1. Skylake is still the newest CPU. Only low-powered versions of Kaby Lake are out. Apple has lots of cool tech, but (a real) time machine is not one of them

2. In the meantime, MS brings out a 13" laptop for $2400 and that's apparently 'ok'

I'm glad I didn't wait! I love the new touchbar but I don't love it THAT much. It'll come down in price though. The early adopters can fund the development, I'll happily wait a generation or two.

It might not. honestly.

its just, 3K or nothing. thats the entry point.

It's a scary thought knowing my next laptop will most likely be
I like to upgrade every 2 years. Now I'm wondering if Macs are still for me.

I'm happy I upgraded from a 2011 to a 2015 refurb earlier this year. I was just thinking the same sort of thing. I'm wondering if I'll even be able to afford a Mac when it comes upgrade time again. I think the good ol' days are over.

I'm going back to bed.

I was underwhelmed by the presentation (no Kaby Lake?) and then priced up a model in the store.
My 15" configuration is between 3300-4000€. Fully loaded it's 4999€.

I'm 75% certain that my next laptop won't be from Apple and this is coming from a person who has bought one every two years since 1999, including a couple of similarly overpriced 17" Powerbooks.

Thank you for making it easy, Apple!

Wait until you see the UK prices, they are ridiculous. When I saw the 13" without the silly strip I thought that is the one. The cheapest at nearly £1,500!!! Laugh laugh laugh.
Refurb store quick..........

Too late even the returbs have had a 10 to 20% Brexit tax added.

I was ready to buy too. I got a killer deal on my MBP from Best buy. Brand new, early 2015 13 inch MBP 500GB/16GB ram for 1200 out the door with my discounts and that movers coupon I was able to use.

I was gonna sell this on here and buy the new one, but those prices are CRAZY. Ill check back in a few months.

Wow, I too was quite surprised with the pricing. I've always been able to justify the premium to myself, but at this pricing, it is getting a little more difficult. I can't imagine not using a Mac though (I don't want to HAVE to use Windows all the time - I deal with it now when I absolutely am required to), so I guess I'll just start upgrading less frequently if this is the future direction of what we are getting for the money.

All I want is a quad core, but damn do I not want to spend the 15" premium price. Why the hell the 13 can't have quad is beyond me.

Damn. Again. I'm going Dell. Screw your arguments about Windows, it's a kickass OS.

Dell XPS 13
7th Gen i7-7500U Kaby Lake
16GB RAM
512GB SSD
3200x1800 touch display (276 ppi)
$1849 right now.

Plenty of ports, SD card reader, and USB-C.

When he said they had a replacement for the MacBook Air with no touch bar I knew that was the one. Then I saw the price.

Seriously, can someone explain why there was a $300 increase when it's basically an overdue redesign? I'd understand such an increase for the touch bar, but for this? Seriously? Goodbye, Apple.

Unreal. Usually totally fine with everything Apple releases, even iPhone 7 I can live with no headphone, but this is absurd. Just when Microsoft really picking up pace with some great new hardware and software releases and over the past year, then this hits.

Just checked, and I'll need at least $100 of dongles to continue using the computer as I usually do. And that's ON TOP of the ridiculous price hikes. Need to spend at least $1800 because the cheaper one only two ports (one of which is for charging), slower processor, weaker graphics. Really?? Unless you want to buy a dock or splitter but then thats more $$...

So about $2000 with tax and all is said and done for only 256gb hard drive, adapters, and last years processors. Guess that Venturebeat article was right: Tim Cook is the new Steve Ballmer. http://venturebeat.com/2016/10/25/why-tim-cook-is-steve-ballmer/

I don't agree with the prices but even a "surface book" with 256gb/i5 is 1700$.

You always pay premium price for new tech...it's normal.

No offence, but why do you guys keep telling us that? Why not actually go and buy a Dell instead of just saying you are? And maybe you (specifically you, not "the general you") are buying a Dell. In which case, good luck.

But to the general "you" who posts "I'm buying a Dell": "ok, good luck. Bye".

currently a MBA 2014 owner and i am upgrading to the 2015 MBP w/ retina.. for the sake of my lovable glowing logo and cheaper price

I knew the pricing would be bad thanks to the exchange rate hit after Brexit but wow.... It made the decision for me on 13" v 15" and the only extra I went for was the 16GB RAM.

Didn't order any adapters as I need to work out exactly what I need and I'm assuming there's a hub option of some sort + converter which will be the easiest way to go.

I'm replacing a 2013 11" MBA and 27" display...

i can get why people are pissed but its new tech i can so see myself getting one in the near future might have to finance it out but man i so want one skyline mbps will be freaking epic. and the toucher looks like it will be really useful. i do get what u guys are saying and its a massive price upgrade but still i think theres enough newness to justify it.

After watching the presentation, I headed over to the UK apple store site. I was ready to order a new MacBook Pro, then I looked at the price... I think i'll wait until the 2015 refurb price drops and then buy one of those.

Again, it's not the new tech. It's the fact that for $2400 you get a 256GB SSD and at $2800 it maxes out at 16GB of RAM (this one less important to me, but it's the same max as 4 years ago). iPhones come with 256GB of storage.

These will have an inevitable price drop and I'd be annoyed if I paid extra to have it now.

I just did order one from Dell after I tried to configure Apple's new MBP. I've been waiting for weeks since Dell came out with their new XPS, but trying to see what Apple has to offer. Apple isn't offering much, underpowered and overpriced is an understatement right now.
