I like the USB keyboard. I do not see the sense in having a wireless keyboard if is going to be sitting then in front of the computer any way. What I would like is a keyboard less delicate because they get damaged by a tiny drop of water in no time. When cleaning them one has to be super careful.

I wish other mice would come remotely close to the feel of the touch top of the magic mouse. Unfortunately I have huge hands and it's just too flat for me, I still use it for my media macbook as that touch top is super convenient.

Rechargeable peripherals have never sat well with my workflow. It's much easier to swap AAs than to be inconvenienced while it charges. Hopefully there's an elegant solution in the works.
I'm thinking $99 and it comes with built in lithium-ion battery and a detachable USB-C cable that plugs into its C port, and can be used connected while it charges. Boom.

just get a 5$ generic logitech and you're better off.

the magic mouse is terrible to hold. (edit: and the cabled apple mouse is just terrible)

I'm left- and big handed and haven't found any logitech mice that I'd like at all...personally my winner is the microsoft wireless mobile mouse 6000, except for the macbook mouse which is the uncomfortably flat magic mouse, because of the touch top and its integration into OSX.

oh goodie, yet another apple device moving towards non-replaceable batteries, packs time, probably built in in a years time.

so glad Microsoft has got its act together wih cross device syncing, single sign on and even cross manufacturer software. Apple has, for me, lost its way since its peak in 2008-2011, but since then, its become the evil empire, non-user replaceable , obsolescence built in for a two year cycle and crappy Quality Control.

Sadly they have gone from amazing OS on well built quality hardware, to buggy OS on cheapest components possible in a shiny case

as for devices, i already have the best wireless recharagble mouse ive ever used http://www.razerzone.com/gb-en/gaming-mice/razer-ouroboros

and i will ever use a wireless keyboard as i like backlights and USB ports and audio jacks and the like on my keyboards

An awful lot of Taxcut and Turbo Tax gets sold every year. Anyone who has to enter a W-2 would benefit from a numeric keypad.

And all of these people are professional cashier typer types??

I grew up with ZX Spectrum & co. and today much faster with the regular number row than 99% of the people I know that type on a numeric pad. Your post is Frost-bait, nothing else :) .

My guess is that 99% of the people you know are not accountants. :)

I'm a decent typist, but when crunching numbers without a keypad, I look like I've got 10 thumbs. So for bean-counters and the like, nothing beats a keypad.

I've been using the trackpad on MBPs and Magic Trackpads with iMacs for so long, I haven't touched a mouse in years and am happy it's ancient history to me.

A group of filings posted to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission website yesterday (via SlashGear) reveal impending upgrades for Apple's Magic Mouse and wireless keyboard accessories. Images accompanying the filings point to the Magic Mouse's successor to simply be titled "Magic Mouse 2," but no specific name for the new wireless keyboard has been revealed.

The internals of both devices will see a notable overhaul in their Bluetooth capabilities, with each device getting a bump from Bluetooth 2.1 to Bluetooth 4.2. The upgrade will bring about Apple accessories that should see a noticeable increase in battery life and more robust communication between the input devices and the main computer.

Also of note is the inclusion of integrated lithium battery packs, which users will have to charge instead of the swapping in traditional AA batteries as seen in the current generation of the Magic Mouse and Apple wireless keyboard. The change is noticeable on the wireless keyboard in particular, with Apple able to do away with the barrel shaped feature on the bottom of the existing keyboard where the replaceable AA batteries are housed.

Both the Magic Mouse 2 and wireless keyboard have undergone testing with "pre-production" builds of each device, so the possibility of a release sometime before or on Apple's upcoming September iPhone media event may be likely.

So, numbers are irrelevant in 2015? ;)

No.

The only people who would say that are people who never needed to work with data. And no, this is not a "specialized task" as some other guy claimed. Typing in numbers is a pretty common task to most people. And yes, it is a lot faster on a numpad.

Yes, inputting primarily numeric data is, increasingly, a specialized task.

As a software developer, I rarely need to do that professionally. Nor privately.

I use the rest of my keyboard as much as I use my numeric keypad, so my job (and those of the 15+ people that work with and for me, as well as others like us) aren't specialized tasks.

Needing a keypad, I don't have the vantage point of people such as yourself, who find it irrelevant. I'm just saying let's keep an open mind.

One keyboard does not fit all applications.

Id love a Magic Mouse that doesn't make my hand hurt. :/ Even the old puck mouse suited me better, somehow.

Which is frustrating.. I occasionally go back to the MM and have to swap back to my Logitech after a day or two. If they had a less flat version that'd be nice.

I don't know how many times I've gone to present work in front of a client or internal group at work and suddenly realized my Magic Mouse or Apple Wireless Keyboard batteries are dead. I always keep a four pack of emergency AA's in my bag and it has saved me many times. I doubt I'll be a fan of this unless Apple releases a wireless desk charger. It would be neat if they had a short range wireless charger that would charge any keyboard, mouse, phone, tablet, laptop or watch placed within a three foot radius. Of course the devices would have to support the protocol but I'd buy it as long as it doesn't give me cancer.

As for the devices, perhaps the reason for using lithium is that they could fit in my battery capacity to support higher-end features like force touch and the taptic engine. Like others I'd love Touch ID. I think integrating it into the mouse would be too expensive unless they limit it to a circular area. Maybe they could put it on the corner of the keyboard? Or maybe hidden in one of the home row keys? Putting it on multiple keys or the whole mouse would be slick but expensive.

It demands a completely different way of holding a mouse that, once you get used to it, works very well and it is hard to go back to a big mouse
It doesn't work very well for a lot of things mice are generally used for. It's atrocious for games, for a start.. (Scroll wheel dificiency? Ability to rapidly press right and left buttons, sometimes simultaneously) It also has completely different strains on your hand/wrist/fingers, and offers little support. It's not a case of learning to use it, it's just outright uncomfortable for a lot of people regardless of how they use/hold it. :( (I really wanted to love the thing, and spent so long setting up custom finger positions using better touch tool to try and make it less painful, but it just doesn't work for me.) Anyone with any degree of RSI like symptoms wouldn't advise it.

I'm sure it's perfect for some people though.

1. Make it more efficient (if using the latest Bluetooth) but replace regular batteries with inconvenient lithium recharging - FAIL
2. Make the keyboard physically different so that it is incompatible with the Henge dock people already have - FAIL
3. Will it also be backwards incompatible with Bluetooth 2.1 like the latest Logitech Bluetooth mouse? FAIL?

I'm surprised nobody mentioned solar keyboard. I was getting sick to replacing batteries all the time till I saw Logitech solar (for Mac only) on clearance at local store for $21. It's BT, not much bigger than Apple one and you can hook up to three devices like iPhone, iPad etc..
The best thing - it works even in my media room where is not much light at all...
I like it so much I bought all of them they had..
Friend of mine is using also Logitech solar in full size. He's very happy as well..
Can't believe Apple doesn't make one yet..no need for any other charging options/devices and problem is solved!

And there are households that have more then one user who uses the same computer and like the availability of the keypad. So it does matter what year it is, 2015 or otherwise, a wireless keyboard with keypad is a choice that I would like to have.
