Your current contract won't be subject to the new data cap - the new cap is only for contracts starting from June 24th onwards. The October 1st thing that people keep quoting is regarding these new post-June 24th contracts - they will start off unlimited but change to their caps after October 1st. Old (pre June 24th contracts) will continue being unlimited until you upgrade to a new tariff or stop the contract yourself - they will simply be ringfenced.

Got it. Thanks!

so if i sign up to a 30day simplicity tariff tomorrow in an o2 store, can i change my current payg number onto it and come the october deadline still have the unlimited data?

That's what I'm doing, except I'm keeping the new number. Helps get rid of the idiots who know my old number. ;)

Do Blackberry customers get unlimited data still? If so, then how can that be fair? They are basically saying "you want an iPhone and want to use it to it's full potential, you are going to have to pay a fortune. If you're a business dude who wants a Blackberry, then do what the hell you want"

agreed.

No. On a 30-day Simplicity tariff, you'll get moved to the new iPhone Text & Web tariff after your 30 days are up. I tried it 2 days ago.

damn..... im leaving o2 then.....

ill go with someone else once they announce plans.....

also their penalising iphone customers as its probably their biggest revenue maker, er..... "cherrr chinggg"

perhaps this may help others - it's the way i'm playing it.

I have a touch diamond original and will be buying iP4 soon after release - will be my first iP. I had Simplicity 30d for smartphone @ £25pm: 600m, Unlimited texts, Unlimited data (Ud is a £5 bolt-on, otherwise £20)

11/6/10 - 13:30: I changed to Simplicity for iPhone, 30d - 900m, Ut, U Wifi, visual voicemail and Ud - AGREED ONLY ON THE PREMISE I WOULD KEEP PERMANENT UNLIMITED DATA DESPITE CHANGING TARIFF. I WAS 100% ASSURED BY LADY THIS WOULD BE THE CASE AND I WOULD NOT BE AFFECTED BY UPCOMING DATA CAPS POST 24/6, as long as i do not cancel my contract or change to non-simplicity tariffs.

Today (13/6/10) - 09:07 - Was told that on 21/6/10 my new tariff will take effect. she checked with upgrades for confirmation re: Unlimited data and was told that that only applies to people who will get 'iP4 contracts' so i will always have Unlimited data.

To be on the safe side I told her to put a note on the system stating that I had selected and changed my tariff to iP Simplicity 30d on the assured understanding that i would always have Ud unless i decide to change my tariff or end contract in the future. She agreed to do so.

The way I look at it if it turns-out staff are morons and don't know what they are talking about, and my data gets capped, i can really lay into them and hopefully get them to leave my data as it is due to their employee's ineptitude. worst case, i'm only on a 30d contract so can easily jump ship. i guess for those who are trying to get onto new Simplicity tariffs as opposed to changing from one Simplicity to another, things may be different...

major selling point of iPhone for me is being able to upload those high-quality images to flickr etc. and half-decent looking iMovie for iP4-edited vids directly to You-Tube etc. i wish they would give option to upload them to Vimeo...

So what's everyone doing tomorrow?

Where are you pre-ordering from?

I'm thinking I'll pre-order from the Apple store for PAYG.

Can't bear to be tied into another 18/24 month contract.

no they wont make the phone free mate :)

theres no way they will, mainly because they dont need to

I suppose I'm living in my own little world aren't! A guy can dream!

You know on the new Business Tariffs? There is two types, a Single and a Shared, I'm just wondering, can a sharer be added to the single, or not? These seem to be pretty universal tariffs, so could anyone speak from experience with another phone?

It's been made very clear by o2 that this change is for ALL phones, not just iPhone. They're just introducing it now so that they don't end up with the first wave of iPhone 4 users on unlimited data contracts.

A friend and I was discussing the o2 tariff's yesterday on our way to london and we both found them very confusing my friend is convinced it is unlimited until october and i am convinced it is not unlimited for ANY new customers (as he would be a new customer) and the only way he would get unlimited data is to get a simplicity sim on a smartphone contract and get a pay as you go phone which he does not want to do.

When we broke down the pricing (i know sad lol) they seem to be forcing everyone to 24 months @ £40.00 a month with 750mb of data

The 18 month one @ £35.00 with 500mb seems to be borderline usable for when it comes to data as I am sure this new phone will chew through data at a very fast rate.

ill probably do the same, apple store for payg, only thing is whether i go to orange or o2..... would like to go voda but alas no payg

I have a feeling Vodafone will offer PAYG, they only reason I think they didn't with the 3GS is because they joined the iPhone game pretty late compared to Orange.

If there is no Voda PAYG, going to buy an o2 PAYG, top up £15 and unlock it.

That was my original thoughts but I would be very surprised if they offer unlocking so soon after release date.

i prob wont pre-order - really interested in white but want to handle both black and white before pulling trigger.
