The brightness is different from the perception of our eyes. as the gloss generate a lot of glare. So it seems brighter. The matte emits a diffused light, so it seems darker.
In my mind there non reflection will be more important then possibly a higher brightness ..
And that would be wrong. You see, Matte doesn't make light hitting it magically disappear. Its the same amound of obstructive light, just spread over the entire surface instead of focus on certain spots.
Both screens looks bad in bright light, its their brightness that allows you to power through the obstructive light. low brightness=invisible screen, matte or glossy.
thats god news ...now I´m happy again ..
that is exactly what have been a lot of talk about .
The Glossy gives an illusion that gamers want and designers dont want ..
I´m one of thouse who is a designer and cant stand glossy .. If the MBP Antiglare is close to my ACD 30 inch in brightness and color I will be more then happy ...
Im a designer who cant stand matte, i cant stand the distortion that it gives even when calibrated.
Personally i kinda have a thing for my CRT, but thats a secret haha
for me this two images says it all

crt is glossy and very bad for the eyesand health. brighter yes, not better anymore.
sorry m8.
matte like matte paper gives u the impression of a reality.
CRT isnt glossy, there was no "glossy vs matte" in CRT, you just had CRT. And CRT screens arnt bad for your eyes at all, its just electrons fired at a glass surface, its no more dangerous than going outside.
CRT screens are far more accurate for graphic design than any flat screen you can purchase, with much higher colour accuracy and better preacisness.
sorry m8.
Do we really need every thread to descend into a "glossy/matte" bickering match? This is supposed to be about delivery dates. Please stay on topic, people.
Mine's "Out for Delivery" with TNT!![]()
yeh . its all about personal taste. some like it some dont .. but it ALSO is about working enviroment ...
when I WAS using glossy for a short time this is the type of problem I would have ..
Do you really use your computer at that angle? I tend to sit facing mine. In fact, how do you even use the keyboard with it almost at right angles to you?!
im guessing your in the UK like me. When was yours shipped if you don't mind me asking. Mine still says "In transit to final destination - carrier details to be updated shortly."
Hi,
Hope this helps, my MBP was shipped on 17th & in transit until yesterday evening when the message changed to 'UK Distribution Centre', then 3hrs later to TNT with a tracking number. I called TNT who said it would be delivered today-at last! Latest is (from TNT) out for delivery from their Wellingborough depot at 7.00am-so not long now.
(Ordered 13 Jan, 2.93, 7200 & Applecare, that seems to slow things up)
I received my 17" MBP Friday. I was so exited! Finally! It is a beautiful machine. It turns out, though, that the 9600M GT video card is bad and the laptop has to be replaced.
So here I am, back on the delivery dates thread waiting to see when a laptop ordered probably today, 24FEB2009, will be delivered.
This 17" Uni was a replacement for a late-2008 17" MBP...
Ugh. I have to start waiting AGAIN.
Do you think if I ask Apple for an upgrade, like the 2.93GHz proccessor, they would give it to me for all of this inconvenience?
It seems to me that Apple isn't shipping a massive amount of these 17" MBPs at the moment, you'd expect that if they were in full production now that they'd be spitting out hundreds if not thousands per day, enough to satisfy the pre-orders at least, but seemingly there are a lot of people still waiting who ordered after the announcement. I would love to know what's holding them up as it's nearly 2 months after the original announcement and seemingly only a handful of people actually have had theirs shipped!
