I just checked my order status page and I have a tracking number (although I didn't receive an email).
I checked it on UPS and it doesn't recognise the number! It doesn't actually say who the courier is! all it says is:
Assigned Carrier
UK DISTRIBUTION CENTER

Anyone in the UK know who the courier is?

That means its still in Apples distribution centre, in about 12 hours it will change from an "80XXXXXXX" tracking number to a "70XXXXXXX" which you'll be able to track probably on TNT but maybe UPS.

If you check carefully you'll see the "80XXXXXX" number is the same as your Apple order number so its useless for now

Youll hopefully have yours tommorow then like me :) or Wednesday at latest! :)

Tried TNT mate? :)

Just got my tracking number from Apple!!! Being shipped with TNT!! after days of "in transit" and yeah i ordered it with Applecare to merge here, got shipped from China on the 17th Feb :)

(original order 19th Jan, Upgraded Stock Model, Check Signature for specs)

This probably means mine will be here tommorow :) yeeeeeeeee cant wait :p

That's awesome... I just checked mine (literally before I refreshed the screen and wrote about my tracking number!). I checked TNT and mine is coming from them too... how do you know yours is coming tomorrow? on my status it says 'please call'.

Once you get your courier tracking number it usually comes next day 99.9% of the time, only 1 time in about 500 has it ever not, and thats when they delivered it to the wrong address lol

Yes!

I just called up (to make sure) and the really nice Glaswegian woman said it's going to be delivered tomorrow :D
I'm so excited... I have to work at the hospital tomorrow... don't want to go in now lol!

Just as well, because the moshi clearguard came today! (ordered from US online on thursday, came so quick!) I'm all set!

If you arn't in when they deliver it then you'll have to wait until the next day! (Wednesday) as they wont release the item without a signature under any circumstances, they wont even leave it with a neighbour or if you leave a note saying pretty please (yes im sad enough to try that) however i read once you can get a release form which you can stick to your front door but im not 100% on that.

T-44 hours and counting....

Seriously, you'll have to let us know how that SSD is treating you the minute you get that thing! While I couldn't bring myself to pony up the $$$ for it, I have secretly told myself that if it comes down another $150 or so I'm all in :D

It was a few bucks more for SSD, but I am getting to the age where I am ready to indulge myself a little. One friend of mine buys a new motorcycle ever year--for the latest and greatest. I'm not quite that bad, but I do like good computer hardware. I've been working on computers since 1970--a PDP-11 the size of a refrigerator. For years I wonder how long it would take to produce a Solid State computer. I want one that turns on when I turn it on, and I never want to wait for anything to boot, compile, load every again--that is time wasted.

Frankly I didn't think I would buy an SSD right away. I was going to wait until i found out if it had the Samsung drive in it. Then I realized Apple would not use anything else. Now it seems I may be one of the first to get one. Yippie!

I haven't been this excited anticipating a new toy in a long while. I can't wait to benchmark it. I want to see how fast it will boot, how long the battery lasts, etc.

It is driving me nuts though. Tracking shows it left China 26.5 hours ago. The @#$% damn thing should have cleared in through Alaska four hours ago! Why would mine be any different? I cancelled my Apple Care a month ago.

Does FedEx have direct flights to Newark? Perhaps, I won't see anything until it gets out here to the east coast tonight.

Thanks for the heads up, I won't be in but someone will definitely be at home! It'll be waiting for me when I get home! Or I could just call in sick!

Just one question (this is my first Mac, sorry if it sounds dumb!)... when I get it do I have to calibrate the battery right away? I read the guide on apple.com, so you basically just charge it up then use it til it runs out of charge and switches off then charge it up? is that right? just want to make sure I do it right!

Thats called a quantum computer, being developed in M.I.T. right now, about the size of a room at the moment, and requires ridiculous amounts of liquid nitrogen cooling, but in about 20 years will be in your front room and your new MacQuantum Pro :) Thats why i always think its funny when people make predicitions about Intels processor lineup more than 10 years into the future, noone realises traditional charge based static computers we have been using for the last 40 years are soon to be relics only to be found in museums.

Yipppeeeeee!!!!!!

Just to let you know at about 5pm my order said that & now 19.15 GMT
I've got my tracking number for TNT-gave them a ring (0800 100 600), where they asked for Apple ref & learned it would be delivered tomorrow. Just thought you might wish to check.

