So if I'm listening to music from the speakers, it'll be blast away from me? So it's quieter from my perspective.

I think you will find if Apple decided to fit a rear firing speaker, they would be correct for doing so, however, according to many on these forums we have our ears in the wrong place. :D

I'm sure those sounded great too.;)

all speakers in mobile devices including ALL laptops sound like garbage.

however on those phones you can differentiate left and right sound (which was my original point) as well as the ability to fit stereo speakers on the ipad.

Then what is the point?

"ooooh its stereo! crappy, but STEREO"

depends if the content you listen too has stereo effects, most music i know of does, most movies do too

you using apple products should know all about compromise.

I think the issue is more the way the device is held. I often hold my iPad upside down in portrait mode so the speaker faces the top of the unit along with the home button. I do this so the speakers are not pushed into my lap thus muffling the sound. A back facing speaker would avoid the issue unless the unit is lying flat. Therefore the unit will have a tapered edge for the speaker.

The iPad is a mobile unit to use with headphones. If you need stereo quality sound use your headphones. You don't use the iPad to watch a movie on a plane with the speaker.

What's the point of stereo speakers that close together anyway?

This, this is why Apple keeps the device mono. Besides they don't want the device to replace your stereo Airplay speakers, they want it to be just enough to get by.

If you want Stereo sound, plug in headphones or stream to a real set of speakers.

Now I get it.

You know how bad Translations are form Products made in where everything is made are.:p Well that goes both ways, so when they read that Apple was going to include Airplay in there new iPads they figured that you need some way for the Air to come out.:D

what kind of reasoning is that for a premium device? you seriously believe that?

Premium product or not, the laws of physics take no prisoners. Some devices will have better sound than others, but the sound coming out of such a small device will never be great.

Is it worth buying the current iPad? I finally have enough money, and I'm itching to get one (as I have been since I first saw the keynote)...

What do you think? Should I try and keep it bottled up and wait for the iPad 2? Will it be the same price, do you think?

Are you itching to get it because of some need it will fill or because it is hip and cool. And how long will it take for you to raise that money over again when the next one comes out and it is hipper and cooler.

I went ahead and got one because I had been using them at work, found it useful and had my own shoot to do and wanted the same functions available to me. Plus I have a friend that would like one but doesn't feel the need to have the latest and greatest and is more than willing to buy my old one if I decide to get the next version.

But had I not had that need I think point I would have waited.

We really have no way of guessing the price since we don't know the game plan component wise.

its 2011!!!!! can i have stereo speakers on my ipad please..??? ggeeez!! or let me guess stereo sound will be an "upgrade" in version 2.5?? :(:( maybe i am being too harsh at least they gave me a color screen ...

Before you bust a vein with all this ire, let's break this down. You want stereo speakers and seem to think that it is cake to do but Apple is being big meanies so they can tease out features and force us to buy new iPads every year.

You must have done some research to back up that belief so why not share with us your findings. Starting with what company makes the appropriate components and is willing to sell to Apple. What affect will including those bits have on the size, internal layout, outer appearance, battery life and price of the devices. And how you know that Apple is ignoring the issue right now etc.

It is completely possible that Apple is going to address the sound issue in the next iPad. But it is also possible that they won't, due to issues currently out of their hands. So before bashing them (or any device company) for not doing something, try confirming that they are not and all the facts in the situation. Your stress level will appreciate it.

Comparing Apple to Bose is utterly ridiculous. Apple charges a premium for a premium product. Bose charges a premium for absolute junk.

The problem is, most consumers have no idea what good sound is. It's the same reason why TV stores set their all TVs in VIVID mode with all the colors out of whack, crushed blacks, pumped saturation. Picture quality is absolutely horrendous yet it makes people buy TVs.

Bose takes $2 drivers (not an exaggeration, they really use clock radio quality parts) and manipulates the sound to fool uneducated consumers. To anyone who thinks Bose sounds good, you have no idea how your music should really sound. It's like putting a ton of make up on a cheap hooker and charging supermodel prices for her.

I agree. My Aunt has the Bose WaveRadio. wicked expensive for what you get. I like companies that actually focus on the quality of their speakers. I have the Boston Acoustics Micro90t 5.1 Speaker system. Great sounding. The fronts (Micro90x) are $400 a pair, but sound WAY better than the crummy Bose speakers speakers at Best Buy.

Yes!!! That's exactly what I wanted - a better speaker on my iPad. /sarcasm

IPad 2. The Ghetto Blaster of 2000s. I can just imagine all the inner city youth with an iPad2 on his or her shoulders. :)
