And all of these people are professional cashier typer types??

I grew up with ZX Spectrum & co. and today much faster with the regular number row than 99% of the people I know that type on a numeric pad. Your post is Frost-bait, nothing else :) .
Why do you need to be a cashier to use a number pad? I use it even when I just need to enter a zip code or a credit card number...

[To paraphrase a former boss of mine, "Just because Frost said it, doesn't mean it's wrong."]

I'm surprised nobody mentioned solar keyboard. I was getting sick to replacing batteries all the time till I saw Logitech solar for Mac only on clearance at local store for $21. It's BT, not much bigger than Apple one and you can hook up to three devices like iPhone, iPad etc..
The best thing - it works even in my media room where is not much light at all...
I like it so much I bought all of them they had..
Apple should make one too, no need for any other charging devices and problem solved
I think we're moving towards consensus: a backlit solar keyboard...

Rechargeable peripherals have never sat well with my workflow. It's much easier to swap AAs than to be inconvenienced while it charges. Hopefully there's an elegant solution in the works.
Hah - maybe if you keep AA batteries on hand. I honestly just use the wired keyboards these days because I don't want the hassle of needing to swap AA's. I would rather have a system where I can just plug a cable in for a little while (still be able to use the keyboard while its charging) and then get another month of wireless.

Don't forget that if they make the keyboard backlit (please Apple!) that it will also drain power faster.

Some people have big hands. Some have small. Some have long fingers. Some short. Some are left-handed, some right.

The current Magic Mouse is perfect, because it is equally uncomfortable for all.

;)

Apple tends to think everyone is the same size, on the small side. They are figuring out this is not true with iphones fortunately. The earpods may be fine for someone with small canals, but mine are big and they will not stay in at all unless I use earhooks.

I think you want this:

plus this:

http://hengedocks.com/products/clique-magic-trackpad-and-wireless-keyboard-dock

Caveat: I have the Clique with the Apple trackpad, I haven't tried it with the Belkin keypad, which is supposed to be the same size.

Yes, I have seen those and I have thought purchasing those. The problem with any of those they need some sort of attachment device or they need to be detached to replace the batteries and then reattached again. And when they are attached they still look like they don't match. So now I need to spend more money to find something to attach the 2 pieces together. Not what I am looking for.

I have the current magic mouse and I really don't understand why people like using it. The surface is extremely frictive and doesnt feel good at all. Also the clicks are extremely loud and so is the mouse when you move it on any surface. It scratches very easily too.

I can't stand the magic mouse, I do like the trackpad but changing batteries every 2-3 weeks is a pain. Even with rechargeables.

The Clique is not bad, and detaching and reattaching to change the batteries is not a problem.

Don't know about the Belkin, though.

The Clinque also raises the level of the keyboard which might be fine for you. Watch, I will end up getting this because Apple won't release a full sized wireless keyboard with keypad, LOL! I do admit that the Clinque is the nicest looking attachment device.

When the existing Magic Mouse runs low on battery, it sure is nice that downtime is only the length of time it takes to swap 2 rechargeable AA batteries for the 2 that are drained (no more than about 30-60 seconds). While the Lithium option probably means a much longer time between charges, I hope that one doesn't have to swap mice when they forget to charge it when it's close to empty... or more regularly monitor for "low battery" so you can catch it on the day before it is going to be exhausted.

I have keyboard and mouse that use built-in lithium battery. If they run out while I'm using them, I can just plug them in and continue to use them as if they were a wired keyboard or a wired mouse. Charging doesn't interfere with using them at all.

Sure, the reason I got a wireless keyboard and mouse is to not have wires. And for 3-4 months at a time I don't have any wires. For one day, when i forget to charge them throughout the low battery warnings, they are wired peripherals. It's really no big deal. I think it's more convenient than swapping a bunch of AAs.

Did you bother clicking on the second link?
The one with the big bulky bezel to attach a trackpad to my keyboard? Yes I did.
To some of us a number pad is just extra space and weight. My wife likes one, if I have a keyboard with one I never use it.
If we were talking about laptop keyboards, I think that would be more relevant. I don't care how heavy my desktop keyboard is, I want it to be as heavy as it needs to be to make me as productive as I can be at my desk.

I suppose size matters to some, but it seems weird that a company that only makes ginormous displays pairs them with teeny tiny keyboards. It's a desk, not an airline tray table.

Hence, no more num pad. I mean really, this is 2015.
Yes, inputting primarily numeric data is, increasingly, a specialized task.
I would think that if anything was becoming irrelevant in 2015, it's needing space to the right of the keyboard to keep a book or paper. Entering numbers isn't specialized-- you just don't use the number pad for it. But I guarantee you enter numbers-- such as "2015"...
I still don't understand this. If backlighting is useless on a desktop keyboard, why isn't it useless on a laptop?
Yeah, I don't have much need for it on my laptop either, but I'm guessing the idea is that more people use laptops on planes where it gets dark with the cabin lights off than use desktops in darkened rooms-- and laptop keyboards are often shaped that makes it a bit harder to find the home row and special keys. Of course there's a rather large light source right next to the keyboard on a laptop that is probably further away on a desktop, so...

people still use apple wireless keyboard? the thing is so outdated, as soon as i got my mac pro i got the logitech solar wireless keyboard, and it types pretty good too.

apple's philosophy is backwards on this, they talk about how they recycle this and renewable that yet they force users to buy batteries, although people say they use rechargeable ones there are still tons of people out there using non-rechargeable

Yes, I wondered about this when I ordered it, but it has not been a problem at all in my situation.

I have ordered now a Belkin which will take about a week to arrive.

Solar is a good idea. If I need to use batteries I use rechargeable when possible. I also use LED light bulbs instead of incandescent light bulbs.

I really hope so!

I would really like that too.

Especially with the new butterfly mechanism keys, individual key backlighting, and Force Trackpad like the new 12" Retina MacBook has:

I'm using a graphic tablet. There is no way to use this together with a graphic tablet.

Well this is a surprise. I was beginning to think they'd never update the mouse and keyboard. I was even more surprised to find they still sell that terrible clit mouse! Isn't that thing more than a decade old by now? And I thought Apple was really cutting edge? Well not always it seems.

Bought a mouse very recently but part of my likes the idea of replaceable batteries so I'm not disappointed I got the old one (yet).

What I don't get is why they didn't just silently update the Bluetooth spec in the current MM and keyboard gradually over time. By itself it's hardly anything to warrant a new model yet it's something that would've greatly benefited the mouse over the past few years. Bluetooth 2.1 is ancient.

I too think the current MM leaves a lot to be desired. It needs an aluminium surface and not a 'sticky' plastic one That the plastic surface passed internal QA testing at Apple is pretty surprising. As a travel mouse it's really good though; nice and slim and fits in my laptop bag while adding hardly any extra bulk and weight, especially with lithium batteries.
