I don't get why this is considered a dumb thing to point out. My post was straight up deleted so apparently that's taboo to mention here, but you'd think a site supposedly about "mac rumors" would know better...

Calling it "the next iPhone" or "the new iPhone" would just be too hard, I guess? It's asinine.

Not like any of the other comments here are any more insightful anyway.

I agree. Also, there is another reason it won't be called "iPhone 5" aside from the fact that Apple seems to be moving away from the version number being in the name. It won't be called "iPhone 5" because it's the SIXTH generation iPhone. Therefore, even if they keep the version number in the name it'll be "iPhone 6". I can't believe how many people forget this.

I haven't seen any leaks regarding the camera this time around. I wonder what kind of improvements we'll see there. I would love if the camera on the iPhone was good enough to not have to carry around my canon point-and-shoot... someday.

I'm also hoping they do something cool with the nano. They should go more towards the wearable, connected device. I'm using one as a watch now and would love to have Bluetooth connectivity with iPhone for alerts etc.

:cool::apple:

The taller shape is actually a more comfortable shape for a phone, IMO. Phones were traditionally tall and narrow, and flip phones seemed "natural" when talking into them for this reason, I think, given where one's mouth and ear reside, and the size of one's hand.

It seems to be a more suitable shape for a phone than the current iPhone (as much as I love it) and the wider Android phones, to me.

I would absolutely stop using a point-and-shoot altogether if the iPhone were to somehow get an optical zoom. If that were to happen, I would be very happy with a DSLR for serious photography and the iPhone for everything else.

I want a bigger screen, not a longer screen.

Well this is a bigger screen, and a longer screen. I am guessing you mean you want a bigger screen that is taller and wider.

There's a conflict here.....

Is the "new iPhone" allegedly WIDER or NARROWER than the 4/4S?

The pictures from this article make it look narrower. (http://www.sinocet.com/The-new-iPhone-5-front-panel-part)

The picture from earlier this week (https://www.macrumors.com/2012/08/28/scosche-already-designing-new-dock-connector-accessories/) shows it WIDER.

...and I don't think the difference is due to the bezel/unibody.. it seems too great.

So, ONE of these is definitely wrong!!!

I think the second photo is an example of forced perspective. The phone on the bottom appears wider because it's actually closer to the camera than the phone on top.

This - and put NFC in there too.

By that logic Mac OS should be on version 3,000 something. Who said each generation HAS to have the version number changed. If anything, the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4S should have been named iPhone 3.1 and iPhone 4.1, respectively.

yay, after all this time we get a phone that's just a little taller and the same width as before.

Come one apple make a wider phone. I think the iphone is just a little to narrow and wish they would have kept the same AR

Owning a domain doesn't necessarily make a product name a foregone conclusion, but the "6" to me seems unlikely.

Draw whatever conclusions you want. I'm just making an observation ;)

if this is how they made the phone larger, i won't be in a rush to get it. i'm content with the size and speed of the 4s.

this is just regurgitation of things we´ve seen 100 times. Were are the iMac news . .it´s hardly never mentioned :( and it is over due like crazy.

Personally I'm looking for a circular iPhone 5....that would be a big design change right???

Please...all this nonsense about radically changing the design of arguably the most popular smartphones (the 4/4S) is laughable. Give me consistent spec bumps and polished new features and I will continue to upgrade every 2 years.

Plus, who's to say the "design" isn't different? If you look at each iPhone and take ONLY the screen away from the casing, they are all pretty similar. If the casing were liquid metal/unibody would that be enough of a change for you?

I think I know the answer to that...

My prediction: New iphone called "The new iphone" and during the presentation, discussion about the new dock connector and relocated headphone jack meet lukewarm reception.

So when people record video or take pictures with this thing in portrait mode they're going to look even more stretched than they do now??

It remains to be seen how the camera app will be handled on the taller screen. I personally doubt apple will change from the 4:3 aspect ratio on photos and video will keep standard 1080p resolution.

Ugh!

Same phone...but longer. Good news I guess for those looking forward to that extra row of icons.

If this is indeed it, and I'm not yet convinced that it is, then I'd be lying if I said I wasn't just slightly disappointed in Ive and company for what I think is a lacklustre design effort...especially since this has been a two year project.

BTW, since they are apparently going with these awkward new dimensions, I know I for one would prefer the existing number of icons with a little more spacing. IMO another row would just make it look too cluttered.

I agree that it's better for the phone calls to have it be taller, but it's awkward and a little ugly to have it be too tall.