I'm absolutely chuffed to bits. Hope you get that good news. (Ordered 2.93, 7200 & Applecare) from Apple on 13 Jan)

i personally ordered the 2.93 with everything else stock as I plan to drop my X25M 160GB that's in my 15" Unibody into the new machine. I'd expect that the faster processors would be on-hand in stores, even if HD and screen options are not- not a definite, but not unheard of either.

Please don't take this as an assault on pre-ordering- I myself originally ordered on Jan 20, and have ordered many of these right after WWDC dropped (I think back to the original MBP launch, and the grief we all experienced as it was delayed, then processor speeds all got bumped, etc.). I'm just wondering out loud (and rambling) on whether I would pre-order again.

I think some stores will get them late this week or if not next, but so far, no store has had them in my area (Bay area, CA). I would pre-order most of the time, just in case. I did exact same thing you are trying to do...got the 2.93 with the stock and put in the 160GB intel drive too! That thing is pretty damn fast. Can't wait to xbench it (I've had it on my older 15" MBP for a couple of weeks).

Apparently with this new 17" MBP you dont need to calibrate it as theres nothing about battery calibration in the manual, however im going to do it for the first time anyway, just to be on the safe side. Afterall even though its got new adaptive charging its still a Litium Ion cell just like every other laptop battery, just bigger and more clever.

Heres the quick guide:

Theres no harm in doing it :)

Ok cool, thanks a lot mate :)

Ok, got mine (still in the box till tonight).

Now, it's time to move to networking and other questions I have for matching this up to our iMac so they can truly be family.

Finally Some Movement to Pre for Shipment

Finally went to prep! The end is nigh!

Same here (ordered 13 Jan, 2.93, 7200 BUT Applecare with 'Merge' here). I spoke to Apple where lady said 'problem' is not with Applecare BUT 1 week's delivery from China! She said I'd 'probably' get a tracking number tomorrow or Wednesday that would say 'Out for Delivery'!
Only good news is promise of free case due to delay AND if you apply 'British' time to delivery it's 26th-Thursday instead of Friday! Not very good news BUT...
This is so frustrating-think Apple really ought to be clearer about how their shipping process works-despite what Applelady said, I'm sure 'Merge in Transit' of anything causes delays. I'm very envious of those who know/knew there MBP is in Korea or Anchorage or Cologne!!!

Still no update. I mailed Apple twice and called them three times. No compensation and they tell me to call back when the delivery is overdue. They don't answer my questions, they don't even try to make me happy. This after sales policy of apple sucks big time
Personally I think they won't make the delivery on the 26th, based on the fact that other people with the same or later delivery date and the merge already received their tracking info.

I just called UPS and the nice lady informed me that I can expect my shiny new laptop to be on my doorstep on Wednesday morning!

W00t. Can't wait. I'm going to start burning a couple essential DVDs now that I know when it's coming.

Nice configuration. I want to see your XBench results with all that RAM. Yikes! You will have the nicest machine on the planet! I'm waiting a few months for the RAM upgrade. Now I need to get busy and make $ome MONEY

I'm like you - I like my computer to rock and roll plus I am silly enough to pay for it too. This will be my first Mac so it may take me a bit to get the benchmarking done. It will be top priority though.:D:D:D

From a 3 year old 17" MBP to a new Unibody 17".... for Free

As you can tell, this is my first post as I am relatively new to the MAC world, I have been a Windows guy since I was 15 (a few years now) and my wife, and her family has been a long time Mac house... something had to give. Now In my defense, I have always liked Apple hardware, its just been the OS that I could never wrap my head around, but being on this MBP for the past 2 months, I am getting more familiar with it. There are still times when I know how to do something stupid simple within Windows, that I have to fumble my way within Leopard..... but I am getting more used to it.... now onto my story...

