I've never complained about the 3.5 inch screen, but seeing them next to each other here...I can appreciate the extra real estate. I'm glad they went 16:9 and will give us more content on the screen rather than just making the content bigger by keeping the 3:2.

I welcome this change. When I put my iphone into my back pocket, I have to dig fairly deeply to get it out. A bit longer phone should solve this problem. Also, appreciating that the headphone jack is now on bottom, for this reason as well. Puts thumb at home button without stretching the cord too badly. Awkward.

Stop wearing cargos you geed.

I can't believe it's only longer, looks very ugly!

There is an old saying about how you use something being more important than size. Hardware is great, but I believe most of the innovation we are going to see from here on out (at least until another major revolution in mobile miniaturization) will be software-related (I.E. Passbook, Maps, Siri).

This is shaping up to be a great looking phone. The screen-to-bezel ratio in the new iPhone makes the 4S look really odd now

RTP.

Have to say I haven't warmed to the look yet, it feels too familiar. As long as it performs like lightning though, I'll be happy.

Absolutely correct.

Ahh, Laputa always makes me cry *sniff*

And the phone looks fine. Everyone is clamouring for a bigger screen and i'd much prefer to have a phone that my thumb can comfortably reach the other side of for single handed operation - rather than the monster androids that are roaming the lands now.

Wish I could care about phones, period. I feel like I am missing out. I buy when mine breaks. Or I get it for free. Yes, I got all my iPhones for free.

"It won't be called 'iPhone 5'!!!!11111SHIFT+1"

I don't get why this is considered a dumb thing to point out. My post was straight up deleted so apparently that's taboo to mention here, but you'd think a site supposedly about "mac rumors" would know better...

Calling it "the next iPhone" or "the new iPhone" would just be too hard, I guess? It's asinine.

Not like any of the other comments here are any more insightful anyway.

I was against the tall iPhone. But seeing this has suddenly changed my views for some reason.

Strange how it looks the same width here, but other earlier photos of the bottom make it look a bit wider. Maybe this is just the front panel and the sides come out further?

EDIT: On closer inspection, the iPhone 5 here looks like a render in this pic. The home button is smaller than the one on the iPhone 4 to the left. So, unless they re-designed the home button to be smaller this generation, the 5 will be both taller and wider than it appears here.

I'm pretty sure their was a leak a while ago with a smaller home button. The reason was because the top and bottom bezels are smaller to keep the phone from looking too long.

The screen is around 1/2" taller, the phone itself is less than that.

Is it just me... or is the home button smaller on the "5"?

Other leaks have in fact shown that the new home button is slightly smaller than the current one. One site showed that the two home buttons are not interchangeable. Apple had to shrink the top and bottom margins to avoid the phone from getting too tall.

I for one can't wait to see this new device. I am tired of all my friends having much much faster LTE phones while I am stuck with the slow 4S "4G" device...

Personally if the next 5 iPhones looked exactly like the 4 and 4s but with better internals, I'd buy them. I really don't buy this arguement that Apple has to change the form ever, much less every two years

Now can people stop screaming bloody murder at the long iphone? It's not out of proportion.

It *is* out of proportion. The aspect ratios are clearly different. It would be noticeably wider if the proportions were the same.

And I agree with the "ugly" camp. It's too tall.

really hope this is a Fakeout on purpose

taller?! Not wider wtf
