One big thing (to me) that nobody has mentioned here yet is that there doesn't seem to be any haptic feedback, just Force Touch. Hopefully there's some feedback but it's most likely a physical click, if anything. I can't see Apple designing the trackpad without any feedback since that would be a horrible experience.

I was wondering the same but looking at the current write-ups for MacBooks and MacBook Pros that have haptic feedback, the description only boasts ForceTouch. I'm thinking ForceTouch is both - pressure sensitivity and feedback.

I'm guessing you're correct since I don't think any company would release a trackpad, or even a mouse, without any type of feedback when pressed/clicked. Still strange that 9to5mac called out the lack of haptic feedback, though.

EDIT: Looks like 9to5mac updated the article I linked and removed the text about lack of haptic feedback.

It's probably identical to the notebooks. Doesn't seem possible any other way.

I've been using one on the Macbook and it's a big improvement over the old ones. I have MBP without it and I keep pressing it. It's driving me crazy.

So i bought this. :)

i agree with the eyebrow raised at the insane price hikes for these new peripherals, luckily, i would only get them with a new mac. I am very disapointed that the keyboard does not have back lit keys, even my ipad air2 keyboard [belkin qode pro] has backlit keys, and they are fantastic.

Secondly, the new trackpad with force touch looks great, however, it is no longer free in substitution of a MM2 with a new mac, and at double the price of the old trackpad is daylight robbery. I have used the trackpads since when they came out, circa 2010, replacing the need for a mouse on my home workstation. A trackpad functions so much better for my needs. I really benefit from all the gestures as i have multiple windows open and need to scroll long documents.

Anyone know if the new Magic Keyboard will work with a PC w/BT 4.0? My current Apple Wired Keyboard works fine with my PC.

Was going to buy the New Magic Trackpad once I heard it was released but after seeing the price... no thanks. In no way I'm paying $129 for it.

Look at the Australian prices (tax included)

Magic Keyboard - $165
Magic Trackpad 2 - $199
Magic Mouse 2 - $129

Wow compared to our prices that's a steal even if that's without tax.

USD exchange rate increased for around 20% last year (due to the FED saying that they will increase the interest rate... but not actually raising it you know.)

I'm from Hong Kong (HK dollar is pegged to the USD) and the price here is HK$998 ~USD128 and there is no sales tax here. Maybe that's really a steal... but it used to be HK$518...still a 93% increase.

The $199 Australian at today's rates is roughly $143US. Take off 10% GST and you get roughly $179 Australian equals 129.30. Well there you go. $200 is a huge amount. But 10% sales tax and our terrible exchange rate are the reason of the very high price. Can't blame Apple here (apart from the initial $129 price).

The first trackpad was $99 here.

For me requiring Bluetooth 4 is a killer for me as I have a MBP 2011 which doesn't have Bluetooth 4. Well just saved some money.

I would feel more comfortable with the magic keyboard on the road, compared to the old one. It is lighter, smaller and i wouldnt have to worry about batteries. So maybe i could use it with an iPad and just charge it with the same charger. Seems neater.

The Swedish prices aren't much better...
Magic Keyboard - 135 USD
Magic Trackpad 2 - 172 USD
Magic Mouse 2 - 104 USD

The old ones:

Magic Keyboard - 78 USD
Magic Trackpad - 80 USD
Magic Mouse - 80 USD

Keyboard price nearly doubled, trackpad price more than doubled. They've gone full Gucci on the peripherals too. Maybe there'll be 18-Karat Editions of the Magic input devices with ivory keys so Kanye can tie 20 of them to his rear bumper and let PETA know his are dragging...

The magic mouse seems pretty neat and I like the extra gesture functionality, but I'm worried about the battery in the long run. If in 2 year of constant use the battery wear out am I going to have to buy a new mouse, or will I be able to get Apple to replace the batteries.

I was thinking about using it with the iPad Pro and my MacBook. Unfortunately the website says the keyboard requires a Mac with OS X, no word about other devices such as iOS or even Bootcamp Windows.

iPad Pro Smart Keyboard = $169, Magic Keyboard = $129...

Hmmm. As the ipad air 2 has bluetooth 4.0 I hope it works. Also I went into the Apple Store app and the magic keyboard is listed as an iPad accessory (see pic).

I was actually going to head to the Apple Store and buy them all. I've been waiting so long for a new keyboard! and I actually need one.

Then I saw the prices...

There's an unboxing for the keyboard & Trackpad 2 on YT.

spoiler: keyboard is smaller, trackpad is HUGE

I got the Magic Keyboard yesterday, and it works as a WIRED keyboard when plugged in (It disconnects from Bluetooth, and I can even turn Bluetooth off on my iMac and it continues to work).

You can't do that with the Magic Mouse because even if it did work, the Lightning cable goes into the bottom, anyway, so you wouldn't be able to use it and charge it. Looks like it gives a decent charge in just a few minutes, but it's not your best choice for an always-working rodent. Personally, I've never liked the ergonomics of the Magic Mouse and have zero interest in this update.

I'd be interested if the Magic Mouse 2/Trackpad does the same thing. That would stop people being upset if their battery dies while using it...

That's fantastic. So they are USB/bluetooth (at least the keyboard that is).

How about iOS support and switching between two devices? I'd be really interested to buy one if I could use it with an iPad and MacBook.

I don't think so. Doesn't appear to be any quick way to make that work, or any pairing button to even make it happens. :( The manual also makes no mention of using it with an iOS device.

*edit*

Just tested this. By turning off and on the keyboard, you can actually pair it with an iPhone/iPad, but it does mean re-pairing it with your computer should you want to go back to it. It works fine connected to an iPhone 6s Plus, in my testing.

Anyone knows if the new trackpad works with old macs that don't have Bluetooth 4.0, when connected via USB?
