Week 31
Samsung
I have the yellowing issue. But honestly, it bothers me only when I check.

I'll wait to see if I will exchange it. If it come to a point where clearly every new MBP is ok, I will do it, but right now it still look like a lottery.

Ok... Now I'm really confused. I ran the two test images fullscreen, and the bottom square is a tiny bit darker than the top, but clearly not "yellow". Just not quite as bright a white as the top one. I'm thinking it may well just be that the backlighting is a bit stronger at the top. Is this the issue everyone's talking about?

Also, the grey test image should exhibit some yellow gradient towards the bottom overall too? I don't have that.

Is this issue more subtle on some machines?

BTW: I have a samsung screen, build week 31.

This issues hasn't been as clear as the yellow. But I know when you test the images on a 2.16 or 2.33 MBP the images are fairly consistent barring the normal color/brightness shift as you move your head around on the screen. Perhaps this is what your noticing. Hard to say with out seeing it in person, but the yellow issue is very apparent using the squares.

Yes, my new MBP does!

Matte screen. 2.2 ghz, Samsung display, YELLOW at bottom, purchased from Amazon.com...the good thing is that it came with the newer, smaller power adapter. However, it's going back. Don't need a urine yellow screen.

2.4 ghz version always have LG screen?

I've read more than one post about a person having a yellow Samsung screen, then they upgraded from a 2.2 machine to a 2.4 ghz and presto, a beautiful, white LG screen!

Is there some evidence that the 2.4 ghz models have a better chance of having the non yellow LG screen in them? Or a non yellow screen of any make?

Just curious...

I would guess what you notice is a slightly varied backlight or just that your eyes are more straight forward to the top of the screen than the bottom and that you therefor get a small difference in light due to the viewing angles of TN-screens.

Not all samsungs are bad.

What happens if you view it from other angles? My 5th Gen iPod has blue or yellow tints depending on what angle you look at it. I'm wondering if something similar is happening here.

Can some one confirm what I have?

When you say manufacturer? As I could not find what I was looking for. Mine was brought on Thursday just gone,
2.2 C2D SR
2gigs of ram
160gb HDD.

Same happens on all TN-panels. On mobil phones, nintendo ds and so on aswell.

It looks like you have an LG screen.

So now the question is, is it yellow at the bottom?

You have so see the MODEL and NOT Manufacturer code... From your model 0009c67, I think you have LG...

Do you have yellowing issue when you open the image in the first page of this thread in full screen (compare the white box on the top and the bottom)??

You should see it STRAIGHT on, not from the side of any other angle... In another word, you should see it with your eye sight perpendicular with your display surface.. If both of them are white, you don't have yellowing problem...

Come on new MBP owners! Show us what you got! Lets see if apple is figuring this out or if the new machines off the shelf still have yellow issues!

I am located in France and called Apple just now as i was worried about receiving a yellow tint MBP.
I ordered FW33 and asking them about the issue the aknoledged it stating they were aware and since this week they received a note saying the issue is fixed (i guess checking the lap top out of the production line and only letting out those without issues). Then i asked since what production FW is it solved...she had no clue...this said i wonder whether or not i will receive a defective one and if these statements are just "in front of customer BS statements in order to make us happy".

I should receive it around Aug 29th - Septh and will let you know.

I also asked what if i exchange it and the replaced one comes with the same issue. Answer was "you would be very unlucky but we will replace as many times as necesary until you get a good one".

New MBP: Week 33 (I think)

Ok, so I have a new MBP. 15" 2.4GHz. Arrived yesterday. I think from the serial number that I have a week 33 model. At least... there's a "33" in the serial number.

I do not see any yellow area on the screen at all. The screen actually looks quite nice. In fact, other than a lousy left shift key that keeps coming undone (i have to forcefully push it back into place occasionally) I haven't noticed any problems yet.

Anyway, I cannot find any clear instructions on how to get to see the display model number. I go to "About this mac", then "More info"... now what? Clicking "Graphics/Displays" on the left doesn't give me the same screen others are seeing and I see no other "Display" item to click ... anywhere. How do I pull this up?

Kevin

go to System>display.>color>open profile>13 that will tell you :)(9C67) is a LG

I picked mine up at the apple store about a week ago. How do i find the build week? My display is an LG and I downloaded both images and ran the test. The black image showed both white squares just fine. The gray image however seemed to have the lower white square just a tad bit darker than the top, but it was barely noticeable. I think it might just be my eyes playing tricks on me.

Your serial number starts with W87 the next 2 digits tell you the week build.

Thanks, in that case, my build week is 31. Also, another question... how do I know if i have an SR mbp? I'm still a newbie, so I'm not sure what the differences between an SR and other mbps are
