughly..what.. 8 years old.

Granted, I don't think they should change it. Major under the hood revisions, yes, but I see brand new late model top of the line HP's and Dell's that look insanely fugly.

But 8 years!?1!!

And we think Steve is gonna say "BTW, I know this is an iPod event and all, but here are the new Laptops"

Besides the massive loss of life thanks to the Audience spontaiously combusting due to sensory overload, the design of a new MB/P will send ripples through the entire industry.

I can believe that they have been saving up for something big and putting just as much research and development as they did in the TI and Al 'Books, but even if Apple's focus has shifted to a more or less teeny bopper consumer oriented front, a new, effective MB/P design will shake up the entire world (so I think).

I'd like to support my local but unfortunately local shopping in the UK has been a rip off for many years now .

Buying a Mini , I sure wont be until it gets an upgrade , love the thing to bits but two year old tech ,nah don't think so ...will wait for the refresh (if it ever comes , if not ...Linux desktop it is)

My ears are always open to recommendation and will look further into your upgrade prices , thanks ( definitely wouldn't have bought RAM / HD upgrades from Apple anyway - they are serious a rip off :) but yeah , I'll be checking the site soon .

thanks

Hi!

I decided to mail them and ask what they knew:

Hello!

My name is Oskar Nilsson and I was about to order a MacBook pro from you today when I found theis message on the page:

"Apple will release new Macbook Pro models in a few days, and we will list the new models here immediately. We no longer sell the existing models. We can source them for you if you need, but we recommend you wait for the new units. Many other Apple sellers in New Zealand will have inventory left of the old models, and there is probably the opportunity for a bargain. If you do purchase the base unit elsewhere, we recommend you get the RAM, Extended Warranty, Software and drive upgrade from us, to save money."

I really need a macbook pro within the next 10 days. Can you tell me more specific when this update will take place so I know if I sould get it from somewhere else?

Take Care!
Oskar Nilsson

I got a reply a few minutes ago:

Thanks for your inquiry. No, I cannot tell you the exact release date for
the new Apple laptop range. Best to continue monitoring macrumors and other
sites, i.e. Appleinsider, for details, and once released, usually on a
Tuesday in the US, you will see the specifics on all Apple store sites.

Regards,

Jens Mueller

So, they know as mush as we do. Bummer.

well, they will probably be out pretty soon anyway :)

Take Care everyone!

/ Oskar

mate , the good folk from Toshcomputers are already posting on THIS site !, see post above yours and look at the username ;)

does anyone bother to read other peoples comments any more

You will find the the most basic Macbook will be priced very competitively, and it might very well make sense to replace Mac Minis with Macbooks...

nope , was on the phone with steve a while back and he said the mini is getting all beefed up :D and real shiny

I dont know if that will be a factor but auburndale(dual core nehalem with built in graphics) which should be in next gen macbook will release only in jan 2010. That means that montevina update will last a long time. I dont know if Apple will hold off macbook update till Q1 2009.

Clarksfield which should be used in macbook pro will release in holiday 2009.
