I was ready to buy. So ready. But, not at these prices.

Oh wow really? Holy crap, there are no words right now.If they had went with Kaby Lake you could somewhat justify the pricing, but a year old processor? WTF Apple.
When he said they had a replacement for the MacBook Air with no touch bar I knew that was the one. Then I saw the price.
Seriously, can someone explain why there was a $300 increase when it's basically an overdue redesign? I'd understand such an increase for the touch bar, but for this? Seriously? Goodbye, Apple.
This is CRAZY!
I disagree. Kaby Lake isn't even ready yet for the type of machines Apple is releasing. Kaby Lake at this point would actually be worse TBQH. Just because something has a new name doesn't mean it's ready for prime time. Intel knows this and thats why there isn't a high end MacBook with it yet.If they had went with Kaby Lake you could somewhat justify the pricing, but a year old processor? WTF Apple.
You know, you have to wonder, shortly after announcing shrinking profits we get new laptops with a brand new high price - seems a little to coincidental to me.
Is it worth the money for someone who has never owned a Macbook before? Or is it still ridiculous?
For what you're getting, these are still reasonable compared to similarly spec-ed quality laptops on the PC side.
For example, check out Dell XPS13/15 for comparison.
Again, it's not the new tech. It's the fact that for $2400 you get a 256GB SSD and at $2800 it maxes out at 16GB of RAM (this one less important to me, but it's the same max as 4 years ago). iPhones come with 256GB of storage.
These will have an inevitable price drop and I'd be annoyed if I paid extra to have it now.
That 2TB SSD hurt. If I drop that, can drop the price to a 'reasonable' $4000-ish.
$5299 is maxed-out 15" CDN price, without employee/student discount.
Right now they don't mention iris pro on the 15" model, which means graphics switching is most likely disabled. You'll see it return with the next generation. Right now I think they have priced themselves out of their own market. I couldn't deal with a 256GB drive, given the number of software packages that I use, which take up 8-20GB (matlab, LaTeX, etc). VMs make it even worse. Given that I said I wouldn't deal with Apple's terrible notebook gpu implementations ever again, I wouldn't touch this one either way. I'll probably see what happens in the refurb store, because my current one is on its way out.
They kept the old one around to hold down the $2000 starting price. It's still $2000, because they have everything below that earmarked as 13" territory.
I agree. I was going to buy the maxed out 15" and that's almost $4,000! WTH!
