When you simply can't innovate, just make it longer.

zzz = $$$

...doesn't help to sue a few people as well.

You can't. It seems people don't know how to carry the iPhone in a pocket so they had to move the headphone connector - and in the process making the bottom look like a giant mess.

Clearly it makes more sense to have to invert the phone to make sure it's facing up every time you put it in your pocket. /s

Headphone jack on the bottom is the logical placement. The iPod touch had it right.

I can pretty much guarantee in a year all the people complaining it looks tall and out of proportion will be saying OMG how did we use the 4s its so stumpy and short!

Exactly. iPhone design is becoming more like Apple's computer design –– smaller refinements over time. The MBP and iMac have essentially remained the same for the past 4/5 years. I think the iPhone will see only smaller refinements for a similar length of time. Radical redesigns will only happen when new technology becomes available (i.e unibody tech in 2008 MBPs.)

You won't be able to. The dock connector only has 9 pins, suggesting that the A/V is gone new docks will have to use the headphone jack for audio.

You can bet your ast dollar that apple hasnt taken a/v out. Will prob only be digital as apposed to last dock tho.

No doubt that much like the iPhone 4 leaks where folks were saying it was ugly etc; seeing various leaks of parts doesn't give us the true view of the phone. When it's launched we'll all realise that it looks much better than we've anticipated.

There's a conflict here.....

Is the "new iPhone" allegedly WIDER or NARROWER than the 4/4S?

The pictures from this article make it look narrower. (http://www.sinocet.com/The-new-iPhone-5-front-panel-part)

The picture from earlier this week (https://www.macrumors.com/2012/08/28/scosche-already-designing-new-dock-connector-accessories/) shows it WIDER.

...and I don't think the difference is due to the bezel/unibody.. it seems too great.

So, ONE of these is definitely wrong!!!

Neither are wrong, the bottom picture the phones are not lined up so it is giving the impression that it is wider.

This is great. I was hoping they'd reduce the wasted space to make up for at least some of the increase. The current iPhone size is great, but a little more screen space in the same physical space would be great.

I've never complained about the 3.5 inch screen, but seeing them next to each other here...I can appreciate the extra real estate. I'm glad they went 16:9 and will give us more content on the screen rather than just making the content bigger by keeping the 3:2.

Except we'll get less content in landscape orientation. Fine for 16:9 video - as we all spend our days watching movies on the phone? But think about it, stretch a web page horizontally to fit and you'll lose vertical visible area. So it's only really useful for slightly more of your friends' inane Facebook comments showing... Should be wider too.

Jesus the top and bottom bezel on the older iphones looks huge now. I still think the phone could of fit in the same size if the made the bezel even smaller and it would look better. Its not as bad tho as my first impression. Lets hope the A15 cpu comes out.

omg its too tall it's so ugly!

/sarcasm

It's not too tall but it is a little uglier. The original design had nice proportions (golden ratio?) between the size of the button and the "padding" around it (same thing with the upper part of the bezel). Now it all looks very "cramped". So, while all the elements were preserved, the overall impression is totally different and it's not as good. This might not be as bad though. This "form over function" philosophy should die. It looks like (if AnandTech analysis is correct) it reared its ugly head once again when NFC (function) was junked in favor of "unibody" and aluminum (form).

I can't believe you ppl don't see this is a fake?

sinocet.com makes fake iPhone panels. It wouldn't cost them much money to stamp a fake one out.

This set of fotos and videos weren't made by someone in the iPhone factory. They would've had to smuggle one out, so that they can make a camera mounted, light box lit, fotos and video they've posted.

And why are there two black punched holes in the back of the LCD?

Here's hoping that they also release a new iPod touch with that taller display because I'm not signing a 3-years contract with any cellphone provider especially with the insane monthly fees they're asking for the small amount of data they're offering.

Still not understanding why they needed to break from the aspect ratio. More laborious to code another AR.

i dont understand why Apple should worry about the app developers if they want to "innovate" something ... isnt it their freakin job to code etc. ???

other people have to adjust daily, and i dont see them complain much

They should have made it an inch taller and an inch wider so we could all struggle to get it in and out of our pockets like most other retarded looking smartphones. If you have ever seen someone using the really big, bulky smartphones, holding them to their ear, you know how unbelievably stupid they look.
