Ok, I am Jan 22, so that means only a matter of hours/minutes, seconds for me. Frankly, I find it interesting to watch the cogs move.

My order was on the 11th and I have no charge or anything yet so there seems to be no order. I have the apple order page and my credit card page refreshing every minute to keep it active and fresh.

I notice that everyone here seems to have ordered directly from Apple. I ordered mine from MacMall to save the state tax and to get a few extra promotions. Consequently, I don't have a status page with Apple for delivery. I placed my order on January 21. The predicted shipping time is around February 19. It will be coming from MacMall, not Apple. I am having IWorks pre-installed, as well as Parallels and Windows XP. I ordered the 2.93 with the 7200 drive, glossy.
Is there any particular reason none of you ordered from MacMall?

$2239.00 base model (2.66/4/320@5400) price. My custom is $2519.00 (2.93/4/320@7200). If macmall beats that, then i'll order from them.

I ordered from PcConnection. 2.93ghz for $2,999 (-$100 no rebate needed), no shipping, no taxes. People who buy from apple are suckers. $300 in taxes plus $100 extra for retail is not worth getting it a week early. Plus the gave me a free 2 day air upgrade for waiting.

Ordered from Apple, what did you pay? Who's the sucker? :p

Mine's $2519 w/ 2.93 and 7200 drive. It comes cheaper even with tax. Even with a 100 dollar printer and tax, its cheaper then your 2999.. sorry. lol

The Service manual for the 17" Unibody Macbook Pro is now available for apple repair centers. This usually occurs when the product is available.

All of you getting the cheaper prices from Apple must be getting a educator discount. I called Apple and asked them about getting one, because I am a retired teacher. They said "NO WAY." I certainly would have ordered from Apple, despite the tax, if they had offered me a discount of any kind. They didn't.

I have a student developer account. 1 time discount but ive been saving it for a expensive product such as this.

I was unaware that there were any other resellers other than MacMall. I used to buy some items from MacWarehouse, but they are not in the US anymore. I would have preferred to buy somewhere other than MacMall, because they give all their discounts in the form of "rebates," but did not know about PC Connection.

How did you get yours so cheap ($2239 for the base 17 inch unibody) even with the education discount? Student discount is $2599.

Thanks for the info.

I ordered from Macmall. There shipment of base model MBP's will be delivered on the 18th. As far as I can see buying from apple direct is like throwing money away.
Base model MBP delivered to my door.
Apple price: 2,985.00 with taxes.
Macmall, after discounts and rebates: 2,556.00

Same return, same warranty, same machine, $429.00 cheaper?

No they wont, you'll be lucky if they're shipped on the 18th, considering Apple just shipped the first one for its own customers today, and it ALWAYS supplys its own customers first on pre orders you'll be lucky to even get the 19th ship date, you'll probably get your delivery on the 23rd onwards.

I'm fine with that and so is my wallet.:D