So back in December, I got a 2006 17" MBP from a company that owned me money, so I accepted this 17" MBP as payment (thought, what the heck, my wife will be happy) it still has 4 months of Apple Care on it. On Saturday of last week, one of my kids were playing on it and all of a sudden the screen went black and 2 puffs of smoke came billowing out of the back..... I thought dang it, there goes my MBP, but I remembered that it was still covered under Apple care, so I made an appointment at the Apple store for Sunday. I go in and tell them what happened (the tech can still smell the burnt electronics while looking for the serial number) he says "I am going to take this into the back and run some diagnostics, I will be right back" I said ok and proceeded to look around the store, he comes back no more than 3 minutes later and says, "because of the numerous issues in the past with this MBP, and since I dont have any 17" glossy screens in stock, we are going to replace this with one of the new 17" MBP for your troubles" I was a little stunned, but thought, thats Awesome! He said, the SLC store will be getting their first shipment of new 17" MBP tomorrow that he had already reserved one for me and would call me tomorrow when the data transfer had been completed.

Now I am sure its the base model configuration (did not want to get into specs with the guy yesterday) but, I am really excited about it and you wont hear me complaining! I just got one for nothing, I was very impressed with the support and that pretty much cements me to buying Apple from now on. I will post pics tonight with my iPhone.

Just received mine today. I hadn't seen anyone post here regarding one issue in the previous 15 inch unibody.. but thought i'd mention here. For all those worried about the display hinge being too loose on the 15 unibody.. causing the display to slowly inch closed if held at too much of an angle on your lap, etc... Apple seems to have listened. New 17 display is extra firm in the hinge and doesn't budge at all no matter what angle held at. Installing apps now, but so far.. blazing fast, very clean.. not a single blemish, nick or imperfection in the cast.. very happy at this point.

17 2.93, 320@7200, Gloss display, 8GB ram..

XBench is free and a small program with a fast download. It wouldn't take you more than a few minutes to run it.

Scores are heavily dependent on disk speed and the amount of files on the drive. A larger faster drive that uses only a small part of the drive performs better.

For some reference.

My 3.2GHZ 8 Core Mac Pro with single TB drive scored 182.17
My Mac Mini w/3GB Ram, 2.33GHz CPU, 5400rpm 320GB Scored: 140.74
Box Stock Mac Mini w/1.83GH CPU Score=100.38 I achieved a 40% improvement in my Mac Mini with those upgrades.

Here are some XBench Averaged (accurate) Scores, taken from XBench web site and then sorted on ranking:

Mac Pro 158.35
PowerMac G5 (Late 2005) 121.29
MacBook Pro (Core 2) 112.02
Xserve G5 109.33
Apple TV 106.31
PowerMac G5 (June 2004) 98.12
Mac mini (Intel) 97.50
MacBook (Core 2) 94.49
MacBook Pro 92.63
PowerMac G5 (Orig) 86.03
MacBook 86.02
PowerMac G5 (Late 2004) 78.85
iMac G5 65.26

Note the variation here between my scores and these average. It is not uncommon to see scores up or down 20 points because the random disk access can kill your score. My tests were done in optimal configurations. A drive with lots of files in the slow part of the disk will kill your score.

I'm pleased as punch with my Max Mini performance. I will eventually put a Samsung SSD drive in it. You can't beat a Mini for performance/$$$ if you upgrade it. IMy 2.33GHz CPU even beats out even the G5. For a G5 to beat it, it would need a fast RAID setup.

Note also that the Apple TV scored better than many non-intel CPU's. I don't know much about the Apple TV. I use my Mac Mini as a music server for my TV/Stereo system.

So what do you think the XBench scores for the MacBook Pro will be? I checked on XBench's results page, which had older model MacBook Pro's. The 17" MBP should be no lower than 120 (likely higher around 150 range) and over 200 with a fast SSD. I saw an MTRON SSD in a Mac Mini score 158! Wow!

All this just makes it that much more important I put SSD RAID in my Mac Pro. I can't have my laptop more powerful than my desktop--it just wouldn't be right. I need to find some new work to pay for all this stuff.

I just checked. My MBP cleared customs in Anchorage. It should leave in a few hours for Newark. Yeah!

Steve Jobs personally doesn't like Aussies--something about the 1983 America's Cup. He is sending it by ground transport.

That I do believe. Still I cannot see Jobs holding a grudge for that long. Especially delaying the new Macbook pro in Australia when he's on sick leave....

I think waiting for my macbook to arrive I have gone mentally insane. Sorry if I made some bad comments yesterday. It happens when you're overworked and over stressed... Again, sorry.
