I just ordered mine last night!

17" 2.93GHz 4GB RAM 7200RPM HDD

Ships January 22nd
Delivers on January 26th

You guys just don't know how to order :D

Hmmm what the heck happened there.. I ordered the same specs... either your playing with us or you've got the inside track.

I ordered the original Macbook the day it came out. Its 3 years old now and still chugging. The palm rest didnt even turn brown. I think first rev products aren't that bad, and if something goes wrong obviously its Apple's problem to fix it.

BTW, screw Applecare, order with a credit card that doubles your warranty. They'll just pay you for the repairs with money that could go to a new computer instead.

But you'd think apple would be smarter and build laptops closest to people ordering them...

lol China is a big place I admit but it doesnt really matter where in China they are made, they're still going to take the same time to be delivered. Its more down to the production backlogs at each factory, and the method of transport from factory to your door.

For example some factories use ships to get the macbooks from China to the US, whereas others get aircraft.

But how do you know the user is from China?

what user? Apple products are all made in China and the new 17" hasn't gone into production yet so when they are built they will get delivered!

My comment is how is nikhsub1 due to ship in Jan versus every other user here in Feb. Just want to know what they did differently...

Haha, I'm one of those blokes that got an HD-DVD player when they came out! *dohhh

I still think HD-DVD sounds more professional as the successor to DVD than Blu Ray. IT'S JUST THE NAME! And the $400 I dropped on the player just to get 6 movies in HD.

Well, the name HD-DVD sounds almost like a gimmick. Blu Ray sounds like a totally new thing. HD DVD was also badly marketed. I bought a HD-DVD Player that I connect to my xbox 360. I spend $200 dollars on it. I bought a few movies at first. Then, I stopped since I found out they are going down under. Since, I figured I can buy HD DVDs for alot less now. I stopped by FRYS a few months ago I see HD DVDs from 3.99-12.99. 24.99 for a season of a tv show. The hd player is also 40 bucks. I bought like 10 hd dvds for like 60 bucks. I don't regret purchasing a hd player since they are almost 500 movies released for it. High Def dvds for 10 bucks. :D

Excuse me for going off topic.

I am curious which country do you live in? Thanks :)

That's why I got apple care; incase anything goes wrong with it! I had already waited a month because I was going to get the 15" MBP but changed my mind when I saw the new unibody design on the 17"!

That's still a lame excuse for 9 days delivery time! They could've done it as international next day delivery!

I waited three weeks for my Mac Pro. A lot of it depends on how you customize it. Chances are you will get it at least a week earlier than quoted. My Mac Pro came about a week or 10 days earlier than projected. At present the delivery times are 3-4 weeks.

I just talked to PCConnections, who's selling the 2.66 version for $150 less with a mail in rebate and the 2.93 version for $100 less without a rebate needed (I got the latter). They said it will be delivered to me mid-Feb. That's what I get for going 3rd party I guess. But there's no taxes or shipping either so its the sweetest deal on the tubes.

congrats, whens your estimated delivery date?
Feb 13th, to Burlington, VT.

is everyone ordering the 2.93ghz model and not the 2.66ghz?

I did the 2.66. I don't have the coin or the ability to justify the 2.93. It will be a bit faster, but I'm not using this for my job, just my own recreational sports/nature photography, video editing, movie watching, internet surfing, etc.

I don't really NEED the .3 ghz. Probably useful for some, but for 300 dollars I can think of better ways to spend my money.

I'm having it delivered to basically Portland, OR.

I went for the .27 more speed because percentage wise it makes ~ 10% speed for ~ 10% cost. I'm going to keep the computer for a long time at least 5 years so it's why I spent the money now even though a custom config has a lame return policy as compared to the standard config.

Of course it hasn't shipped but my credit card has a pending charge? Is that normal? Anyone else experience already being charged for the purchase?

It depends on what you do with the computer. You are more likely to suffer from memory, GPU etc. so the extra 0.3 is IMHO really not worth the money but we can meet here in 5 years and you can tell me :)))

Im looking to get the 17" MacBook Pro also. I'm looking at the 2.66GHz but still considering the 2.93GHz. I'm going to be using this system for digital photography, virtual machines and coding... but I dont know if it still justifies the 2.93 model yet.
