I have my nexus S with NFC for quite a while. Wanna know how often I used NFC ?

Twice.

Once because I put it on my wallet and it recognized a student ID card in it (beeping)

Second time with an app to see if I could broadcast the signal from that student ID.

I seriously dont care about NFC, and I'd wager 95% or more would agree with this.

If Apple included NFC all we would hear on this site is how awesome that is..blah blah blah.

sheep mentality is so predictable

The people who say that they don't care about NFC are the same people who used to say they din't care about 3G when the original iPhone got released. I know who you are. "If Apple doesn't think is important, I don't think it's important either".

And please don't reply saying that I am wrong and you're not one of them. You would buy any iCrap as long as it had the Apple logo on it.

It doesn't take a genius to understand that Apple is looking for reasons to release a model a year. Add an NFC chip and there you go, a year later you got iPhone 5s and a crowd of idiots making Apple a few billion dollars richer.

No, I just don't care. It's not accepted almost everywhere I go. There is no point for me

No NFC is a positive for me as it is one less thing to drain the battery even quicker.

I've had NFC on one of my credit cards for over a year now and have used it exactly never...

I was disappointed about the lack of NFC, but then reading your post made me think, 'Oh yeah, I've got it, known about it since recieving my card and haven't ever used it either'

Bluetooth is a standard, why would you even begin to believe that's the case? Bluetooth 4.0 is actually available to the apps itself in the 4S and iPad.

Hello again,
Well i believe you know how was always possible in all other OS devices(from the time of symbian to today's android) to exchange files, songs, photo's etc. via bluetooth but with iphone bluetooth was locked preventing you from doing that, are you telling me that this is going to change with iOS6?

The Galaxy S3 has NFC... but it's most useful feature... Google Wallet is blocked by most carriers in the US. You have to run a hack to get it working.

Using a hack to get something to work that may impact my wallet (not just my Google wallet) is not something I feel good about at all.
:)

but youre quite plainly wrong.

...uh, says you. i buy tools that are well crafted and serve the job to be done. thats the definition of value for me. i didnt buy a mac until they switched to intel because i couldnt do my job on them until then, making it an impractical tool. so there goes your whole theory...oops.

It doesn't take a genius to understand that Apple is looking for reasons to release a model a year.

riiight, because apple needs an obscure payment tech to sell next year's phone. because people wont simply be interested in buying the latest, fastest, biggest, best phone apple puts out.

newsflash -- apple doesnt design phones for phone-geeks that buy annually. instead they make the best phone they can every year, just like an auto maker or laptop maker, and whoever is eligible or wants to buy it will decide to do so. with 7 or 8 billion people on the planet, it works out -- because not everyone is on the same schedule as you.

crazy, i know.

While I don't care about it either, as others point out, it's common outside of the USA. By not adopting new technologies, the iPhone begins to seriously lag behind other phones and this will cause it to lose market share. Let it go on long enough and it becomes a problem.

To many people, using an iPhone is about esteem. As other phones gain capabilities through software and hardware improvements, the iPhone looses esteem when it fails to match up.
Apple will always sell millions of iPhones, but they are rapidly becoming less special. This is just one more, albeit small, step they easily could have taken.
Does this new iPhone offer improvements over the old one - sure. But they're nothing special.

If I wasn't so connected through the iOS ecosystem, I'd be taking a serious look at the SIII. Why won't Apple make a more feature packed phone? And what the hell, while I'm at it, why couldn't they update the physical design, too?

I'm an Apple user since '87, but I'm starting to think outside their box.

EDIT: for myself, I'm still using a 3GS. I'd like to upgrade but don't see anything in this iPhone to make it worth the cost.

It's been "rumored" that talks stalled between M.C. and Visa due to Apple's demands of a percentage of sales from NFC use.

----------

Perhaps because Apple is placing demands on credit companies that may be squelching technological advancements which benefit the consumer, while other first world nations have been implementing NFC systems for years? No, couldn't be the case. ;)

Or do you think it's more likely that the Point of Sale terminals that most merchants have need to be replaced to accept the form of payment. And most merchants and banks don't want to invest in it yet.

It takes quite a stretch to think that adoption of NFC in the US is lagging because of Apple.

Google Wallet uses NFC and is available on some devices, but will be available on more this year. It works best on the Galaxy Nexus.

I've been using it regularly at McDonalds, CVS Pharmacy, and a few other places. Best is to get a pre-paid fixed limit credit card and enter it in to Google Wallet to keep your risk low.

That's a great idea!

Oh, I don't think they're looking for a reason, they'd just do what they want anyway. 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5...

I'm pretty sure Apple will pull out some "wow-thing" during the keynote... Apple has more money than all other companies combined. Why should they present an inferior smartphone than anyone else (including struggling companies that are just delivering blind bet all-in gadgets these days)?

If screen is 4"... I'm pretty sure the phone will have several tricks to compensate having the worst display in the market...

With my luck I wouldn't carry my credit card anymore and my phone would be dead when I need to make a purchase ;)

Wait!

Remember last keynote? Everyone was a little bit disappointed by the subpar update rumors on macbook line... and nobody figured out a 15" macbook pro Retina..

The same company CAN'T be failing so much with all those unexciting parts leaked...

This has to be the new budget iPhone 4ST everyone is mentioning! not the new iphone5!!

C'mon! even amazon is pulling out spectacular new products right now in the event in Santa Monica...

You can use the NFC chip for other things not just as a method of payment.

You get NFC tags which are like little square stickers and you program the phone to do something when its in range.

e.g NFC tag in your car which when in range turns on the phone bluetooth and loads up software like navigation or music

Yes. Much like it's way too inconvenient to pull out my camera when i want to take a photo, or my walkman when I want to listen to some music, or my satnav when I need navigation or... are you getting the idea about how this device has revolutionised so much of what we've had to carry around with us in the past?

Need I go on? Except to say, 6 places? Where you live maybe in Dickstick USA, but rather more in the rest of the world.

Bad examples. To say "no NFC...not buying" sounds crazy to me. You mean to tell me that the make or break feature is NFC? It'd be a nice addition, but not something I'd base my buying decision on. You're giving up everything else that is great about an iPhone for a feature, that at this point, is novel at best. Switching over to Android just for NFC capabilities is, to me anyway, rediculous.

And for the record I'm from Philly. And I use sarcasm once in a while.

Bad examples why?

And for the record, I've stated elsewhere that I will be buying because although I'm disappointed about NFC, the phone will be a nice upgrade from my 3G and I still think it will be a nice bit of kit.

I'd love if apple incorporated NFC. But i understand if they dont. Apple never rushes to be the first to jump on technology like this. But when they do, it'll be right, and it will be useful. Right now it's just something that would be a cool addition. And that's pretty much it. Once it's starts gaining traction, then it'll be a different story.

Nope you are right apple never was and never will be a company that jumps first in new technology, but it is the first company to jump off the ship when it's about removing a technology,i wonder why:rolleyes: .

Because the examples you listed were features you use every single day. NFC is not in that same category.
