What old version of iOS? How can you tell? And also, its not an old phone because the battery and reverse camera have both been upgraded here. This is probably the iPhone 4S and not the iPhone 5

iOS 5 does not require iTunes syncing to activate it, so the screen showing a dock connector cable pointing to the iTunes logo doesn't exist anymore. If this were a new iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 direct from the factory, it wouldn't have iOS 4 installed.

Ok first of all this is ******** because it would be running ios 5, since thats what would be released on it.

Second. APPLE HURRY THE **** UP AND RELEASE THE GODDAMN THING! I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE THE WWDC TO GET A NEW PHONE

Ever care to think that the iOS 5 recovery screen looks exactly the same? Or that this "assembled" unit could not even been flashed with any iOS build and is simply showing the default recovery prompt.

Sure there is reason, for an iPhone 4s to exist. How would the existence of an iPhone 5 preclude the existence of an iPhone 4s?

Because the A5 is more costly to produce, much bigger die area. If an iphone 5 with A5 exists, continue to produce the A4 and slap it in modified iPhone 4 shells and sell them. They still have a demand for A4 with AppleTV's being sold so it's not as if they're keeping a dead chip alive.

Again, iOS 5 has the same exact recovery screen as before. It does exist.

FAKE
It has to be(about to cry)
They easily look like parts from ifixit
The fact it's running an older version of iOS. Is a dead give away.
Apple would not load a old OS onto the phone, before shipping it as a "new" phone.

ios 4.3 is the latest stable version, not the "old" version.

When I said old,
I meant in terms of iOS5 and iOS4.
I would call iOS5 new, and anything before it old.

The fact that the phone is requesting connection via iTunes for activation means that the phone is running on ios4, since ios5 doesn't even require you to own a computer. Odd no?

Good point, but to be devil's advocate, perhaps they are loading iOS 4 until a GM candidate is ready for the phones?

Okay. How do you go about getting people OFF the scent of the iPhone 5, so that you can make a big splash at launch (and not just launch what everybody is expecting). You drip release false photos and parts. "Get them onto the iPhone 4S idea instead", the PR executive said. "That'll make them forget about the iPhone 5. Then when you actually turn around and launch it anyway? BAM! *applause*"

Anyone else things this seems a bit too suspect and a bit too convenient?

PS: Other options are: There is no iPhone 5; only a 4S. ....or... this is a faker/wannabe wanting to punk the Apple-community by releasing fake photos to see how far he can get..

I was thinking the exact same thing. You would figure it would be running one of the betas of iOS 5 if it is indeed the new iPhone.

for all those out there who think this is fake because it is running iOS 4, obviously don't know what they are talking about.

all this is showing is that the phone is in recovery mode, like it would be if it was partially assembled,

I can press some buttons on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 running iOS 5, and make that logo appear...

PS: I am not saying anything about this being light or not, but disproving it because you think its running iOS 4 is not intelligent

This can't be real

This HAS to be fake. Look at the proximity sensor -- It is the old-style grilled pattern (as opposed to the current black strip) that never made mass production.

I don't think the parts leaks are intentional on Apple's part, but I do think that the Apple marketing team has been leaking more info about the iPhone 4s to get us off the scent of the iPhone 5.

HOWEVER, the recent WSJ just confirmed the existence of both. I think primarily to keep hope alive for the Apple faithful wanting a newly designed device, but also to keep the calls for blood to a minimum when they have to announce that it will be delayed a bit and the iPhone 4s will be launched first.

Why announce before you're ready to launch? It's apple MO to announce and launch in like two weeks for iOS devices. Why change?

Bunch of suckers waiting and waiting. I'm looking forward to the LTE iPhone 5 next year :p

At least you're being realistic about the year. I pity those who expect LTE this year.

Because they have 2 products....one is ready to go and the other not. Why waste money holding on to one just because the other is delayed?

Haha I've had enough of this now .. I am not logging back here till after the apple site shows the new iPhone 5 ... Simples.

There is ZERO proof in that photo that this is something new. You cannot see the A5 anywhere in the photo on the hardware. It's just an iPhone 4 opened up. Possible an old prototype.

True, but this is MacRumors...not MacProof. We'll take any tidbit we can get and chew on it for days. :p
