It's not gonna take 9 days to deliver it, I don't think.

It says on or before. I'm sure they just put that date down to cover everything. Just in case something happens. That date should be the absolute date that it gets to your place.

Its nearly always the same for delivery of new Apple products to Europe. My Alu iMac and latest Macbook both had similar shipping times to that and came from China.

The 15" still has a lot of quality control issues of its own (Screws falling out, Flickering Screens, Poor 9600GT Performance and those are just a couple things)

If you read these forums a lot you'd think the world was ending with the new 15" unibodies, but the reality is only 0.001% of them have problems, and those 0.001% write on these forums. You'll be waiting about 12 months for the next revision, and it wont be quad core.

Exactly, it only takes about 6 days to deliver but they like to cover all their bases, they've only just gone into production so they dont want to promise things they cant deliver.

I know 4 people who have bought the new 15" model and all of them have had problems. And all of them have had to have them serviced. It doesn't fill me with confidence. I don't base what I say on the forum posts here no.

And I think your confused about revision wise. I'm not waiting for a new revision of the current Model. I'm waiting a few weeks for the current models defects to be found (if any exist) and fixed at the manufacturing level before I purchase my own unit. It is a foolish person who purchases any Apple product before anyone has used it or reviewed it (beyond a Macworld touch-fest)

For example some people on the Board purchased it before we even knew if you could upgrade the RAM or the HD yourself. That is not the act of an informed buyer.

Is there a way I can tell when I will get it before I order it? I don't want to place my order and have it show a delivery date of March when I know I could get it in a store sooner.

It wont show a delivery date of March, it will show a delivery date of Feb 20th at the latest.

Exactly, and I got apple care just incase anything does go wrong!

Congrats for your purchase, I know how excited your feeling :D

It will likely be there sooner. Under-promise, over-deliver is the business motto of any good company.

Just ordered today.

I did some thinking, trying to decide if I should go with a 15" or 17". Decided on a 17" because it could easily replace my current PC desktop (X2 4600+ 4GB DDR, gForce 7600 256mb) and the 15" couldn't (display resolution).

The only change I made was the 7200rpm 320GB disk. No AppleCare, but I'll get it if there are any problems.

Ships: 10 Feb
Delivers: 17 Feb

I didn't order apple care but I have a question. Can I order it anytime after I purchase it and it will be covered so if something breaks in the first year I'm all set right?

Can anyone confirm the shipping time for the 15 inch UMBP when it was first released, did it come before time!!!!.....mine says 11/02/2009, and i leave for a 2 month holiday on the 12th morning:confused:

..I don't know about everyone but I do. :) I've never purchased anything on it's release date either...

Haha, I'm one of those blokes that got an HD-DVD player when they came out! *dohhh

I still think HD-DVD sounds more professional as the successor to DVD than Blu Ray. IT'S JUST THE NAME! And the $400 I dropped on the player just to get 6 movies in HD.

Can't speak for the 15" UMBPs, but when I ordered Mac OS X 10.4 it said "Ships April 29", but it arrived on April 28th, the day before it was supposed to be released.

Yes. you can buy it within the first year of use at anytime. I suggest you buy through eBay. It's only about $200 net.

Or if your a student/teacher in a university you can get it for a lot cheaper from Apple! I got mine for £57 but normally it's £273!

Just wanted to say thanks for this info re Applecare. They charged me mistakenly 200 pounds with student discount, now corrected, BUT I've lost a week on the shipping date! 'Apple expert' said he'd mark the order urgent 'cos it was their fault-here's hoping.

I'd rather loose a week and save £140! but I know what you mean it's so annoying when it was their mistake in the first place!
