So you think Apple should treat your order better?

Got a letter from Mac Mall today. In effect it said that Apple would not give them any certain delivery date and that I could continue waiting or call them to have them cancel the order. Or, if I did not call, they would automatically cancel the order 60 days after the original order date (Jan 21.)
I can't understand Apple treating their resellers that way, unless they just don't really want anyone selling their product except their own stores.

This is why many people are willing to pay the tax and buy direct from Apple. Of course they will treat their loyal customers better--for one thing--Apple can look up and see what other products you have purchased direct.

No idea, I would guess the west coast but hopefully they fly directly to the east coast...I think that's my only change of getting it tomorrow.

They fly to Indianapolis after Alaska. Then from there to me in New York hopefully.

Im thinking it's going to stop at California, the Port of Oakland hub. That would mean great news for the Bay Area people.

SSD Orders

It looks like no SSD Orders have shipped yet. It is 8AM in China right now, and after 7PM EST, 4PM PST. Nothing has shipped for anyone with an SSD Order.

I suppose you could loosely say that Orders shipped by 3:59PM on the 20th in China would still be "out" on the 19th relative to the 11:59 PM on the West Coast.. So in any case, those with shipping dates of the 19th should have some new information tomorrow. If not it is time to start making telephone calls and complaining.

Who has a ship date of the 19th that has not seen any change in status--i.e. still seeing "Not Yet Shipped" for status. Post that information now along with your build configuration and if a different ship date, post order date and ship date...

New York Update

So the plane left Alaska at 5:47p.m. NY time. From Alaska it goes to Indianapolis which is about 9 hours away by plane. This should bring us to around 3-4a.m. NY time. If it clears customs fast it will then come to NY which is about 2 hours away which brings us to around 6-8a.m. NY time. If all goes well what do you think the odds are of it getting on the truck for delivery tomorrow (Friday) morning???

Im hoping it works out but if worse comes to worse I can pick it up on Saturday from the Fedex facility near me after spending all day on the phone.

That's cutting it pretty close, doesn't leave time for sorting and delays. I'm hoping too but realistically I'm expecting it very latest Monday and maybe I can pick it up Saturday.

Well, I've been loyal to Apple since I bought the original Apple II. But, back then, and for a long time you could not purchase directly from Apple. I got into the habit of buying from other retailers. I still call myself loyal to Apple, because I've been purchasing their products ever since. And - I still say that if Apple isn't careful, they will drive all the resellers away, and I don't really think they want that.

I have a ship date of Feb 19. I ordered the 2.93 with SSD and no movement. My order still says Not yet Shipped. I have an order date of Jan 13.

To all here. Realize that the best part of your purchase was these last few weeks of waiting for your dream computer. Once you get the computer, you realize that the longing and waiting for the computer was more sweet than actually getting it (much like life in general).

I have had great fun reading about everyone's travails. I too remember the same feeling waiting for my 1st Gen Macbook Air last year. Checking countless time each day on the status of the shipment. Tracking Fedex flight across from China. That moment when I saw that it had arrived in Delaware. Waiting for the delivery truck...... Bringing the brown box package home to open like a new baby. Oh, that packaging (black and sweet!)...... Slipping the virgin plastic off the computer. Seeing how thin it was. Almost not wanting to turn on the computer.

FWIW...

I called Fedex today and a really nice lady was able to answer all of my question about my "package", aka the 17" MBP!

It left Feb 18, 2009 7:27 PM from SHANGHAI CN

Got to ANCHORAGE, AK on Feb 19, 2009 12:41 PM

Now it'll head to Memphis, Tennessee for Customs (Seems like all of the 17" MBP's will get customs checks heres!), is what the nice lady said and it clear so no storm delays like yesterday. Then depending on each person package it'll go to the state your in. In in San Jose, CA!

She said it has a good chance to be at my FedEx in San Jose on SATURDAY MORNING FOR ME TO PICK UP! All I have to do is call back tomorrow and check the status of it!

If I can pick it up by SATURDAY MORNING! WOW! Hope this helps a bit people!

BTW, I placed my order through the ADC Jan 12, 2009 at 1:30pm with STOCK and nothing else but the $100 rebate printer, that I got that same week!

SSD Orders

No matte given the ship date I take it. That makes you the earliest SSD w/o matte order, if so. Your order will ship first once SSD orders start moving. Please keep us informed.

I promised myself last night before I went to bed, that if my matte 17" hadn't shipped overnight, that when I got up I was going to phone Apple and complain and probably change it to a glossy just to get it quicker. But...then...well...this morning I thought better of switching the glass screen after re-reading that Rob Galbraith article on just how reflective the glass is...and seeing the YouTube video posted by isethx of his new 17" high-gloss. I think I would regret the lack of patience to get the matte and hate the glossy screen. :(

The trade-off

Well, I've been loyal to Apple since I bought the original Apple II. But, back then, and for a long time you could not purchase directly from Apple. I got into the habit of buying from other retailers. I still call myself loyal to Apple, because I've been purchasing their products ever since. The trade-off is get it cheaper--but you have to wait. That is fair.

More Alcohol

Thanks! at this point yes, all 20 fingers crossed to get it by friday... what a bunch of geeks we are, looking forward to get the new machine before the weekend so we spend it sitting in front of it, like we don't do that for the rest of our lives! LOL! but well if i get it by friday it will prevent spending more money on alcohol!

Liar, you will still spend money on the booze :)

ordered matte today

I just ordered my MBP 17" matte today. I kept everything standard, minus the matte option. I got an email saying it would ship quicker and that it is going out on March 2, scheduled to arrive to California on the 5th with 2-3 day shipping. That is about 11 days.

Congrats! I ordered the 17" MBP with the Matte option as well.

I'm getting mines tomorrow.

It traveled from China to Japan then Alaska then Kentucky, now it's in Long Beach California. Seems like a waste that it went to the Mid East. Now it's here locally and I can't wait to get it tomorrow.

Have any Canadians had their new MBPs shipped via UPS and have had them delivered? Mine seems stuck in Alaska. Just wondering where it goes from there.
