Ok first of all this is ******** because it would be running ios 5, since thats what would be released on it.

Second. APPLE HURRY THE **** UP AND RELEASE THE GODDAMN THING! I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE THE WWDC TO GET A NEW PHONE

It can be running iOS 5, if I put my iOS 5 device in recovery mode, that's what I get.

Boring! give me iphone 5. 15+ months for a multi billion dollar company they should have a line of 10 iphones by now

Why?
They can sell as many of the current model they can make.
Apple are not like other companies churning out rubbish updates to devices every two weeks to try to stir up demand.
They have broken the mold of the past moblie phone industry, hence their success.

Exactly, people can't stay loyal under these circumstances. This is surely a lower end model shadowed by what will hopefully be a redesigned iPhone 5.

Stay loyal?
I'm glad they don't release a phone more than once a year, only mugs buy phones every few weeks.
iOS 5 will give all iPhone 4 users a new phone for free, that is progress.

I was thinking the exact same thing. You would figure it would be running one of the betas of iOS 5 if it is indeed the new iPhone.

Good point, but to be devil's advocate, perhaps they are loading iOS 4 until a GM candidate is ready for the phones?

Nope to both. Either way would be pointless, since they'd just have to flash the final iOS 5 onto all of them before they ship it. They're not going to put iOS 4, or an iOS 5 beta, on a device that will never use either one. If it's not going to leave the factory until it contains the final iOS 5, why waste time and resources loading something else onto it?

Edit: Furthermore, chances are it wouldn't even be capable of running iOS 4. Taking at the very least the improved camera as a given, it wouldn't have the necessary software to support it.

They still have a demand for A4 with AppleTV's being sold so it's not as if they're keeping a dead chip alive.

The AppleTV is over a year old now. I wouldn't be surprised if they updated it with an A5 and 1080p support alongside the new iPods.

iOS5 will be cool, but people that don't want to sit here and stare at the same effing phone for 2 years won't stay for ios5. there's a part of a lot of people that just want new things every 52 weeks...is that such a problem?

Wait, didnt they say they were field testing the iphone 5 internals inside iphone 4 shells to keep it secret? this could be a test unit

If they took a picture of the flash memory chip and figured out its capacity, we would actually know pretty quickly, if there is going to be a "real" iPhone 5.

Apple will most likely follow their pattern of releasing a lower end last gen model with 8-16 GB. If this thing has 32 or even 64GB, then this would probably mean that we won't get an iPhone 5. On the other hand, if it has 8GB, we can be quite sure that there will be a revamped model, since there is no iPhone 4 with that capacity.

But who knows..

So they're going to leave tens of thousands of devices untested until a GM candidate is ready, not knowing if they are good or bad? Sorry, but no.

We saw an iphone 4 last year with a debug software, so it's clear that they load something to test the phone. Why not a stable iOS 4 release?

That could be the case, but it only makes sense to get rid of A4 is they are stopping selling the iphone 4 all together. I doubt that's going to happen.

Because they have 2 products....one is ready to go and the other not. Why waste money holding on to one just because the other is delayed?

The announcement is for the big phone. Why bother announcing a revision of a phone people have already seen. You make the announcement when the big one is ready to go, just as they've done the past 3 announcements.

I have been waiting since I was upgrade-eligible in late February :(

In a perfect world, yes. But if something goes wrong, which does happen, you announce both, release the one that's ready and delay the one that's not.

I'm not buying the A5 in this phone, it doesn't look like the A4 that Apple put inside the iPhone, and certainly doesn't look like the A5 Apple put in the iPad.

It probably doesn't even run any usual iOS at this stage of manufacturing, there's probably only some basic boot image which single purpose is to be able to load final full OS image before phone is packed and shipped.
And no one ever loads beta versions of OS to factory units, it's silly even to think about it.

I think and I'm hoping that Apple is trying to thwart all these rumors by leaking these photos to throw people off a new redesign, meaning there will be a new design (I hope) and they want to keep it under wraps as much as possible.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/9A5313e)

It's in recovery mode. I'm not saying I think this is a legit "4s" but for all of the iOS 5 nay Sayers you can do this on any iPhone even with iOS 5.

But I doubt anyone cares much for the revised iPhone 4. Why not just wait for the new design that everyone wants? I don't see a justification for deviating for the previous method Apple has been using. If they did what you said, they could have announced in June, right on schedule.

From the looks of it, what you call "white" is a reflection effect stemming from the "white" (or in the other picture "black") area being smooth, while the surrounding area is rough. Difference in color is then merely attributed to the way light is reflected on said surface, sometimes making it look darker than its surrounding, and sometimes brighter.

Loyalty is something one conveys to a set of beliefs, a cause, a spouse, a friend, a leader, a nation, etc., through buoyant times as well as adverse out of principle or obligation. We are talking about a phone here. Buy what you like but don't be so righteous about it. Apple doesn't want your loyalty; it wants your money. If they don't make a product you like then just spend it elsewhere. It's no big deal and no need to make a big deal of it.
